914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 1974 AUBERGINE 2.7 Restoration Thread (The Eggplant)

Posted by: TROJANMAN Mar 15 2023, 04:53 PM

This story begins a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, called California.

But first I wanted to start with some prophetic words from an old friend, that I miss dearly, as I am sure many others do too.......... slits.gif

Here are 2 links with a bit of a history on how THOMAS got the car:

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=68883&st=0

Note: The car did not come with the cool gauges, and all of the oil lines have since been remastered by PMB (so I am told biggrin.gif )

Thomas posted a lot of pics https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/clubnarp/the-eggplant-t1918.html But I did not do a great job with site maintenance, and they have disappeared........... sad.gif

He purchased the car from SWood, for I think $1000?

Here is a snapshot of what I got when I bought it biggrin.gif

It went from THOMAS, to Joe Sharp, to Steve (for a month or two?), to me smile.gif, to PMB

My recollection of the car is that it was really fun to drive. 2.7 S was really peppy. The response was wonderful. The factory should have built that car. Aside from the race car it is the 914 I have enjoyed driving the most.

I think we are getting closer............

Posted by: TROJANMAN Jan 28 2024, 12:54 PM

I could use some help sourcing some items.
I have been out of the game for a little while and it seems I gave away a bunch of my old stock from cars we cut up in my garage.

If anyone could point me in the right direction for the following items, that would be awesome!

Interior Fabric Kit (tan) OR I need 2 seat cushions for a '74 tan basket weave

Door handles

Tan Carpet Kit

Thanks!

I found the old NARP board in an internet graveyard. You can click on the link in my Signature.

You can see the TAN interior sitting against the wall. I think the contrast is going to be great!

What happened to the tan interior? Change in plans?

Tan interior is at the upholstery shop. The seat cushions were widely torn when I pulled them from storage.

The black interior is actually in new condition, and let's me drive the car driving-girl.gif
And it looks really good.

It was a sacrificial donation from the parts car rolleyes.gif

Why does a 74 have a fixed passenger seat?

Or is that a temporary interior?

Well........ When I bought the car, THOMAS had installed an early interior because he was trying to clone a 6. At one point he had some cool 356 gauges in the car. The door panels are from an early 6 also. Anyway, that interior was crap, so I swapped it with my parts car, which had a brand new interior, already reupholstered.

I have a tan interior that is at the shop, but that could take months . Plus, the black is starting to grow on me, and I am never the passenger bootyshake.gif

I have all the parts to switch back.
