CHANGE OF PLANS
OK, weather too much. 90% chance of rain Friday with lows in the 20's Saturday night for Frazier Park. ICE!!!! We'll do it again in the Spring.
Plan B:
9:14am Meet at Gelson's Market in Calabasas. This is the normal start place for Pelican runs, so if you've been there...
Leave there 10am.
Mulholland past Rock Store to Rte 23 (AKA Westlake Blvd and Decker Canyon) Left to PCH.
PCH Right to Neptune's Net restaurant. They don't open that early, but p'lot is good place to regroup.
Leave there, head back to Mulholland Hwy (Just past the LA county line sign)
Left on Mulholland Left on 23. Stay on 23 north where it separates from Mulholland and head down the hill. Left on Hampshire Rd, follow it under Fwy. Middle lane, cross Thousand Oaks Blvd into Tommy's parking lot.
Please print and bring witcha.

sounds fun.
BUT - say before the Bradhole swap and hangout in SD.
ill let you know.
Looks good,.. now to get my car sorted by then...
Already opting out -- friday is a normal workday.
How about running the other way? Fillmore to Gorman. I'd be up for that...
QUOTE (Howard @ Nov 7 2005, 11:38 PM) |
Great roads, not much CHP, 100+ miles. |
I'd be all for the 26th
Seems to me, that a good portion of Lockwood Valley Road is pretty desolate.....good for a fun run, not good if you need help. Interesting drive.
Andys
Sounds like fun to me. If I can get my shifting problems sorted out I'll bring the 914, otherwise it will be the TT...
-Tony
Do cell phones work throughout the way?
Combo of Brad's swap meet, people going out of town, and Friday after TG a working day for some, how about the following week. Saturday, 12/2 sound better?
Sounds good;I'm in
Fine by me
Count me in if I'm back up and running...
Saturday is the 3rd. Daughters Birthday party...
I'm out.
Any track fees?

I don't think I have any plans... so I'm really looking forward to the drive the only thing that might hold me up is if my girls (the ones I hired to run my karaoke show) flake on me and I have to work late night.

Allan, if we do it Sunday will you come? Or another lame ass excuse |

If it's Sunday I can make it.... |
Friday 11/25 is best for me with no apparent conflict with Brad's SM on Saturday 11/26. Next choice for me is Saturday 12/3. Sunday 12/4 is not so good for me. Let's see which day works out best...

Hmmm, looks to be around 420 or so miles roundtrip...
Think I may have to sit this one out, a weeks mileage in one day might not be best for the 170K miles 1.7
Maybe next time.
Have fun fella's
Thanks for the date catch, Brando. Start point will be the always lovely Flying J Truck Stop. Gas, food, store.

I should be in if someone wants ~200 lbs of dead weight riding shotgun. My 914 wont be done by then.
I think Aaron is my copilot thus far. But if he copps out due to missing his baby in mexico you can ride shotgun Matt.
OK, so it's looking like Saturday 12/3, I should be there. Next question, what time?
edit: I just went and checked out the starting post, we meet at 9:14 at the Flying J...
Eric
very good. 12/3 is much better!
I guess I will meet everybody at the Flying J and watch you guy's dissapear into the hills...
Just a quick bump..
12/3?
i think im out thus far.

Look at first page Was planning for lunch at Elkins, but we could do it in Ojai. Who do we know who lives there? |
Not sure if 150 from Ojai to Santa Paula is open... tried to go through there on a bike a few months back and it was still closed (landslide took out the road)
I'm game.
BJH
Elkins ranch is a nice place for lunch.....end of run. The 150 from ojai to santa paula is open...but there are a few stop lights in single lane areas that slow you down. Howard is our leader
I have been informed 12/3 is the formal dinner get-together for my local PCA. Board members are required attendance Sorry guys, won't make the Triptophan run
Gonna go and scope out the portion from Elkins Ranch to Ojai this AM to check road conditions and avoid chores around the house. It's a dirty job, etc.
See updated first post.
As per the first post.. I'll be there! Jes has final exams soon, so she won't be coming. I'll have an open seat as well.
-Tony
I'll be there, and I'll try and drum up some the 914 guys local to me that don't post much. Would anyone be offended if I invite a Farrari guy? just kidding I'm doing it anyway...
See you there...
-Mike D.
I was in, had a co-pilot and every thing. The wife came in this morning and said "there's green stuff leaking out of your car..." Soooo, it looks like the radiator is going back to Rod Simpsons Rads....again. Did I say already? Sad part is that the rad works great, just doesn't keep the coolant where I put it.
I'm out for this one, hope I can get the car turned around by x-mas.
Eric
uhh... may be a change of date or location.

