I’m in!! Do I need a passport for the Nevada Side?
Thanks for sorting the next WCR venue guys. Turns out all venues under consideration were all 7 hours drive away...?
This is the last time I drove up there with a buddy (I think he's driving some sort of older British vehicle):
We drove from the Bay Area and stayed near Squaw Valley resort. Both cars shifted in idle at altitude - one went up, one down in RPM, but for the life of me I can't remember which did which. Possibly a difference between 2" SUs on the E-type and the 40TIN Zenith designs. Anyway, a tweak of both idle RPM adjusts fixed things. Some great driving roads around in the summer and some spectacular scenery.
See y'all there...

I love Tahoe any time of the year. I’m in +1
So happy for the Lake Tahoe choice! In + 1
I'll miss you guys!! Ill be in Maui...

Now to head out to the garage and get the car prepped
Dang that's my son's birthday weekend... maybe I will bring him
Ok after doing the RRC and absolutely loving it I got to do this one.Count the 2 Canadians in!!
I’m in plus 1
I'm in!
It's on our calendar! 2 more for Tahoe!!
I'm in plus possibly one more...depends on how my passengers seat feels to the concerned butts.
Mike and Donna will there.
Darn, we will be in Barcelona for the F1 race (and to celebrate Nancy's birthday). Have fun -- we lived in Tahoe City for five years in the early aughts and would have enjoyed another WCR there.
Grandson is getting married that weekend in Santa Cruz so I cant make it. We havent been to Tahoe for a few years so that would have been fun.
We are really looking forward to this event.
Got it on my calendar.
In the background, working on T-shirt design. For now, enjoy this Tahoe winter shot!

I plan to be there
I need help. I noticed some crunchy sounds and twinges of pain in my left ankle a couple weeks back and I went to see my VA doc. One MRI later and I’m told I need surgery to repair a repair that was done after a hard landing in Iraq. I’m told to stay off my foot and to wear a fancy boot. After surgery, I’ll be in a cast for 3-4 months.
Bottom line, I will not be able to plan and execute, and probably not even attend the event.
Anyone willing to step up? I have the two drives planned. One around the lake, the other follows the UC Davis Bike Clubs “Death Ride” route. The T-Shirt design is pretty much finalized.
Anyone?

What’s the latest re acomdations ?
We hope to be there.
2 people in 2 914's
Also curious about accommodations.
Working on acomidations now. Should have details in a day or two. Just waiting to hear what they can do for us. Harvey’s has a concert on the 4th, but shouldn’t interfere with what we got planned. Also have one other quote going, so we can weigh the 2 against each other.
So far this is what I have -
Harveys Lake Tahoe
LAKE TOWER – Remodeled in 2020
Room Rates
$79 Th
$219 Fr
$259 Sa
With other fees and taxes
Bally's
Thurs: (6/1) – 1 King Bed: $59.00
2 Queen Beds: $79.00
Fri: (6/2) – 1 King Bed: $139.00
2 Queen Beds: $159.00
Sat : (6/3) – 1 King Bed: $199.00
2 Queen Beds: $219.00
+15 a night parking
Need a few other options, so still looking
Are accommodations easier/cheaper south lake vs north lake?
Not necessarily.
The area that time of year is busy. Compare the quotes so far to motel 6 and it's $357 for all 3 nights. The difference is that Harvey's will waive parking if under contract by the 5th. Still looking, but will put this to bed soon.
Ok Got this sorted out. We will be staying at the old Montbleu Now Bally's. I was looking around and for the $, unless we stay really low end they are about the same.
I was able to put this together through Priceline and they don't charge a $15 a day fee to park. The other prices are a little more, but it's a wash. It will also allow everyone to book directly and not have to worry about applying a discount.
You can make your reservations here -
https://groupdeals.priceline.com/eh/4b005-1539
If you are coming down on Thursday (like I am) you can change the date in the check in box and hit update to get the rate for that night too.
I would advise booking this early rather than later as I suspect it will fill up.
Note the cancellation penalty of one night before 5/25 at the cheapest rate, so for a few $ maybe pay that??
I think this will offer the best bang for the $

