The 50th Porsche Parade 2005 at Hershey, was the largest event of Porsches I've been to. I realized that no matter how car,or Porsche crazy I am, it's possible to burnout from Porsche overload. I did manage to photograph enough 914s to make this topic worth viewing. I ask anyone with photos of this event to please post them.
I will start with some of the vintage race 914s that were on display, starting with this 1971 914-6GT Daytona winner.

I already posted some of these, but it is a good excuse to pull 'em back up. Lessee if I've got a picture of your car! I guess I met you there? This first one is the attendees, waiting to go over to the non-conncours parking area. My car is the one closest to the camera (of course )

Scott thats great! Keep them coming. More on the overall vintage racers. I also have photos of the 914s parked in the non-concours area, but they look as if they should be judged.

Oh Scott, I did not take my car to the Parade. I went there to get as many photos of all Porsches as one could, in the three days I was there. I went there to relax, and enjoy.
Hey Scott, here is a similar shot focused on the faces of the concours judged 914s.

C GTs look prettty good in yellow- I still think they are a bit too big, but this looked smaller than the GT-2 next to it.

WOW!! Great photo of the longtail. I took close to five hundred photos of all Porsches together. Maybe about eighty 914s. I went crazy on most of the vintage race porsches. I spent most of my time in the non-concours parking display of every model porsche. I have some awesome photos of the Yellow Carrera GT. I guess I'll post the 914s first, and than some of the others, but keep the photos coming it's good to see other photos of the show.
Ok Scott you talked me into showing two Carrera GT photos. I think there's alittle 914 in that side view. Look at the sail panel next to the side glass...914 all the way.

The engine area is always a crowd pleaser of the C GT.

just a silly question.....why does the yellow and green car have a different rear wheel set on, both cars not just one....hmmmm

The Max Moritz car belongs to Steve Limbert of Air Cooled Racing in Wellsville, PA. Until recently he also owned a Jennings 911.
The blue # 78 is owned and driven by Les Handley in FP in SCCA. Always makes the Runoffs.
the yellow sunoco #5 is also a real Gt formerly (maybe presently) owned by gary wigglesworth from york PA. i saw the car often at summit point and at the hershey swap meets, have some pix of it on the track and at the swap meet, always a car of interest. something like a sebring winner or class winner but a real GT nonetheless.

Just curious (read dreaming) how much does a nice car like these /4s and /6s cost? What's a real world figure on a concours or almost concours quality car?

About six or eight years ago, now, a local guy sold his consours-winning ultra-cherry silver 73 1.7 for right around $15,000. I doubt prices have dropped since then...

Geeze pics like that make me feel bad about my car, but then again I would feel bad driving those CW cars around.
Thanks for the pics
The non-concours parking area had some awesome Porsches parked there. This was the first area of the show where I started to photograph the cars. I quess it was the yellow Carrera GT that pulled me in that area, along with the early 911s ,912s, 356s,and the 914s. All the cars seemed to be high quality. This photo shows an over view of the field of Porsches.

Nick,
You should recognize the canary yellow 914/6 that sat next to the adriatic blue 914/6 in your pics. The blue car took 1st place in 914/6 Restoration Touring class and was trailered in. However, the yellow 914/6 belongs to BS Chairman, is a daily driver and was driven 8 hours from Michigan to the Parade. It took 2nd place at Parade and was 1st Place at the MWC 2005. Congrats Gary on a beautifully maintained daily driver. No CW there!
Check out the detail on the engine.

