914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Brand of Piston Rings?

Posted by: davep Oct 15 2005, 04:26 PM

Some years ago I bought a set of rings for my 2.0 4 cyl. They are Goetze brand, made in Germany. I haven't even opened the boxes yet to look at them, so I don't know any details. I was planning on using them on an engine with the used set of Euro P&C I purchased from Jake. Are they safe to use?

In checking past topics I found Jake recommended Hastings brand. Both Grant and Total Seal are specifically warned against using.

first of all, I would make damn sure they fit right or rather are the proper set for those pistons. There are several types of Euro's made over the years and the rings lands can differ.

Goetze is standard equipment for stock pistons.. They should work fine... Hastings are not available for the std 94mm piston.

Thanks, that make me very happy. I guess I'll have to check about the various Euro piston varieties. I didn't know there was variations.

One time I bought Deves rings. I could barely compress the oil control ring. The force required seemed excessive, so I brought them to Bieker engineering for their opinion. They said the Deves were a severe ring and called them "honemasters". So I bought Goetz rings.
