At a more northern location this time, the IHOP in Foster City, 531 Foster City Blvd Foster City CA 94404 (650) 573-8887. Starting time will be the usual 9:14AM, though I'm sure we'll be loitering in the parking lot for quite some time.

Thanks for taking the initiative on this James. I should be there!
I'll be there. Hopefully I'll be driving a 914.
count me in. maybe even in my 914 propelled by fiid's old motor ...
Andy
should we nail this?
I'm a definite maybe
Whoa! Thread switch...tricky...
I should definitely maybe be there, sans 914 though.

I'm planning on being there - missed the last one! May be the last one with Ol'Yeller - its for sale now.
Hi everyone,
I wish I could join you for lunch but we will be finishing up a run in the Corvette from Flagstaff (via Route 66 most of the way across the desert) up Highway 1 to Carmel; across to I-5 and back to Flagstaff. Someday will make this trip to San Jose in a 914-6 GT/916 Replica.
Hope everyone has a great time. Will be thinking of you guys and gals.

Mind if I come along? I'd love to finally meet some other 914 owners. Would it be ok for my brother and dad to come along in their cars as well? Let me know. Thanks
-Chris
More the merrier. Lots of people show up in their "other cars", since the natural state of a 914 is to be on jackstands. If we only showed up in our 914s, hardly anyone would show!
Haha well if my car is still up and running by then I'll be in it along with my dad and brother in their cars. Here's mine

I'll try and make it, but most probably without the teener (almost there though).
Wife Aunt passed away. I'll be in Seattle. Catch you folks next time. Thanks.

Is there a funrun scheduled with this event?
I thought you were in charge of the Patrick.
I'm pretty sure none has been scheduled but I'm sure one could be arranged.....
A funrun would make the cheese more binding.
Let's say HWY 92 west to 1/2 moon bay and 1 south to Santa Cruz for margaritas on the S-Cruz wharf? Or hwy 92 west to Skyline to Los Gatos.
I've been mentally gearing up to pull my motor and hand over my "roller"
to McMark for hell hole repair. If a fun run is in the works I'll just have to
procrastinate a little longer. Oh well...
Count me in for the breakfast either way, although a little drive before
"winter project time" would be "just the ticket".
If we go to santa cruz I'll have to pass, cooking for a dinner party later that nite...as an alternative to hwy 92 consider a left at skyline and a right at hwy 84 to the coast and then up hwy one or down stage road to pescadero, more twisties and less traffic and PD....could end up at Princeton and load up on crab....just my .02.....
I like Jim's suggestion... Hope my car is up to this I'm probably going to show up in the Miata if it rains though - hope that doesn't happen.
Jim,
That would be a great route and I would be in for buying crabs from the boats at Princeton Harbor.
Hmm. Here I was thinking I'd get off easy by picking a spot close to the house for the meet, and now it looks like I may actually have to get my car running properly first...
A drive after sounds fun! I say let's do it!
-Chris
OK, I just had another thought...do we want to do a "Toys for tots" thing with this "event" as well, there must be a convenient fire station we could drop them at...with publicity pics for the board....and a warm fuzzy feeling for the gang...or we could help out by passing the hat for the family in the Pacific NW on the other thread, that would be morphenspectras thread, or topic, or whatever the hell it's called. Or we can keep it simple....we do simple pretty well I'd say.....
So what are the final plans everyone? This breakfast is coming up soon! Let me know. Thanks
-Chris
Thanks for the bump, this had slipped my mind. Marty, don't pull that motor yet. I'm absolutely BURIED right now. I'm working LONG days to catch up though.
Far as I know, it's still on as planned: 9:14 on the 10th at the IHOP in Foster City. There's some talk of a run afterwards. I should say that Hwy 92 W of 280 is a parking lot on weekends, so I'd avoid that stretch. I'll probably not tag along on the run, as it's looking unlikely my 914 will be running by then.
I'll bump this again later in the week...

Thanks for the reminder. I can make breakfast sans GTEENER. McMark & Brandon got her on Saturday to continue her make-over
I definitely won't be driving the 914 this weekend, as I managed to smash my hand moving wheels around in the garage, so I didn't get any of my planned work done on it. It remains a "wireless" 914...
Maybe I'll ride my new scooter up...
My 914 is currently within a mile of the IHOP in question.
Company party Saturday, have a pancake for me.
for Brett F.
Jen
No can do. I'm going to be helping my sister pick out wedding invitations, which is ALMOST as fun.
while you're at it, will you pick one out for me as well?
Jen
We did evites. It was excellent.
conflict with water polo practice on Saturday morning (8a-10a) and no 914 to show off anyway. I'm out for this one I guess.
I'm supposed to meet up with McMark and we'll drive down in his hoopty mobile I'm guessing....bad thing is that of all places to meet up off the freeway up near me Krispy Kreme is the only landmark we know
I'm going to try to make it. I'll probably be tagging along with fiid in his porscharu.
So, the lineup appears to be:
me
mcmark
mueller
fiid
jkeyser
andy
wattage boy
nate
hammy
tom trudell
chris
mikey
jimtab
marty
jenny?
brian?
I think a couple more have spoken to me about coming off list.
18 so far. I'll call IHOP to warn them, so they can get some extra oil dry for the parking lot.
Maybe.... I still have to grout on saturday. Plus prime and paint downstairs bathroom.
I'll discuss it with the other half tonight. Pancakes do sound good, and it'll give me an excuse to wash the teener for calender pictures.
Jen
+DD, most likely.

