914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Bumper top feedback needed

Posted by: KELTY360 Feb 8 2023, 06:15 PM

It looks like I’ll be needing a new front bumper top because the fastening nuts are rusted solid to the studs that go into the rubber. I’m looking for feedback from those who have purchased reprops. I know figment was problematic in the past. Please let me know your experience.

Nurture them and they will thrive.

It’s all in your imagination.

Wonder if it'd be worth finding an NOS piece?

Price would hopefully be more reasonable given the availability of quality repops. I'll do some looking, let me know if you see one.

Someone on Facebook mentioned that the grain on AA's was a perfect match as well as the fit.

I bought a AA front bumper top for our 73 1.7 about six years ago and it is perfect. The material is a bit more dense but looks good and fits well.

I have Solid top by 914 Rubber and FITS NICELY, looks great

Maybe a coincidence, but I first bought the front bumper top from 914 rubber. It was version 1 and stuck out on the sides. I then saw an add on Ebay from AA for both bumper tops. These fit much better than the 914 rubber bumper tops, but I noticed the AA bumper tops had the same part number as 914 Rubber, but they say V2 instead of V1. I heard 914 rubber makes the bumper tops for AA.
@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=3348 are you supplying the bumper tops to AA?

No we are not. The AA ones are less rubber and more pf a had plastic feel. It's probably a hybrid, but not a pure rubber. They look good. We had initial issues with fitments due to variations. It was small, but it matters. Also helps that we now include the rubber spacers that we originals used. It sets them at the correct height so that the ends do not push out.
Another part we never knew existed, but wound up making.

The last ones I saw it looked more like a plaster type of finish. The correct finish should be a light sand finish. He may have corrected them as it's been years since I've seen them.
