There's no way that the wheels were painted that way originally, they had to be dipped to get the pattern, which explains the lack of paint on the back of the spokes. I often thought that the easiest way would be to find an appropiate sized bucked, enough paint, and simply dip them to the correct depth. No masking and a perfect line every time.
I've never seen a picture or heard from anyone who ever saw them painted at Fuchs, but any other way that this would have been possible on a production line?
I just assumed that the wheels where entirely painted, then the front was sanded/buffed off the petals.
Lack of paint on the rear is simple with a stand that blocks off the holes in the wheels.
