I'm helping a buddy determine the practicality/possibility (!) of a really cool engine swap and, having nothing remotely resembling a stock 914, I'm asking for your help:
We need to know the vertical distance from the lowest part of the engine to the base of the transaxle bell housing.
See my awesome pic for a bit of a visual of what we're looking for.
Thanks in advance. And yes, assuming the motor will fit, there will be a build thread! It'll be super cool as I'm not aware of anyone who's swapped in the motor he has planned.
Again, any help greatly apprecated!
Chris

One tour of the Red Barn and my imagination's on fire. Thank you, Chris!
12mm at just under the diff.
Stright edge on two rectangular pads at center seam on the engine.
Bottom of trans pretty flat. Minor upslope towards rear.
Bone stock 75 1.8l.
more info
bottom of engine to transmission flange inner circle on case 55mm
Bottom of engine case to lowest point on rear of case 44mm
This will be close to your bottom of bell housing request.
These measurements taken from a 73 2.0l case.
and wait there's more...
Went back and measured exactly what was requested on the 75.
Bottom of engine pads to lowest point on the bell housing (at its mating surface with the engine case) is 53mm.
The 73 and the 75 have significantly different "pads" with the 75 1.8l pads extending farther than the 73 2.0.
Hope this helps.
Rick

So, I'm guessing you're Tyga's friend.
So, does that make the two of you "Itchie and Scratchie"?
Feel sort of bad for Tyga!
Scratchie usually take it in the shorts in that comic...
