Herr Governor's ride prior to his duties in Sacramento- a Steuer Daimler Puch (SDP) Pinzgauer, Austrian built mighty 4WD commonly used by military (NATO ?)and off road adventurers extraordinaire . It also has escape hatches on the roof driving.gif
This was at a local car exhibit in BH 90210. In the prior year show, he brought his Terminator Hummer.

When I lived in Pacific Palisades the only car I saw him drive was his Hummer. Never saw that beast around town.

the Pinzgauer was built in Austria from 1971 to 2000 by the Steyr Daimler Puch AG in numerous body versions
it was developed for the Austrian military, but it was available in a civil version too
even the Swiss military bought a lot of Pinzgauer

the Pinzgauer is told to be one of the very best offroad cars ever built

after Frank Stronach (boss of http://www.magna.com/magnaWeb.nsf/homepage?OpenFrameset) bought the Steyr Daimler Puch AG he stopped the Pinzgauer production after about 30k built cars sad.gif

Gustl- it looks like Magna is the new mfg. for the viscous coupler awd units that SDP used to make. My old VW Vanagon Syncro 4WD had the SDP running gear under it--good stuff cool.gif

yepp - MAGNA bought the whole SDP which is a real 4WD specialist
they also produced (and still produce) 4WD cars for FIAT, Mercedes, VW, ...
they also produce cars for Saab (the 93 cabriolet), Chrysler (the Voyager for Europe, the Grand Cherokee), ...
