should the car wear one for function, looks, or both?
or not at all?

It will ruin your paint if you leave it on in the rain.

Actually, you will note a difference in the paint colors after a period of time, as the uncovered part is exposed to UV.

Secondly, unless it is real tight, the flapping will scratch it too.

Is that serious enough for you? I had one and tossed it..........

There was a thread a long time ago, in a far away galaxy, called the 914world.com, about a stickon film, transparent that could protect against rock chips and deer dung. I believe it was touted for race cars.......

To the Millenum Falcon..................................and away!

I KNOW you saw Betty's post in Calendar thread....Now that's my kind of Bra, and it's even on a 914! smilie_pokal.gif

Posted by: nyum96 Nov 10 2005, 12:37 PM

I use one for trips or highway use (colgan-carbon fiber). Do take it off. My other car had it on in the rain and such. You will get a line(outline from the portion on the hood) int he paint after a while of it sitting in the rain and sun (months). Mine went a way though. Keep the hood waxed and that will help too.

If you live in a high construciton area and use the highway, use it. If the car stays in the garage and sees little rain, use it. Also depends on the maker. A poorly constructed one will flap in the wind and dont get the ones that use velcro

As you and others know, my car wears a bra. It also lives in the garage where it does not fade. I don't use it all of the time, but I do use it a lot.

In the winter here, when we have nice days good for 914s, it protects from the residual gravel on the roads.

I like mine.

If it's tight, it won't flap.

If your car is clean (and you keep it that way) it won't scratch.

This subject will get Betty riled up!!!

She contends that they are "Masks" not "Bras".

A "Bra" supports and lifts. A "Mask" just covers.

If your car needs a "Bra" on the front end, it's got some serious rust problems. av-943.gif

BTW... Lisa, dont' worry about the jerks here with the bandaid jokes. With your dancer legs, you should do a calendar pict of your leg as you get out of a 914 in a slit-up-the-side black skirt, wearing killer stilettos and stockings with the line down the back!!!

I use a bra only for long trips on the freeway where I may be more susceptible to thrown rocks etc. - fits fine and is usable at night with the headlights (lots of room for jokes here but I will resist). PM me if you want some pics.

Mask works good.
1. Keep it clean
2. Do not use in the rain
3. Must fit tight--if it flaps it will ruin your paint
4. Keep air from getting under it or it will flap
5. Pain in the ass to fill up tank

I've got a brand new in the box Colgan for the later style bumpers, if you are interested pm me.

I like to use a mask (bra) on a long trip, and in the spring when bugs are bad, but not all the time. Handy to help keep the front clean, as needed.

Just my .02

Up close and personal. I could have spent a little more time fine-tuning the adjustment; it really fits quite well (the car I mean). BTW - its a Colgan.

Bras on 914's are horrid.
Bras on hooters ..... Well either way is OK. dry.gif

I'm trying to find the picture. Back when I hosted the 914 breakfast in Chicagoland a fellow teener, Dennis Roberts came with his 914 and it has a bra/mask/cover thingy that completely covered just the front trunk lid. It looked good and if I remember correctly it was item you could get from the Porsche dealer back in the day.

Dennis if you are lurking here please post a pic or email it to me and I will post it.

what's the general consensus on bras?  i have one, but have never put it on my car.   rolleyes.gif

yea or nea ? idea.gif

should the car wear one for function, looks, or both?
or not at all?

Actually,Instead of calling it a bra they should call it a diaper.Thats what they remind me of. But instead of keeping stromberg.gif in it,it keeps it out!! Thank you.. ohmy.gif

So, I don't like bras on 914's. I simply don't think they work, Aesthetically or functionally. I had one on my first 914 back in 1980. Water gotin there and caused a big white spot on the paint. Have you considered a ClearBra? They can be expensive but, if you have a nice car with a nice paint job it’s worth considering.

Posted by: meares Nov 12 2005, 05:53 PM

armour-fend makes a "clear-bra" too... my dad uses it on his GT3 RS for the endurance races....works REAL WELL in the rolex24...so it'll do fine on our '14s!!!!! beerchug.gif