College has had me pretty busy these last few months, and I haven't been able to keep up to date on The World. The 914 is sleeping soundly back home for now. Last WCR was a blast but looks like this one is the weekend before finals so I'll have to sit this one out. Look forward to the pictures though!
OK, booked at Bally's Lake Tahoe for the evening of 6/2 and 6/3.
We'll be on a road trip to Montana, but have a great time and we'll see everyone at the Rennsport Reunion in Monterey this Sept.
Reservations booked at Bally's Lake Tahoe. sign up 2 and 1 914.
I don’t want to create undo worry, the roads are usually dry in June, it is likely though that at least some of the larger ski resorts will be open. Historically, the longest I recall is the 4th of July. We have something like 200% plus of our normal snow pack at this time and it is still snowing.
Bottom line, contact 914Rubber.com and get a reproduction ski rack! Add skiing to the list of optional activities.
Just so you know what the neighborhood is looking like up here…
Attached image(s)
Brisk winds up top. VERY brisk.
If the snow is too much and roads aren't open we may have to move some activities to the valley, but I have a few ideas.
We will be joining the fun - drive up to Tahoe sounds like fun time.
Haven't had the 914 out on any long drives for a long while. look forward to seeing everyone there.
Hello -
We've booked our room, two total. Judy & Don Bogart
We had a great time at the 2021 WCR. We know this one will be great too!
Cheers!

Just an update on the snow at lake level. 54’ not kidding…
Every little thing gonna be alright…
Attached image(s)
I don't think that will be the drive we are on. WOW
The game plan is to do a south valley drive if the hills are still packed....for those that are wondering.
This is an actual house in Incline Village! We are now over 55’ and approaching the record for the second highest snowfall total since records were kept. The weather has been warming and this will melt but, again, the ski resorts will likely still be open. The roads are open and dry mostly. This will likely be the most beautiful scene. Snow, blue water, bright sunshine. I can’t wait!
Attached image(s)
Working out the details for the dinner and have shirts finalized. Will be posting up info this next week.
As I said, the ski resorts may still be open for you guys who ski. Heavenly if you’re not familiar, is the one that looks straight down at the lake from its summit. The resorts don’t get too aggressive about extending the season. This is a three week extension. The problem is, their staff is seasonal and they have to make sure that they have enough staying on to run the resort.
Attached thumbnail(s)
Is there a schedule yet? Grandson's bday that weekend so trying to see when we can get up there to join in, luckily only a 2 hour drive
We have secured a site for the show and shine. It is looking like many events will be on the valley floor. As I said, the ski resorts may be open, three announced a three week extension of the their season. One announced they will extend to the 4th of July today.

This is a friend’s house. Taken this week.

What about a boat ride on the lake? I have entirely randomly discovered a 914 guy among my Facebook friends who lives at the lake. He is a boat captain and his job involves excursions. He owns a sailboat called the Pirate but we suspect it will not be big enough for everyone.
I discovered he was a 914 guy when he posted a picture of a rear deck lid he was glassing a spoiler on. WTF! I’ve known him for a year and I didn’t know he had a V8 914 ratrod!
Anyway, if you’re interested, let me know.
Attached thumbnail(s)
Any idea on the schedule yet? Mainly curious whats happening Thursday or Thursday night? I might drive up Friday morning from Shingle Springs if nothing is happening Thursday.
Dinner reservations have been made! Saturday Night 6pm…
..
Yes, will be posting up a registration tomorrow. We need to have a count for the restaurant to hold space open for us. T-shirts going to press shortly! Pics to follow.
We can only come up for the day, most likely Saturday - can we purchase a shirt and join in with a little fun?
Got the shirt design done. Getting listed up and registration put together now.
Doing Rt66 , so Blake is working hard to get this put together now.

If you notice the exhaust smoke, you’ll recognize that my car was the model for the T-shirt!
Hello everyone! The registration link is live now at https://914rubber.com/2023-west-coast-ramble-event-registration-and-shirt
We have set this listing up to not charge for shipping as the shirts will be ready for pickup at the event. Please register as soon as you can so we can make there will be enough shirts in the right sizes for everyone.

It was indeed. V8 car. Probably Beech Boys Racing? He traded it a few weeks later for a nice vintage Mercedes. He lives 17 miles away from me.
Here he is actually driving it…

Very cool!! Thanks Rob!!

How are all the roads you would want use on over the weekend. Clearing up every day?
Nice shot of your car in the snow by the way!
Just a heads up, If you register after April 30th we can no guarantee you will get a shirt.
We need 4 weeks so we can have them a week before to take with us. This allows for the shipping to us to process and will not require rushing anything to help keep the cost down. I will notate this in the title block.
Also if you are not attending and want a shirt we are processing that on the the 30th also so sign up here -
http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=364790
Put in what you want to get on the thread we will contact you to process them.
Hopefully I will be there!

