All 74 and earlier 914-4 cars came with Porsche Part Number

311 906 091 D ...........

The number you have is probably a VW number.

If you are buying a replacement........

I replaced the fuel pump on my '75 1.8 with a pump from Summit. It had the same specs, same size, and was less than half the price. Only difference was the output hose nipple was about 1/16" smaller. It's been working great. I'll tell you more if you're interested.

Factory manual sez:
70-74 == 0 580 463 009
75-76 == 0 580 463 010

Doesn't matter if they're D-jet or L-jet, same pump.

These numbers may have been superceded by now, though. But heck, as long as the pump can deliver 50 PSI and 12.5 gal/hour, it'll work fine.

I think this is the one I'm using:
http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=partdetail.asp&autofilter=1&part=MSD%2D2225&N=400122+4294925239+4294836965&autoview=sku

Also, I think it was the big end (inlet) that was a smidge smaller than the orignial instead of the output I said earlier.

0 580 256 996 is NOT a good Boschnumber. The 311 906 091 D is the VW/Porsche part number for the early pump. The part you need is 61 316, the new number for the Vanagon, bus, and 75-79 bug. Even if you have an early car, a little replumbing and a new filter will get you on the road, and it's waaaaaaay cheaper than the early (and NLA, for the most part) pump. I would even risk a used one, as they rarely fail. Just don't buy one that's been sitting for a long time. The Cap'n