Yeah, that would be me. Gorman is the start of the run and we would be going into the mountains from there to about 3000' higher. Was it 4 degrees per thousand feet? 31-12=

I'm praying for a delay so I can get my car to "reliable" standards...
Damn - stupid weather....
I cant make it this weekend
Free bump
have fun!
I'm booked solid for the next two weeks with my 2 year olds B-Day this weekend and my daughters performing in the "Nutcracker" next weekend. Plus, Grandma and Grandpa are visiting.
Plus, i'm smack dab in the final coding of my next software release that i have to get done before XMAS.
see ya next year!
Come'on you guys....BE MEN! I'm coming from Ojai thru Lockwood Valley to the start point at 730AM...with the top off. Barring heavy rain(I''l come if it snows), I'll be there at 9:14 am. How big are your huevos? Howie is our fearless leader...right Howard?
I'll be at the fastest road in the west, Willow Springs. Have a good time, that's a real nice route.
Aaron, what time are you leaving? I'm down in Elsinore so I can follow you up.
My god.... just check out the route on Google Earth.... Good choice.
--Alex
So are we still on or are yall fair weather teeners?
Think of it as an "acid test" for your heater
BJ(crazy enough to still go if it's snowing)H

I will still be putting Rain-X on the wind shield...
Be there with Bells On...Or at least a jacket and hat..

I'm there as well...

Waiting till the last minute on this. Cold is OK, but if it rains Friday night and drops to 20f in the mountains Saturday morning, could have a problem with 914 Hockey on the roads.
This group can barely stay on the road in the dry
Stay tuned for last minute developments. We can always do the Mulholland to the beach to Ojai to Fillmore.
Change of Plans!
See first page.
Howard's beach route is nice. I've driven it a couple of times (trying hard to keep up with him). Even if it goes that way you won't be disappointed.

So I guess I should share a story from today...
As we were starting out, the whole group of us passed by Mr. CHP writing a ticket to a motorcycle rider. We weren't screaming, but we might have been exceeding the limit
Anyway, he finished writing the ticket pretty quickly and was behind us. I think everyone pretty much prdicted this would happen, so we slowed down to avoid getting any souvenirs.
He proceeded to advance up the group, tailing each of us for a few seconds and finally passed Howard in the lead car and set up on the road ahead a ways, facing traffic, radar on. As we stopped at the view point, a motorcyclist coming from the other way informed us of the trap. We managed to slow down a couple guys before getting caught as they went by. The second group of riders seemed to think our "slow down" hand movement meant "rev it buddy!" so who knows what happened to them...
Sure enough as we passed the cop doing 25, he just had to sit there and watch.
Unfortunately, Slits wasn't there to entertain the local law enforcement. We did talk about him though, so the legend of Slits at WCC05 hasn't died.
Apaprently we have all learned from his misfortune..
-Tony
right in my backyard and forgot!
looks like fun homies.....
ill be there next time
Where's the rest of the pix???
Yeah, I saw a preview of a picture where Mr. CHP is right on my rear bumper. I want to see the fullsize
Lots of good shots-in-motion as well...
-Tony
I just left Chuck a message about the pictures he and the wife were taking. Saturday afternoon he said he's got about 250 and needs to resize the good ones because they're all like 8 mega pixel images or something like that.
He has printed some pics from ALMS races that were poster size big and you couldn't tell they were from a digital camera. Nice...
Mike, thanks for bringing them. Great couple. They can download a bulk photo resizer http://www.showyourphotos.com/ that's free to try. Works well and can convert them all to 640x480 with one click.
I can host them at my site if you like, so let me know.
I just don't get on this board enough... missed a nice local run... but the story of CHP and Mike D's name bring back memories of a run Mike came on with me up in the Santa Clarita area. Not sure where Mike was in the pack, but we were all traveling a bit fast when we came up over a blind hill that quickly revealed the end of our road at a T intersection and a CHP sitting right at the T. There were some screeching tires and even some cars coming around other cars to avoid an accident but thankfully and amazingly, no response from the Chippy.
Can't say that much for the next run I was on with Mike... we were on our way to a D&G swapmeet and we got pulled over together. Mike had been following me and I think the CHP gave him a bigger $$ ticket for "driving too close" behind me... or maybe it was something Mike said :-)
Looks like you all had fun.
- Dave
I remember that T-junction and the screeching tires. It was nearly a 914 pileup.
Dave: Another group run up in your neighborhood would be a lot of fun! hint hint...
