Is it my imagination, or is the Front bumperette/bumper guards longer on the front than on the back for the ‘74 cars?

You are correct, fronts are longer.

Thanks.
And hypothetically speaking could the longer fronts be run on the back? Are the angles the same? Could someone possibly shoot a picture of a rear laying on top of a front ?

I can send pics of NOS sets of front and back, but on car it is difficult to see any differences.
Btw. 73’s had the same setup.

Thanks Jett, I’ve googled of course and there’s no comparison pics I can find.. yea they’re either a set of fronts or a set of backs or mounted on a car - and like you said, it’s hard to get a good impression of the differences that way.
I feel the longer would be better for the back visually and want to know if they could be switched up and ran that way - a crazy idea I know
I haven’t sourced a set yet and am on the fence, knowing if they could be switched up could help me decide.

'73 had front's only.
The curvature of the front bumper is different from the rear. The mounting hole spacing for the bumperettes is likely different as well since the rear's have a smaller footprint on the bumper face.

I have thought of those two issues.. first I have spare bumpers I could modify if the whole spacing is off. Secondly, I’m thinking that the fronts are set fairly close together where the curvature of the front bumper is less pronounced and therefore wouldn’t cause them to sit at crazy angles. But that’s why comparison pics would help. And in truth I’m not even all that concerned with running them on the front of my modded car, I do like the look at the rear bumper though and will run standard rear sizes if nothing else.

You can always run the Bumperettes from a 75 on the early bumpers for a cleaner look.

Yup.....It's what I've done,
except, be aware the mounting holes are vertical on the 75-76 bumpers,
73-74 front bumperettes are horizonal .
meaning drilling extra holes.
it's ok on my front bumper, it was previously was in some form of accident with the original bumperette .
slightly dinged up,
the 75-76's bumperette from 75-76 Cali, REAR bumper covered pretty good.

That looks great! Yea, I like that for the fronts, may do that too eventually.. but I'm trying to get a lengthened rear section if anything. Langheck

Sorry, my bad really meant that the fronts were different than the reason 74. Thanks for the correction.

I have a '74. Due to my VERY limited garage space, I put a set of shorter '74 rear bumperettes on the front of my car. They fit perfectly and it takes a very critical eye to notice they are rears on the front. Therefore, I see no reason why fronts would not fit on the rear perfectly.

OK Great, thanks for that it's very helpful!! I doubted anyone had actually (purposefully) switched them up, so I didn't ask.

Without a vertical overhead view, it appears the rear bumperettes mounted on the front don't have much extension to provide desirable protection? I value the length of the original front "tits' on my 73 that have prevented a potentially damaging bump or 2 in practice, although I did have to replace one that was damaged.

My car came with this set up, closer together than a stock 74. I like the look of this location better than the factory spot. Not sure if they are front or rears, my car is a 71 so shouldn’t have them

That closer spacing is interesting.. since I have a bumper to mod anyway I'm gonna give that some consideration, thanks for the pic, it'll be handy for comparison!

Not much protection there.

More than a 914/6,
I've already accept the bumperettes wouldn't do much protection in a accident over 25 mph.
as we love our 914's, we're sure to be careful to Not, To bump anything
