914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Fog Lamp Switch

Posted by: Tobra Aug 28 2005, 02:05 AM

The car has fog lamps, but it has some cheesy ass toggle switch that is snapped off anyway. The hole is in the right place, so I am thinking the PO perhaps went ot Radio Shack instead of the stealership, way back when. Would the switch that pelican lists as part # HEL-PEL-FSW work? It is only $15, which is a shocker to my untrained eye. It is a generic hella switch, no pic, but sounds similar to what it should be. No wiring kit, but the wires would be behind the dash anyway, and I am not a complete idiot(Semi stupid only)

I think the original fog light switches are NLA. You have to find them on eBay or ask here. They are expensive plus it is 30 years old by now. Not sure about the Pelican replacement. Does it look the same?

No pic, but the description sounds right, and the fog lamp switch in dear old Dad's '84 Carrera Cab looks like pics I have seen

I just looked at Pelicans factory fog switch. It is NLA. I am sure the Hella works fine, just not a factory original. I would look for a factory switch. Being a fog switch, I would think you can find one in good shape. I don't think they get used much. I never use mine. Eddy

Would the switches from a 911 work? Seems like they would and they might be eaiser to find.

my thoughts exactly

It's the same switch as the rear defogger, just the insert is different. They are quite common on old VW's... I think the bay window busses had them and I think the 4way flashers are the same switch in later beetles.
I do have a couple of inserts kicking around...might be a couple of weeks before I could send you one though.

you really dont need the stock switch... you could wire them to either the running lights or to the ign, so when what ever one youhave it wired to is on so are the fogs, ie like day time running lights
