Are you gong to leave the suspension as the body shop installed it?
Posted by: Krieger Mar 12 2024, 08:06 AM
You guys are awesome for bringing it back!

No. Once it comes home, it will get a full overhaul of the suspension. The body shop had to put it back on wheels to be able to remove the bracing they installed for the rotisserie.
And I don't think it is going to make Okteenerfest this year. I have lots of work to do on it before it will be even close to road worthy.

Clay what happened to the ribbing on the inner rocker? Was it covered by some kind of stiffener?

Two of my cars have the Brad Mauyer stiffening kit. I have one more kit that was never used. Her car looks good.

After 4 years, we got it back from the body shop today.
It is OVERWHELMINGLY orange. But I know that will be toned down when we get the rockers, valences, bumpers and vinyl on it.
We also brought home the rockers, valences, dash frame, engine lid, torsion bars for the trunk and engine lids, and other miscellaneous parts. We have to make another trip out there to bring back the rotisserie and the old, damaged parts.

The reflections of the street in the paint are mirror perfect...
Looks like a Bentley paint job!
So much better than what it came with originally.

Fresh Tangerine is pretty bright and obnoxious too.
I forgot how bright till it came back from the painter.
I'm sure you will put it back together a lot faster than I have..

What I find interesting is that it looks like he has two cars, different colors, with the same plate!
The state of Texas re-issued the plate number on my wife's Oddy to a "classic" plate.
After she was stopped, for the 5th time, for stealing a 62 Dodge, we got new plates...
Police seem to NOT understand, not only is it NOT a 62 Dodge, the plates look like they have been on the car for years.
It's the ONLY time we've been stopped in a Minivan!
5 times in less than 3 months...
How do you get away with that Clay?

That group photo makes me happy.
See you in May, brother.

Only the blue 914-6 is currently registered. And we don't do "classic" or "antique" plates. Just standard plates. Antique and classic plates have restrictions we don't like.
The plate "Clays" was my father's custom plate. In Texas, custom plates like this are owned by the person, and they can assign it to a vehicle they own. He had it for years, since I was in high school. At one time it was on the white Jeep pickup I now own, and on multiple vehicles over the years. It was even on his 1955 Chevy Bel Air convertible for a while. When he passed, it was on the GMC SUV that I inherited. So when I got the SUV registered, the plate was released. I anxiously watched the website where the custom plates were sold, and the day it showed up, I grabbed it for my red six conversion.
When it came time to renew the plate, the red six was down with the engine out. So I couldn't get it inspected, and I couldn't register it. Which meant the plate would be released back into the available pool. To keep that from happening, we transferred to the blue factory six as a placeholder so I didn't lose it. When the red six is back up and running, I will have the plate transferred back to it.
The set of plates on the Blue six were the ones that were on the SUV when my father passed, and the set on the Red six were the set I got when I first registered that plate in my name. So I have two sets of metal plates with "Clays" on them.
I want to talk Betty into this:
On her car: "Bettys"
On my six: "Clays"
On the blue factory six: "Ours"
I probably won't be able to talk Betty into it for her car. But I am going to try.

The title on the orange one is in her name.
The title on the red one is in my name.
The title on the blue one is in both of our names.
That is how we determine the person making the final decisions on everything done to the car. With the blue one, we have to agree on any modifications.

They're looking good, Clay! The fun begins on Betty's car now.