These following photos were taken on saturday, the day before the concours. They show the hard work all the owners went through to prep their cars for the concours on sunday. The #59 Phoenix Red car is owned by myself, my father, and my two sons. All four of us share expenses, and driving. We autocross and do PCa DE's with the car. It has been built with the intention of club racing.
All of the work (even paint) is our own except the cage which was done by Steve Limbert at Air cooled racing. The car was purchased from Steve in 2003. It was AXed with success in the Philadelphia area in the 80's by a previous owner.
Current engine is a carbed 2069 four. Fenders, hood and deck lid are glass as are the bumpers. Note seen is a ATL cell and Oberg filter. Plans are to do six conversion when we can find a 3.0L we can afford.
Car has been built to closely duplicate the Brumos IMSA car of the 70's. Until just before the Parade, it even had Brumos windshield banner. The original said "Built in Jacksonville" on the rear.
Thanks for the kind words and the photos.

The 914-6 from Maine is an original Swiss registry 914-6 that was brought into the states in '85. I've attempted to keep it as original as possible with limited mods. Re-paint of the front hood as the prior owner added a badge that did not appear on the original, left door jamb as it had a few deep scratches from what I don't know. Added Bilsteins and drilled rotors front and back (originals were not serviceable). Replaced the rear fog with what Porsche said was a superceded model. I'm still searching for a good period original. The original one with the car has shattered lense, and interior reflected was tarnished beyond repair. The superceded model's housing appears correct, however the lense has a slight different profile where it meets the housing. I can't swear that it is original to the car as it does not appear on the Certificate of Authenticity, unless it is covered by the "Switzerland Equipment" option.
Engine upgrade has been limited to chain tensioner update and lower valve covers. Turned 100,000km in route to the Parade.
I was too timid (or wise?) to enter the Concours.
BTW, the color of the 914-6 of Swiss registry is "Blutorange". Sure looks like the standard Tangerine, however it does not carry the same color label (i.e. L21). It is definitely brighter than my plain jane Signal Orange 914-4.
I wonder if "blutorange" translates to "blood orange" paint number 23.

Ed V's was verified but as much as I kept up with the process when it was being processed and then turbo powered I would have to be blind not to know that dream 914. Hey Nick,
Beautiful shots of the 904. A few years ago (1998) I had the opportunity to park next to a local (MI) 904 at Meadowbrook. It's the 6-cyl model 904. The owner still owns it and has owned it over 30 years. Great guy and a real piece of history. I just wish at the time I realized what I was looking at. I would have taken more pictures along side my car. O'well I didn't know what an important car it was back then. I sure like the 904, my car if I hit the lotto.

Hi Nick (keep those pictures coming) I don't want to highjack your posting, but I attended the Birmingham cruise-in this morning. I want to tell everyone my 914 was popular. Respect, Respect Our little cars are very popular There were some hi-buck cars there and everyone was treated the same. Here's a few pictures. Tom |

Can anyone guess what vintage racer this is?
Attached thumbnail(s)
Here is another clue.
Attached image(s)
This is the last clue to what vintage racer is this?
Attached thumbnail(s)
More of the 908/2. Maybe someone could add some history to this vintage racer. I think Steve McQueen may of had a similar Porsche racer.
Attached thumbnail(s)
Great looking exhaust pipes on the 908/2.
Attached thumbnail(s)
This next vintage racer is a 1970 917LH with Martini-Racing-Team graphics. These long tails are very cool!!

This view shows the long tail of the 917LH.

your pictures are GREEAT!- Look at that 917 you just posted. The curve around the rear spoiler and the CGT(?) or GT-2 in the reflection. And the cars are just beyond, well, beyond comprehension. Look at the Donahue car- those winglets at the front- and those engine pictures are T-riffic too. I like the turbos on the 917. Thanks! Keep 'em coming if you have the chance!
Detail shot of the graphics on the center side of the 917LH.
Attached thumbnail(s)
do you suppose it ever looked that good before a race? I think not.
Oh now there you go! I love the 908 picture.

It's hard to say what the painted surfaces looked like back in the 1970's,but what is missing is all the tape that was used around the headlamps, and some of the parting lines between panels. We all know that at the end of a race the cars were pretty beat-up from paint to mechanicals. I've always liked the 917 long-tail Hippie car,I wish that one would have been there.

