1975 914. Installed intermittent wiper relay. Wipers worked but would randomly turn on while driving. Removed relay, wipers worked fine on low and high. Check other posts, problem: switch not grounded. So I purchased a VW111.953,519H switch that has the little ground post on the upper right screw. Installed everything, turn on the wipers with the intermittent relay and the wipers do not shut off. Pulled the relay and the wipers only work with the stalk all the way down in the intermittent position and in the off position. If I move the stalk to the low or high position, they do not work. It appears I need to switch some wires on the motor. The VW111.953.519H Wiper switch was pictured in a post as the switch needed for intermittent wipers. The diagram is the VW wire diagram for the wiper switch. What is the diagram for a 914? What I am asking is what wires from the motor need to be switched to correspond to this switch?
Are you sure the parts weren't made by Lucas?
Don;t knw if tis helpds or not, but that diagram on the chassis harness plug is not what I have in my records. I would think that the mating wires on the switch would be the same:
S1 (not 31B) - Brown//black
53 - Black/blue
53e - Green/white
53a - Red/black
53b - Black/purple
On the 914, what does each pin on the switch correspond to the connections on the motor?
Weird.. all I did was install a 924 stalk and replace the relay and it worked fine. I wanted the 924 stalk for the electric washer contact. Oh and I had to clip the plastic on the stalk for the intermittent wiper position.
What was the part number for the 924 switch?
Check out:
Windshield Wiper Switch (Front)
Part Number: 47795390201C
Supersession(s): 477-953-902-01-C; 477-953-902-01C; 477953902 01C
FIXED! Compared the wires in the old switch. Wires were switched on pins 2&3. Swapped the wires and now everything works!
Nice!
It's nice to have delay wipers. PO installed the 924/Mk1 setup in my 914. Also have electric washers which is nice.
While I’ve had the intermittent wiper system for a few years, I really like the Boxters rain sensor. It’s intermittent depending upon the amount of rain. It can really go fast if it starts to pour.
