What are you doing HOME so early... get back to work!

Posted by: ClayPerrine Oct 14 2005, 02:35 PM

I did have some fun on the way home...

I had a guy in a silver Carrera GT flash his lights and wave at me.

And some guy in a Ford almost rear ended the car in front of him trying to see what my car was.... wink.gif

This is the company's way of paying me back for sitting in a hotel room in a strange city. If I am in town and not on a job with a customer, I can leave at noon.

Hey Clay, I will volunteer to help R/R your alternator if you want. I will be busy celibrating my daughter's baptism on Sunday but maybe Saturday, or even this evening on the removal. I'm not sure if I mentioned it to you or not, but when I was replacing ground wires on the back of my alt the other day, I started looking at how hard it would be without pulled the entire engine...I really think it's do-able. Not fun I know.. but I'm willing to lend a hand.

Give me a call if you want me help you out on this, I'd be glad to. Also, I have that Bosch alternator in my garage that needs to be rebuilt if you want it. Have it rebuilt while you remove your blown one, to save some time. Come to think of it..maybe you shouldn't have picked it up yesterday, it might have voodoo-ed you sad.gif . Anyway, let me know.

First thing I did. It's visible with the v-rib setup I have and it's still in place.

Plus the light comes on and goes off at random intervals.

I am going to try a new voltage regulator first.......

Miles,

No worries about the jokes.

Actually, after 6 or 7 hours, it's kinda funny. But I was really pissed at the time.....

Now I just want it fixed so I can drive the bloody thing!

Posted by: redshift Oct 14 2005, 09:39 PM

Yes.. I hate it when it breaks... but I fix it.

Sounds like a fun job! smilie_pokal.gif dry.gif

Soo.. I went and got the proper regulator for the marchal alternator I have on my six yesterday. I finally got to install it this morning.

No joy. Still just the battery voltage, no charge from the alternator.

So tomorrow I am off to Zims to purchase a new alternator.

Now to figure out how to put it in without pulling the whole engine.

Thanks, but I don't think it would make it running on just the battery.

I think there was an article here somewhere on how to remove the alternator on a six without pulling the motor.

Gotta search for it.

Good luck Clay, I know I saw that thread too..

Soon, you'll be back out on the road, eating gallons of petrol, at 3.98 a gallon!

Kim Knutilla did a really good thread - it's in the Classics section.

You own a 914, there is no end.

Posted by: Brando Oct 18 2005, 11:31 AM

I think the best way...

Pull the intake manifolds and fuel lines

Unbolt the cooling plastic on top of the motor

Undo the strap holding the alternator onto the top.

Getting to the wires of the alternator is the tricky part.
