At the Broad Arrow auction today at Amelia Island this factory racer sold for $1,00,000.00.
I was there.

Wasn't the estimate 1.2-1.5M?

Seems like it went cheap...

(not that I can afford it anyways!)

That guy with the bald head in the bottom of the 2nd pic paid $2.8m for a 1988 959.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for all the pictures in the pics thread too!
I'll look through that every time I visit.

My "Zen" break during a day of fixing appliance cars.

Keeps me sane.

Now, I either need to win a Lottery or maybe write a book...

I did a phone in bid for 999,999. Just missed it confused24.gif

Maybe it's time to put the car back on the market.

You know, sell the bucket of bolts & rescue a few more Chihuahuas.

CTTOI, the dogs are much more fun.

I'm not so familiar with that auction stuff ... but if it sold, why does the official auction homepage still says "Now Asking: $ 1.250.000" confused24.gif

It hammered at $1m which doesn't mean it sold. It had a reserve so it sounds like the owner decided not to sell it and wants $1.25M.

Don't give your money to the ASPCA, the CEO's annual salary is$993,000! That's 5000 doners at $19 per month before one animal is saved.

Think that's bad... look at the red cross... The CEO of ASPCA must do a lot of cat savings to make that kind of buck, or corruption.
I will use the picture from this car for my future builds. A 959 is so cool also.

I HATE! The emotional stabbing of the ASPCA commercials that air constantly showcasing horrid animal treatment. I wonder if those commercials are made and aired for $0? We donate directly to our local Humane Society, low cost spay and neuter clinic, and a couple of other ‘rescue’ organizations. I’m a sucker for dog adoptions and strays in general. Both of our cats were stray kittens that showed up on the property. Our dog was an adoption thru the local HS (a surrender. Pets surrendered are placed on a 3 day hold. I was the first in line at the door the morning Lou was adoptable and brought her home)

Posted by: windforfun Mar 3 2024, 02:07 PM

I hate them too. Big time. Your suggestion regarding the local humane society is an excellent one. We've recused about a dozen dogs over the years. We get them home & then take them to the dentist (except for the really young ones.) Regardless, they go to the vet ASAP & get yearly checkups (& whatever dental work is required as they age).

How the fuck did this thread get highjacked to a discussion about dogs and cats?

Good question!
Thanks for sharing the pics. I remember seeing a few GT’s at Amelia when the 914 was a featured car a few years ago.

If the $1M bidder is a serious collector, those Haggerty auction agents should negotiate a decent (post auction) deal both for buyer/ seller; in my opinion at the cost of the House taking less commissions.

Besides auto insurance, Haggerty is tapping into auctions (Broad Arrow), Historical, Celebrity & Theme display tents at major track events; I think they run Radwood (Amelia and elsewhere) events as well.

Race cars do nothing for me. I'd rather have my assembly line '74 2.0L, even if I could afford such a waste of money.

Haggerty is also doing lots of local events. They sponsor C&C and weekend rallies in my area.

It’s not for everyone. I hate collectors that don’t show the car. So glad that Marty got the Lemans car. I’ve seen it at Luft and Rennsport. Such a cool car. Zwart used to also bring a couple of the winning GT cars to the Crystal Cove Cars & Coffee before he moved to Colorado.

its possible that the snap buttons are not original.
maybe happened somewhere along the way later in time.

period photos of the monte carlo rally cars in the factory workshop getting prepped don't seem to show the studs.
instead the engine lid seems to have solid strips in the mesh like rain lids over the stacks.
i think i have seen the same thing with solid strips on other factory team cars but not necessarily the rest of GTs supplied to customers.

Attached Image

very few of these factory team cars stayed original after they were finished with.
often sold on to customers and used on the road even.
one of the monte cars became the recarro safety car.
this one here being offered for sale was restored to original race condition.
for instance #40 was restored, it had been sold and used as a road car after finishing its race life.