I think this is Porsches 1962 Formula One type 804,and Dan Gurney the driver.

Great pictures...
Ouch!! I would not fancy a head to steering wheel interface with that securing large nut

Hi again Nick,
Been trying to find out how you get great pictures. I used your recent Photoshop formula with a recent picture of my 914. I followed your procedure and will now post it. Lets see if it comes close to yours. Your are the photo man.
Her goes. If it looks good guys lets have Nick post the formula again.

Sean: Can't see the bug in the paint just to the right & below the side mirror.
Hey Sean,
This one's for you.

the 804 Dan Gurney racer was so cool. It really looked like Dan just stepped out. Some of the cars there were fabulously clean, but the 804 wasn't. It had war wounds and a patina of use, like a great old watch. Every mark was a story I could only imagine.

The read out on this vintage racer calls it the 1976 BABY TURBO. It's a 911 based, turbocharged Carrera RSR Coupe with Martini racing graphics. VERY WIDE-BODY!!!
Attached thumbnail(s)
Another front 3qtr.view showing the power widebody.
Attached thumbnail(s)
This is a great view, showing a very nice graphic break-up of body panel surfaces, and functional cut aways to allow heat from the engine to be removed.
Attached thumbnail(s)
As I was walking around this race Porsche I had to photograph this area of quick surface changes, and all the graphics along with the different textures of materials.

718 Spyder is one cool racer, from the early 1960's.

Interior of this 718 Spyder. It would be nice to take this one out for a drive on the country black top roads.

Four-cam Abarth Zagato Carrera,based off the 356.
Attached thumbnail(s)
Great looking form on this Abarth Zagato.
Attached thumbnail(s)
Seeing this Porsche in person was very exciting, every angle a beautiful picture. I think only about twenty of these Abarths were made.

Some of the 911's that filled the Historic field of Porsches, is this 1970 911ST.
Attached thumbnail(s)
thanks! I love 'em. That 962 looks ready to explode. And the "aaahhh- barth" and 718. The details of the Baby Turbo. All of 'em, just increadible.

One more of the 911 line-up in the non-concours area, but later in the site I will post more early 912's to late 1980's 911 Turbos.

Historic 356, I sorry I don't have the history on this one,but it looks like one of the early ones made in the late 1940's.

Hey that car is one we built. Its Greg Deborg's It is really has a 2.7 engine in it. Greg did all the paint and bodywork and we did the engine conversion and suspension stuff for him. Its very nice, and it came in 2nd down by 1 point. Congrats! |

That's a Gmund coupe. Aluminum bodied, hand-built in Gmund Austria. That was the first production series of the 356, after the "number one" car. --DD |

Yes I do have photos of 1980's 911s,and Turbos, but only in the non-concours parking area of the show. Is there one car you are looking for? Maybe I have it. |
Final photo I have of this Hillclimber from the 3qtr rear view. This would be a great car to have on curved, and hilly roads.

that 912 is such a pretty blue. Like a clear October sky in the afternoon. Thanks for the pictures, and the descriptions provide good info and observations too!

There's something great about a silver 356 with racing graphics that separates it from the rest of the field.
Attached thumbnail(s)
This Porsche super-car the Carrera GT was the first porsche I started to photograph at the Parade Concours. This beauty was parking in the non-concours area as the photos will show.
Attached thumbnail(s)
I'm taking photos as I follow the Carrera GT. Man..Yellow!! This is the first one and still the only yellow GT I've seen so far. I liked the yellow.

The owner just stepping out of the Carrera GT.

Rear engine lid is up,and the crowds of people will soon surround the GT.

Not your normal mirror, the art in form is all around this super-car.
Attached thumbnail(s)
This interior is special in everyway,it lets you know you have something not from the norm...Not your average sports car interior. Everything on this super Porsche is setting the bar higher on design, and engineering. This production model is way better than the concept model of this car. I see the show concept model every week at Porsche Engineering, and Porsche managed to be better in production.