Shit! I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it in my car. I was just driving around and a loud noise just started happening as mentioned in my post. I'm really worried about the car, so I don't think I'll be able to make it for the breakfast on saturday. Sorry guys.
-Chris
James, I intend to arrive early but unfortunatly can't stay for breakfast. I need to be in Cupertino at 10:00am.
See you in the lot for coffee.
You folks do realize you don't have to show up in a 914, right? I showed up in my CRX for years... Might even do it again for this one, though due to logistics (which car is parked where) rather than car problems.
--DD
Yeah, but Dave, you had a special exemption, right.....I mean that was the understanding....
On second thought, not sure if I'm up to it - I'll likely have the only 914 in attendance - what fun is that?

Looks like I won't be able to make it after all.
I got stuck with the weekend pager at work. Have fun. Maybe I'll be able to drive the teener to the next one.
Which one am I and which one is Mike? I can't tell.
Fees SHAWTY, fees.
You're on the right (with the hair)
It's looking like there are no barriers to bringing the car.
I did loose my little silencer insert jobbie so it's louder than uh .. a 914.. but it's still quiter than anything made by Harley ever, so I don't think I'll get arrested for noise pollution.
I'm in, I can even bring the 914. This will be it's longest drive so far.
Hey Mike - I will bring the computer stuff with me.
Steve
Everyone remember to buy new wiper blades today!
i'll be a tad late, won't make it until 10:15ish ...

I'm sure we'll be there past 10:30. I have nothing until noon-ish, and several people seem to want to do a run afterwards to the coast. I'd be surprised if we actually sit down before 10, based on past experience.

Weather looks dry for tomorrow - touch wood.

That seemed very successful to me. About 16 people showed, along with 6 914s, and the weather was excellent.
Fiid brought his turbo Soob powered 914, which was running better by the time he left than it was when he showed up. Congrats to Jeff (jkeyser) for sussing out an ignition problem.
Jeff Bowlsby arrived in his fake LE "grasshopper" (as opposed to his real LE "bumblebee").
Most of the usual suspects arrived: McMark, DD, Mueller, Gwen, Tom, Jon. Nice to see everyone again.
I didn't bring a camera, but there were a few around, and I'm sure photos will be up soon.
I'm heavily biased on the location (I live about 2 miles away), but it appeared to work out well, so perhaps it should go into rotation as a regular site for breakfasts, along with the Santa Clara IHOP, and the San Jose McD's. Perhaps we need to find an acceptable location in the East Bay, too?
Agreed on the location (and I live in San Jose). Nice change of scenery, easy access to the highway, etc.
And there's another IHOP at the east bay side of the Dumbarton bridge I believe. We had eats there once when Brad was living in the neighborhood.
Great job James. Nice to see everybody but Andy, he never showed up. He's probably busy hugging his new engine.

Awesome. Turns out the problem with my car wasn't the tach - it was dodgy crimping.... grrr.
Anyways - Hope to have many more breakfasts in the new year with runs attached to them
Here's some pics: This is Jim's car - he had his paint and body done in TJ, and it looks awesome.

Great time at IHOP today.
FIID reminded me what this whole car hobby is about - having fun with our cars. It looked like kids in a candy store while everyone looked on while the megasquirt was being tuned in the parking lot.
Some of the talk went along the lines of "I love the K-jet system" ---- "yeah but K-jet is about as sophisticated as a lawn sprinkler" --- "that's why I like it" --- "most of us like these old cars because they don't have computers in them and look at that" (points at FIID's laptop)
I loved it.
When is the next one????
Next month . Now my car is running I want to make sure these things happen - we have a really cool group of people here in the bay area - let's make sure there's plenty of opportunities to hang out!
Yes!!!
Fiid, thanks for the kind words about my car and for the great pics... It was great to see everyone...if you haven't been to one of these gatherings you're missing out.
Welcome to Ed Davila....and his most excellent 1973 1.7 Zambezi car...

What, like I have any extra?!
I need every piece I have for the Fabio look-a-like contests. I'm a national champ!
thanks for putting this together James....
even without a 914 to drive the breakfast, it is still a joy to kick tires and admire/make fun of other 914s and thier owners
Fiids car sounded pretty darn good once he figured out the little electrical glich....at idle the car was not loud, yet it had low frequences that actually made it feel like it was shaking the ground...very cool
cannot wait till you sort it out and start giving demo rides.....
I think the location is GREAT. And I live about 2 mins from the other IHOP! I think a rotation between 2 or 3 locations would be terrific.
I leave it to others to decide on an East Bay location. I'd say somewhere in Berkeley or E-ville would be ideal, perhaps as far south as San Leandro. Combined with Foster City and Santa Clara, that should cover the bases very nicely for a regular gathering, plus some special meets 1-2 times per year in, say, Napa so McMark and Trekkor could show up w/o having to drive over 100 miles.
Trekkor doesn't show up unless there's timers, cones and flags involved.
Jen

How loud are these mufflers?
I was thinking of getting 2 for my /6
QUOTE (Marty Yeoman @ Dec 12 2005, 03:45 PM) |
I hate to say it Jon, but in that picture you kind of look like a light bulb. |
Uh - It's quite loud. There's an insert which causes some backpressure and quiets the output down to a bearable level. I also have a turbo between this and the engine. I think without the turbo it would be deafening.
I'm sure the 3" stainless steel trombone doesn't help too terribly much on the noise front either.
To be more quantitative - my car without the insert will make *some* car alarms chirp when I drive past.
The muffler wasn't too bad BUT, Fiid has one of the most efficient mufflers on earth upstream of that: a turbo. Without the turbo, I expect it would have been way too loud.
The reason GTEENER wasn't at IHOP this last weekend...
Progress on my Altissimo (Brandon) Napa paint job.
A bit dusty but look at that shine! And all one shade of red again
