Since my hood will be a pretty wide and featureless without the headlights, I will make the gas filler a feature...probably along with another vent but I'll reveal that later.
Here's modifying the "funnel"

removed the inlet tube and bottom...but need to open it a little wider, any ideas? It is basically a tube within a tube and the bottom is a bit narrow for the late filler tube.

Here's the late filler tube, modern vent flap and guide

Here's the "bling" option sans funnel. It even came with a jewelry-like bag .

Do you have a shot of the base of the filler? Maybe you can fab up a flange for it.
i had been noticing gas stink after tip toping fill ups and hard cornering. i pulled over and gave it a look. there was a bit that had leaked around the cap and was going down the overfill tube. i was glad i had an extra cap with an uncracked gasket.

Some good advise on forming the access http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=42770&hl=and
I like the idea of your project, and the Porsche embossed gas cap is cool......but....one of the nice things about the 914 is the security of the gas tank. I can see why you'd want it accessable in a race car, but for me that would be the only reason. I'm not big on a gas cap as a styling feature, and IMHO it's against the grain of your project. Just my .02 though, it's your car and you've got to do as you wish!

At least make it locking (or get a locking gas cap). I like the way you're headed with the tank access.
I kinda like opening the trunk to fill the tank. Sure it's a pain, but the faces people make when they see you pop your hood and pump gas into it are priceless.
"Dude, he's just pumping it straight into the engine!!! That thing must have crappy gas milage!"
Andyrew, you have enough to explain with the grumbling V8 sound and it "does" drink like a
yup!
got me there! lol

... Then while it's filling, go to the rear trunk, open it, and throw some cargo in there |
i've done that like three times at the local Conoco. They offer full service for 10 cents a gallon. I just go into the lobby and sit down- pretend to read a magazine. About five minutes later, they have to ask. I only do it when it's really busy too. Makes the staff look really skilled. Made one lady change her mind about the full service option.javascript:emoticon('')

The day I bought my NEW 914 in '73, I took it to fill it with gas and the attendant asked if I wanted him to check my oil. Of course I said yes and standing at the front he said pop the rear hood....so I did, now he was already filling the gas tank at the front and the look on his face (which has been repeated over the years many times) was priceless...then he says holy shit dude, I think your engine is missing....after I opened the engine lid he says "damn, must be a small engine to fit in there...what a crack up....

Opening a trunk lid in order to fill your gas makes no sense to me...but maybe that is a "unique" 914 feature I'm eliminating |
How are you going to keep someone from swiping that ga$ cap?

I have a locking cap for SEMA rules, but will swap for the Tequipment for show (with a wire keeper for sticky fingers). It will be lower but you get the idea...

hey im with the popup idea
maybe a setup that stays above the cap/tank assembly when you open the front but can still be utilised when the trunk is open or closed ??????
hey just an idea, it would cover both bases
there are plenty of donor cars for a spring mechanism
hey you could use lexen
just cant get the stuff out of my head damn it
damn it
