Who has installed a wing on their 914 and how did you do it? Can the uprights be mounted outboard of the trunk lid? Any experience with the wings offered by GT Racing? I am talking about a functional wing 72" wide, not a cosmetic one. I would like to access my trunk where the battery and my ignition modules live without disassembling the wing to get there (the trunk lid is a lift-off FG and not hinged). TIA.

just exactly how fast do you plan to run your 914?
A wing won't do squat until over around 70 mph IMO and then only in corners, if you don't plan to take corners above 70 mph a wing will make you vulnerable to being labeled a poser or ricer (same thing).

Hi Steve,

I purchased a Carbon Fiber Wing from GT Racing that I put on my 914 2.7 6 cylinder track car and really like it. The car has been sold but I kept the wing for my new project which will have a 3.6 in it.

I attached the wing with gussets to the inner trunk area and notched my F/G rear lid to make it slide on and off. The GT Racing wings can be drilled for your preference in angle. I chose 0, 3, and 7 degrees. My goal was to have high speed oversteer and low speed oversteer. I tried lots of testing at Laguna Seca, Sears Point, Thunderhill and Buttonwillow and I have to say I really like the feel of the wing. There is a noticeable difference in feel and handling by changing the angle of the wing.

Here are a few pics of how it was mounted. I hope it helps.

Have Fun!

Bill P.

This is my favorite 914 wing. This is from Roger Sheridan's page, if you need info, I bet he can direct you to the owner. I know it races in SoCal POC.

Thanks, Bill and to all who responded. It sounds like you are pleased with the performance of the GT Racing wing. I cound not find any details about the specific performance numbers like efficiency, drag, etc. In fact I could not find many other sources for wings. Anybody have more sources?

On fast tracks like Willow Springs I find that I am dancing around a lot particularly in turns 8 and 2. How much straght line speed do you give up when you install a wing? I want to break the 1:30 barrier at Willow and think I need a wing to do it.

If you want wing with real data backup, check http://www.pennon.com or Crawford, Fabcar also makes a wing

The above mfgs. can provife naca #'s, lift and drag etc..

I have a GT racing wing, I asked Hank what the lift coefficient for his wing is and he couldnt tell me.

Also bring your wallet..the Fabcar wing is about $1500

It looks like nine 14cats went with the 60 inch wing. Which one do you use, Tim?

Posted by: TimT Sep 18 2005, 05:57 PM

I have a 60 in wing, and a narrower one that is the wing element from a 911 tail.

is this really what you meant to say ?

oops...meant to say "high speed understeer and low speed oversteer"....high speed oversteer normally gets me too excited for my own good... laugh.gif
