Running the engine last night just to heat cycle it, run some gas through the carbs, and just generally because I like hearing it run and I noticed my coil had departed its mounting location and was resting on the fan/pully. So, it is damaged and needs to be replaced. Note that I mount the coil to the fan shroud (as in a bus) as I am using the "normal" mounting location for a throttle cable bracket.
I have been running the Bosch "blue" coil for years on this car, and for decades previously on a 1976 Bus that was slightly built. Never had an issue. But I think I have read here, and on The Samba that some folks have disdain for the Bosch Blue coil?
Anywho, wondering what the group thinks about a replacement? Back to the Blue?
Nothing wrong with Blue coil. Black OEM coils were made in Germany. Bosch then transferred production to Spain and made them in blue. Production then moved to Brazil in the final stages.
sand and paint it black and add a factory sticker
