The tenth is our 50th wedding anniversary. I really like this event, so I am sort of signed up…if my wife is willing. She has signed up for WCR, so maybe.

Wow! Seven thousand feet for base camp. Glad the 3.2 has the aneroid piece that comes with the ECU. Hope it works. I guess it has been to the north rim, so it oughta. Thanks for setting this up.

So I was thinking of taking a break this year and doing some other stuff...

but then you had to go an plan it in Salida

As a teenager I spent every summer in Buena Vista at a summer camp.

My dad would drive me out every year from So Cal across 40 and then up 285. This is after the one year we attempted 550 in a carb'd airstream bus, cuz you only do that once. I used to pass the time dreaming I was making the drive in a 914.

On occasion the camp would take us to the hot springs in Salida.

Since its been on my list to go back after 25+ years, and as I have never been there in a 914...

But you didn't have to cross, Kansas, or Oklahoma, or Texas. Its like 20 hours one way. However my friend lives in Salida and he drove the red 75 (that I drove at the Rocket City Ramble) out there a couple of years ago.

I think I am in, pending car repairs and the motel fixing my reservation.
I called so I could ask a few questions.
They kept telling me the wrong start date or the wrong check out date.
Her excuse was the computer kept refreshing...
Might be sleeping in the car the first day or the last day, not sure.
Hopefully they can get it fixed.

I should have a friend joining me in his 914. Mark Z.

Just called the Silver Ridge Lodge to book a room for Me and Donna. The code still works, unfortunately they are completely sold out (booked). I did leave my number in case someone cancels. Don't really want to stay at a different place than everyone else. I know I know I shouldn't have waited so long. Might be sitting this one out. If someone in our group does cancel please PM me and I'd be happy to take your room.
Thanks Mike

Getting old is challenging, even for the old person. Still trying to decide. It looks like maybe if we left North Bend on the 8th we would get there on the tenth, the anniversary of our wedding during the bicentennial year. We could then steam home to Madison by the following Monday or Tuesday. Still adding the numbers and multiplying by “is this what you call an anniversary?” My 60th birthday was celebrated with a Costco pizza while buying a battery to get us to Ockteenerfest.

Bob,
Yes next door did have rooms but they had some pretty tough reviews so I passed on them. Would have been okay for me but not my better half.

I am disappointed but won’t be able to attend this year. I il-timed an interior project which isn’t going to be completed in time to make the trip.

Good news Everyone,
Good news twice.

Good news 1. The Silver Ridge had an one opening. It was a large 2 bedroom suite for an exorbitant amount. LOL. So I took it and they said they would put me in a regular room if some canceled. So we'll definitely be there.

Good news 2. @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=19325 (Ed) messaged me and said he would not be making it due to car issues and offered me his room. Thank you Thank you Thank you. No 6 person suite for me and maybe I'll save a few bucks on the room and put it in my tow vehicle.

If anyone has shredtherad phone number it would be great if you could get ahold of him and let him know the Silver Ridge has 2 opening again so he doesn't have to stay at a motel down the road. One regular room and the big room I just cancelled. He'll need to call them not online.

Great. Looking forward to seeing you guys.

Hello again! Silver Ridge Lodge doesn't have a consecutive stay 9/10-13 available anymore, but will give us the Porsche914 discount on their next door sister property Salida Inn and Monarch Suites. Call them directly 719-239-3751 with Porsche914 promo.

Also, I added a smidgen more event details in Post #1 drunk.gif

Hello Everyone! This event has a $40 event fee which covers Friday dinner at the hotel and our dinner space at Elevation Brewery on Saturday. Gone are the days where we can make a reservation for 30ish people without space fees and minimum food spend. So, event fee options are Venmo or PayPal Sharon Ginter. Both have a profile photo of me in ski helmet at ABasin. Or cash at event. Please make sure you add info in PayPal or Venmo comments who all is included in event fee. See you in 29 days! drunk.gif

The entire town is above 7000'. We probably will need indoor seating if dining after dark. The Boathouse Cantina looks fun, also! I digress to the locals though. Any place this group goes will be fun beerchug.gif

I was stoked for this trip as well...the Colorado roads always seem to be some of the best drives. We've had a busy summer, but the Fall suddenly got a lot busier so I'll let my room go. If anyone still needs one, it'll be available tomorrow and I'll see you all next September. Have fun y'all!

When I called them directly for a room I asked about trailer parking. They said if its full they had an agreement with the bank across the street for extra parking and its already been approved. So we may have truck and trailers next to each other across the street.

Jim, Bob,
Just got off the phone with the Silver Lodge about the trailer parking. I told them it would be from Thursday until Sunday and there will be at least 3 rigs and possibly more. They assured me that it would be fine. As I see it here are our options.

1- park in their lot if room is available.
2- park at the bank lot across street (already approved by them and the bank).
3- park at their sister property down the road (extra large lot according to them).

