914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Engine Lid Release (custom)

Posted by: TROJANMAN Apr 30 2024, 03:30 PM

My engine lid cable was broken when I bought the car.
PO bent the cable and rigged it to stick out between the engine lid and the trunk.
You had to hold it just right in order to close the engine lid without trapping the cable.

Today I fixed that biggrin.gif

$3 at Home Depot and now it works smash.gif

I am still looking for a better handle, so if you have suggestions........ idea.gif

I kind of like the TEE, but I am still looking around the house at old toys for something better. w00t.gif

I order a new cable and I am thinking of rerouting to the original location, but that thing never worked well......... blink.gif

You are using continuous design improvement principles right?

Yes. I even changed the orientation of the handle to improve aerodynamics.

I will have to shoot a picture of mine. Works perfectly and use the OEM knob but in the same basic location as yours

A lot of these cars are just pleasure vehicles and don't get far from the owners glance. I'd guess that most people won't know what the knob is for and even if they do, it just opens the lid. A motorcycle has an exposed engine but people still park them. But obviously, this isn't a necessary mod so it shouldn't be done if it worries you.

Why not just take it back to stock. Tons of original use setups available from junked cars as well as new replacements available. Why re-invent the wheel? I do not see external pull has any advantage.

I ran into a very interesting part on an early Boxster While disassembling a wrecked Boxster I found the electric trunk latch is the same as the 914 deck lid latch but with a solenoid actuator . I never tried it but a simple wire and push button should work. I have the latch if you want to try . AL
