914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Wheel Offset Question

Posted by: joea9146 Dec 1 2005, 11:23 AM

What is Wheel offset? I believe the backspacing is the distance from the back of the hub to the backside of the rim. What is the offset I see different offset for wheels but not sure what it is or how it relates to the design or fitment of the wheel ?

Hi Joe,

Fikse has a good diagram for fitment that shows 'front spacing'and 'back spacing'.

offset is from the hub to the Centerline of the wheel width (not including the lip of the rim)

backspacing takes into account the lip of the rim, offset does not.....

Backspacing = American
Offset = European and a better method I think

Tirerack explains it better.