I'm new to this event, will there be a car show at all if so where at in SLT?
Also just an FYI Gardnerville/Minden also known as The Carson Valley is about 30 minutes away via Kingsbury Grade (really fun drive) as an alternative to expensive Tahoe accommodations...I live in Gardnerville.
I talked with my friend that lives in Incline Village who gets around the lake more than I do today. He says the roads are clear of snow with towers of snow on the edges in some places. It’s melting fast, but there are “rivers of melt water” crossing the roads in some spots. Our biggest concern up at the lake are “potholes” big enough that the county has an inclusion on their website to reimburse the damage they may cause!
For this reason, we will likely spend time in the valley below the lake…
Baja, I was thinking a drive down through Markleville to Gardnerville and back up through Washoe Valley. You don’t know the condition of that road do you?
@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=16969
The car show is a show and shine at Summit Racings West lot were the motorcyle safety course is run in the summer. It will be Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
Bummed but my wife and I need to back out; too much going on with our oldest graduating high school the week prior.
Tahoe is such an amazing area - have fun and avoid those big cones!
Josh
Mike and Donna are registered.
Isn't Summit racing in Sparks?
I can check on Monday to see where it's at. If you were not able to register and will not make it, no problem. If you do want a Shirt still, you can just put it on the shirt thread and we will catch up at the end of the month.
I'll follow up with you Monday. PM your number.
Thanks,
Mark
Registered twice! For my wife and I .
Hopefully it worked.
Gonna have to pass on this WCR
Passing on the WCR this year
I’ve used Uber for RT 66 from PSP and to SAN. Dependable and easy. You can even arrange in advance some places.
I am desperately trying to make it. The engine went in 2 weeks ago and the rest of everything seems to falling in line. I have been working all weekend long every weekend and about 4 hours a day during the week to get everything done. I started with essentially a parts car 2.5+ years ago. Since then driving the car to my cabin (Modesto to Tahoe) has been my goal coincidentally right near the main meetup.
I have a cabin on Kingsbury grade right near the hotel, do I have to register still?
Does anyone want to come over and lend me a hand?
You do not have to register to attend, however the registration covers a $25 dinner credit and a t shirt.
To be elligible to win anything at the raffle you do need to be registered.
Registration secures seating for the dinner. We may not have enough room for unregistered at the dinner.
So do you have to to join up with us, no.
The real cut off is April 30th as mentioned on the thread for the t-shirts.
So on Sunday Mary and I took the 914 for a drive and it stranded us, had to get towed home.
So today I booked a hotel room and registered my wife and I for WCR 2023.
I guess I have to fix my car.
Jim
Great that you found out before the event. I will have an extra tow bar. Hopefully no one will need it.
Registered
FYI I just heard from a good friend that went over the hwy 88 pass from Jackson to Carson Valley its "pothole" city, really bad road conditions due to our winter from hell. Traveling to Tahoe you may considerer using hwy 50 if coming from this part of Calif.
Coming down to last call for the shirts
So…. As we registered through the website to keep track of credits and shirts, I only have names, not user names. So the only list I could publish is the actual names. I’m not real comfortable publishing actual names as I’m sure a few folks may not want me to do so.
So if all that registered want to sound off, that’s fine.
I can say we have 28 registered participants. Look like a good turn out, and Rob is working on another tie in that could be cool.

