914World.com _ 914World Garage _ four to five lug wheel adaptors

Posted by: dr914@autoatlanta.com Sep 21 2022, 11:19 AM

does anyone think that there would be interest in four to five lug billet aluminum wheel adaptors? Would enable mounting of the 55 offset later 7.5 wheels to stock 914 fendered cars as well as 7 inch 23mm offset five lug wheels to 914-6 GT flared cars
The ones that empi sells are cast and do not fit at all!!

Gosh I sure would think so if they were inexpensive enough. Way cheaper to do that and then some alfa calipers and you have a cheap 5 bolt setup with good brakes.

Usually frowned upon. Sometimes dangerous.

I’d be curious. Hard to find good tires anymore for the stock 15” rims.

My car has had them for 40 years. I race on them. Done well, they are perfectly fine.

Been part of the off road world for a very log time. I have heard of some cheaper versions getting loose and causing trouble, but if you check them like you should and torque to specs, you should be fine. A good alloy, proper hardware and support from the company and you should be ok.

I wouldn't be interested because it is not the way to do things right. dry.gif

But, if you venture in this, I would seriously do some FEA on those rings and also some dynamic studies on the unbalanced lug setup you are creating in doing so. Close to rotation axis maybe, but still might influence balancing.

I was actually thinking of making them so that one could now bolt on 7.5 boxster 996 wheels under the stock fender wells with 205/...x... tires depending on the rim size

Posted by: dr914@autoatlanta.com Sep 23 2022, 11:14 AM

also what would you pay for four of them?

Posted by: raw1298 Sep 23 2022, 03:53 PM

Are you thinking 2-3 inches spacing?

Rear wheel adaptors, factory on 993 Carrera S wide bodies. Never a problem. MarkAttached Image

I put 5 lug to 5 lug adapters on the Chevy.

Market is ~ $100 a set without the Porsche tax. Nuts sold separately.

ps. stock Boxster is 7" fronts. 7.5" is not that common.

I would be interested if the quality is there. My former 996 C4S had rear wheel spacers from the factory.

set of two or set of four?

Why would you want to introduce a product that already exists but is universally frowned-upon?

Spacers aren't the same thing as adapters that change bolt patterns and multiply bolts. The latter isn't a good idea.

Exactly! Spacers are allowed on the track. Adaptors are not.

because there is a firm here in atlanta that makes high quality wheel adaptors and wants to make something for us..

Empi makes a set that is not drilled correctly and are cast aluminum

these are 25mm so let owners to cheaply bolt on five lug wheels to their cars