That's a bummer @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=26444. Not sure how to interpret this but please let us know how surgery goes whether it's on a clutch, an ankle, or a clutch ankle. Hopefully not your own ankle.

2 weeks. When preflighting I realized that I needed to do an oil and filter change since I would most likely put 3000 miles on it this trip alone. So stoked, so ready. This was my 1st 914 gathering in 2010. Slits did his fire dance and my phone was passed around to take pic's of some willing ladies upper attributes, if you will. My wife never believed I was an innocent bystander. Thx a lot guys. I busted Jim B's lungs that trip. happy11.gif I drove my 76 after a brief 9 month refresh but threw caution to the wind thinking "what could possibly go wrong"! Ed aka ejm hitched my psg seat and told me more about my car than I knew about it. Lots of water has passed under that bridge since then but the same great folks, sans Ron aka Slits, haven't. Looking forward to another great reunion. beerchug.gif

To many of you LA guys getting taken out by injuries, take it easy out there.

Wishing for a speedy recovery.

Mark is having his surgery on left ankle today. Dr says the good news is this kind of break repair has almost 100% Success. Mark is going to be healing for 4 months.

Damn sorry to hear this,
But I have an idea, although it does include Mark sitting on you lap Bob. You can work the pedals and Mark can do the shifting (I'm hoping your shoulder is better).
In all seriousness, I'm praying for a speedy recovery. We'll see you guys on the next one.

Whew! Thought I would have to cancel at the last minute. Let me back up a few days. Thursday I put her on the rack to check the usual things and noticed a drop of gas hanging from the belly pan. It appeared to be coming from one of the tank nipples. dry.gif I thought I'd just tighten it from below Saturday morning shades.gif So yesterday morning I started it to see if I could find the exact location of the leak and almost stromberg.gif in my shoes when a large puddle of gas poured from beneath. So I pulled the almost empty tank (on the R side) enough to see that the return hose had almost separated from the SS line. I found that I had not gotten the hose far enough onto the SS line and that the hose clamp was tightened on the wrong side of the bulbous flare. I'm lucky it hadn't blown off a long time ago. I remembered pushing, read fighting, the hose back to the bulkhead grommet that the 2 SS lines pass thru. What I'd missed was that the SS line had pushed back also. So this time I pulled the SS line out a few inches and clamped it with some needle nose vise grips to hold it in place while I shoved the hose over that bulbous flare using 2 clamps this time. That evening I realized that I'd never removed the vise grips so back out to the garage for a "rinse & repeat". headbang.gif So Saturday morning I run down to the gas station, filled up and noticed my gas pressure was indicating 70psi. WTF.gif Now what! So this morning I replaced the filter, no change; checked the pressure with another gage which read the same 70psi; pulled fuel hoses in the engine compartment and had the same readings and began pulling out my hair. I drained the now full tank and raised the R side once again to check the hose clamps and tank nipples for leaks when I spotted the self inflicted problem. Years ago I installed long pieces of hose to make inspections and repair easier that fighting those short factory hose lengths. There was one short area that wanted to crimp so I slid a 6" piece of radiator hose over that area so that it wouldn't crimp. That short piece had moved and I didn't notice it when I raised the tank the day before. This time I slid a 2' section over it so it wouldn't happen again. Pressure now at 44 when idle once again. cheer.gif See ya'll Thursday.

Kent,
Glad you got it taken care of and up and running, but now I'm feeling a bit nervous. I've been spending more time with my VWs than the 914 as of late. I'll be taking the 914 to a Labor Day / cars and coffee at Hoover Dam (100 mile trip) this morning. Then on the lift to inspect for road worthyness before heading to Colorado. See you, Josh, Adelita and John in Mesquite Wednesday morning.

I had that same issue when I replaced all the fuel lines last year. The new ethanol lines are softer and will take the path of least resistance. I kinked one of the lines. Cost me changing My fuel pump, filter and accumulator before I discovered the issue. dry.gif

For all those trailering to Salida: Shirlee talked with the manager of the bank across the street from the hotel today. They are NOT cool with oversized vehicles from the hotel parking in the bank lot, and don't know where the hotel got that idea.

We made arrangements to park in a storage place by the airport. I will ask her and post the contact info tomorrow.

QUOTE(bkrantz @ Sep 8 2026, 08:57 PM) *

For all those trailering to Salida: Shirlee talked with the manager of the bank across the street from the hotel today. They are NOT cool with oversized vehicles from the hotel parking in the bank lot, and don't know where the hotel got that idea.

We made arrangements to park in a storage place by the airport. I will ask her and post the contact info tomorrow.

Well that’s a bummer since I called the motel directly to ask for us guys who are towing and that’s the answer I was given. Sorry if I (the motel) misinformed anyone. Hopefully there will be room for us all, if not I may be with Bob by the airport.