I wanted to bring the 914-8, but it needs too much work for such a long drive. Maybe next time. This blue car with the 3.2 six and 915 gear box is such a pleasure for long drives.
I’m a little late but I just got a room across the street! I’m bringing my 996 since the 914 is under the knife.
3 weeks!
Anyone yet set up a departure time from So Cal for a caravan
up 395?
Hi 914 buds,
My buddy Mark Sonners and I are registered and flying up Friday and getting a rent a car in Reno. Looking for some passenger seat time in a 914 if it can be had. Shoulder still not working so we will not be in my 6 and Marks RAT eng 914 that is at PMB is not ready.
See you all soon,
Bob B
Man I'd love to drive the 914 up from Vegas, but that probably wouldn't fly with the wife. Her idea of roughing it is a hotel room without a hair blow dryer (LOL). So I guess I'll be one of the few towing up.
Not making it this time...my wife and I are in Sedona for a little enlightenment plus it gives me more time to get my car ready for next year. Have a great time!
Hello guys,
Looking for any more information on the actual event schedule itself? We are signed up, but does anyone have a schedule, hell even an idea about what and when we'll be doing things? We're coming up from the Bay Area and trying to decide what nights we need to be up there.
Drives? Events? What do we know team? I seem to be missing a link or something.
See you in South Shore in three weeks, somewhere, sometime!
Well there are 2 drives that will meet at 9:14 (Friday and Saturday).
There is also a dinner Saturday evening.
If you want to to assure spa e at the dinner you can register, it will also offer a $25 dinner credit at the food venue. We will offer up space as available for those that would like to join. We did make a few extra T-shirts, so of we have the size you want it would include the shirt.
There will be a raffle for prises given away, but only registered participants will get tickets.
The actual detail of the drives are still being finalized due to the winter weather and road conditions. However, if you show up at the hotel parking lot the details will be fully divulged at the drivers meetings.
I can use a seat as well .
The critical element of drive one, Friday is Kingsbury Grade. It goes from just east of the hotel to the garderville minden area. The concern is potholes and snow and water on the roadway. Once we arrive in the gardnerville minden area, we come back north to the south side of Carson City and then up 50 to the hotel. I’m confident that the valley floor is as safe as usual as I still teach at a hospital in Carson once a week so I drive it regularly.
Saturday, we will leave the hotel and head east on 50 down to the valley floor. We stay on 50 through the southern part of Carson City then turn north toward Virginia City. Virginia City is an old mining town with hardly anywhere to park so we’ll pass right through and take the Geiger Grade down to the Damonte Ranch area in South Reno. We’ll then take Veterans Parkway North to Summit Racing retail store in Sparks. This is where we will have our “Bugs on the Bumper Show and Shine.”
After the S&S, we jump on 80 West and heard up to Truckee and back around the Northeast to Southeast side of the lake. The host hotel is on the southeast side of the lake. Then, off to dinner.
You will need a full tank of gas. Don’t make us rescue you.
Attached image(s)
Cars fine. My wife and I are going to explore around for a few more days and just don’t won’t to take it .
Booked a room in a nearby hotel, also taking the 996 since the 914 is under the knife... Looking forward to this!
Just a little insight in to why it’s so hard to tell you when and where the drives will be. We are currently, two weeks plus from June and we are at 300% of normal snow pack for the year.
Attached thumbnail(s)
Thank you for your service!! My wife was up in Mammoth a month ago and got two flat tires in her 4 Runner. The snow markers were buried in the snow and they sliced her tires. It's a mess!! Thanks for looking out for us.
Hi All,
A bit late to the party, but now coming!
Was able to get the car sufficiently "sorted" yesterday with the help of a German neighbor I just met who "happens" to be a retired air-cooled Porsche mechanic.
I have an offer for anyone making the 9 hour drive from So Cal, We have a nicely appointed guesthouse free for your use. We're just north of Madera 5 minutes off Hwy 99 exactly half way to Tahoe.
Cathy's not "too keen" on even the 4 1/2 hours from here to Tahoe in the Creamsicle, so she's driving her CRV. That said, if another spouse is of similar mind, riding with her is available too.
Blessings,
Jerry & Cathy Magnuson
We can't wait to see everyone again.
Driving to WCR this year
O
My wife and I are caravaning up with Franz & Joyce (drem914), and Jerry & Francine
Does anyone else care to join caravan??? Departing early Thur
8 days
I drove the Saturday drive route today in my truck. We keep getting asked about the drives but the problem is, we can simply pick a route on a map, but have no way of knowing what the road conditions are like without having eyes and tires on the road.
Here’s what I found:
There are more potholes than usual, but less than I expected.
There is melt water on the roadway in places, but less than I expected.
We are having ‘unsettled’ weather later this year, I encountered rain both up and down the mountain. I would expect conditions to be the same next week. The weather in Tahoe doesn’t care what the calendar says.
You should probably plan on a jacket of some sort and maybe gloves. The ambient temperature was 60 degrees or so. That temperature dropped 20 degrees as I ascended to 8900’ above sea level. (Yes, that is on our route.) I would put the targa on…
I will drive the Friday route tomorrow and update this then.
Well, it’s a good thing I test drove the route. One of the roads on our Friday drive is under water forcing a detour that takes miles and two small cities off that drive.
But, we have a plan. Curiously, the roads are in better condition for this drive! Almost no potholio’s!
See you all next week!
Thanks for for-running the route. See you Friday.
I had the food truck back out for the Summit Racing Show and Shine for Saturday. But in a save, I managed to get a taco truck that does food truck Friday, a weekly event here that draws thousands of people here. I’ve never eaten his stuff. So, if you don’t like authentic Mexican Taco truck fare, plan to bring your lunch…
Left early to visit relatives in Shingle Springs. Half way there at Harris Ranch Barbecue express
Just bumping to see if anyone else wants to joint up for the drive up to Tahoe this week?
Anyone know where dinner is ?
I'm heading out from Flagstaff this afternoon, headed for Death Valley tonight. Tomorrow, I'll drive up 395 to Cabellas in Reno. I'll be at the hotel early in the day on Thursday.
Just to confirm - the hotel is now called Bally's Lake Tahoe - right? I don't have a room since my Sprinter is my home on wheels. I'm happy to help with anything on Thursday to get things ready. Just let me know.
Anyone want to meet up for dinner Thursday night?
Something cheap like Hell’s Kitchen down the street? Lol or whatever.
https://www.gordonramsayrestaurants.com/en/us/hells-kitchen/locations/lake-tahoe
I'm rolling in Thursday night, just not sure if it will be before dinner.
PM me contact info
We plan to leave Sacramento Thursday afternoon but specific time is up in the air still, my wife's new job schedule is a bit of a variable.
After the 914 stranded us on a trip a couple weeks ago I am towing it to Tahoe.
Jim
HEY! Some of us got an early start and we need a Photo Uploader thread! @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=179 - can you help?
In the meantime, let's talk "What a difference a day makes!" Here's yesterday as I was arriving in South Lake Tahoe and this morning, taken from Gardnerville, NV, just over Kingsbury Grade from the start location.

