Happily my guage showed up today from Puerto Rico. smilie_pokal.gif
Brand spankin new, though the black trim ring still has some marks.
will i ever have perfect trim on my guages confused24.gif
I also need to repaint the guage console plate again.

someone has to have tested all the satin paints for a good match.
anyone?

so now i have to figure out what sender to use with it.
Looks like it says 9/69 on the back, and its just like an early 911 style temp unit i have, but not sure if they are the same.

any guesses?

Krylon "semi-flat black" looks about right for the black parts.

thats a .6 gauge..... i have the same, with the NON lit temp gauge and correct sender for a 4

Posted by: brer Aug 9 2005, 12:01 AM

notice the part number up above the temp area?

so any guesses what sender?
the 911 sender isn't the correct temp range is it?
the /4 sender maybe?

I've got the oil temp sender for a 300 degree VDO gauge at the moment, and it works well with the beat up /4 combi guage i have in the car at the moment, but this one has the light up temp unit and my other one dont.

so i'm guessing there will be differences.
trial and error

you need the insert without the LIGHT.

as seen in 73-76 2.0 cars without a console smile.gif

i did notice it.
but i can't -read- it.

a sender guess would be pretty pointless without knowing the part number of the gauge...

however - if that's a 914.6 gauge - it takes a 901.641.632.00 sender.

I'm wondering if the six sender would put the red zone at the correct temp for acceptable warning?
do sixes have similar heat limitations since they too are air

cooled? 230 degrees or so?

will it fit in my taco? mueba.gif

the last number of the part # is 10 if that helps. dont remember the rest

if you're waiting for the red zone to be alarmed, you may be waiting too long...
but interestingly, here's the difference between the 914.6 gauge and the 911 gauge: the red zone was moved 10F hotter, because 914's don't cool as well as 911's ... somewhere i have (had?) a reference to the actual temp of the red zone.

you'll want to calibrate it before use anyway, right? but yes, the ranges are comparable.

i would be astonished if the sender fit the taco plate, since it is designed for a completely different place. i did post scans of the 911 sender not that long ago, in a thread where Kerry was having sender/gauge compatibility issues.
