Looks like a Studebaker Avanti…

Agree on the potential for early fox body coupe, like the old CHP…. My $$$ is on the Avanti though…

Convertible Pontiac something from the early 90's guessing.

Posted by: bdstone914 Jan 4 2023, 04:14 PM

As much as I would like it to be an Avanti it has too much of a "nose".

But I don't have a good guess other than the front looked like a trans am or firebird to me

Still thinking it's an 80's Pontiac Sunbird Vert with the top up.

I am with root on convertible Sunbird. Small car, roof line matches. Was in a state that requires front plate with badly integrated front mount.

thinking the sunbird guys have got it right.

you can tell those motor city designers back then were really itching to go euro on their headlight designs but the DOT were pulling the reigns hard. circles. circles. circles.
alright we will let you do rectangles but thats as far as you go. and keep em vertical.

Ha - you guys are hilarious and awesome! I've been equally fascinated to find out (at first glance I thought it was a 914) and its nice to see other people with similar curiosity.

Stay tuned... (I don't know what it is!)

Fero?

Posted by: kerensky Jan 5 2023, 01:45 PM

Trunk seems too long for the Sunfire.
My first thought was Avanti but the cover would be droopy between those prominent "nose fins". Later Avantis had square lights and a sloped nose but those fins were still there, so I think that's a no as well.
I think the later Monte Carlo SS/GNX is the most likely candidate.

The anticipation!!! Fun stuff….

Another vote for '90's Sunbird convertible

Posted by: Root_Werks Jan 5 2023, 03:18 PM

It's almost certainly a Pontiac front/grill. Even shark nose BMW's don't have that distinctive shape.

It's certainly a sedan and 99% certain a Vert at that.

It sits high with small wheels.

I'm still voting for an 80's Pont, the 90's nose changed a bit.

Can't wait for hopefully someone to peak under the cover! smile.gif

This contest is now being officially called to a conclusion. The car is now deemed "The Turd Under a Tarp."

Fero?

Not a Fiero (they came with pop-up headlights) due to the headlights alone.

My guess is it's either a Pontiac or a Coprolite.

The trunk is taller than the hood . It must be a turd under a tarp

yep.

probably got one of those chrome luggage racks i can remember seemed to adorn every 80s yank convertible i can remember running around chicago.

(i was so disappointed when i rocked up in the USA in 88 to see what had become of cars, i was hoping for streets full of giant pontiacs and cadillac boats. sad.gif sad.gif )

we had a version of the sunbird made down here called the holden camira.
nickname was the "can opener".
not one of GM's better moments.

Posted by: emerygt350 Jan 5 2023, 07:33 PM

Windshield is too upright for the fox body or sunbird.