Question for the organizers.
For those that live in the area (i.e. Reno or Sparks), can we park our 914s at Balley's if we aren't staying at the hotel?
Heading out. See some of you later today!
Attached thumbnail(s)
Careful pulling into the lot to check in. A big dip and hazardous to trailers.
I just realized Bally's is only one parking lot over from where we were at the 2010 WCR.
I parked on the 4th floor next to another 914.
I’m sitting in the cafe del sol bar in case anyone is already here.
I will be heading up tomorrow around 1 PM from Sacramento.
Rolling out the door at 0600 headed to meet everyone. Should be there around 0800.
Nicho and I will be heading up in about an hour…
The parking is free for 1 hour plan accordingly if you are not at the hotel
Meet for drive Saturday on street behind hotel
Attached thumbnail(s)
Looks like they let you borrow the boom lift....nice!
Made it, parked on top of the garage. I knew this place looked familiar, we had the 2014 WCR here.
What time are y'all back from your run?
Great drive today.
Meeting at 6pm at Hotel lobby for those who want to join us for dinner
O
I’m registered, but unable to show up until tomorrow afternoon. I’d like to see you all, maybe the Balleys garage? Anybody know, when and where is dinner tomorrow night?
Also I saw some pics of a silver 914 with cookie cutters on this thread but then they disappeared? Wondering if it’s a car I used to own? Hoping to see you all tomorrow.
Ross
mark and bob here, where is dinner?
when? now?
What time is the drive tomorrow
One of the regroups today. Bottom of Kingsbury Grade…

Looks like fun. Sorry I missed it.
The top of the parking garage is clearing up, if anyone wants to hang out for a few more drinks and car talk.
@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=3348
You left the window down on your car
Cool sticker - sorry I missed this.
Oscar,
There’s a problem. When I got home and Yopu saw the 914 pillow, I knew that I’d have trouble keeping it. She took it, and started cuddled it.
I’m looking for a good place to hide it now…
I just have to say, it was so good to see Elliot Cannon. Us guys who’ve been around since the Club beginning are getting as rare as real six… Missed you Elliot!
It was great seeing everyone and the cars. Thanks to all that helped set this up.
Best to everyone,
Bob B Burton
So happy to be a part of the community
Against all odds some lucky winner received a complete brake restoration from PMB Performance.
Thanks to everyone for your support
Who was the guy who won the brake rebuild?
Just got back to Auburn. What a fun trip; special thanks to Mark (914 Rubber) and his lovely wife and Rob (Cone Dodger), and anyone else who I am sure helped make this event happen.
Last nights dinner at the South of North Brewing Company was a fun time and a great place to have that dinner. My brother Bob and I had a great time and really enjoyed getting to talk to people we rarely get to see.
