Ok,
So Ryan from pimp my ride called today in regards to my email a year ago.. Then I had a -73 beetle.. But I told him i got a new car, a porsche 914.. he said that was fine, casue they havent done any 914's or porsches before.. but now i need you guys's help.. I need to find a Trashed 914 that looks BAD, rust everywhere, missing seats, anything! I need to register it in my name by next week then its a go.. so if you know anything in or around san diego, PLEASE help me out.. since its a car worth $20-30 000 when they are done... and it would be interesting what they could do to a 914.. dont you think?!

im not talking about a true porsche guy... but a guy that will do anything to have a car people recognize.....and u know people in cali will buy one of those "bling rim cars"

well.. the thing is that my beetle looked like the one in the pic above... but i dont wanna trash my 914 just for them to pick it... thats why om looking for one of your guys's abandoned projects.. it doesnt have to run!

I agree you don't want something with a lot of rust. They don't seem to like dealing with rust. But mismatched wheels, shredded interior, tape over lenses, no bumper, things like that are what you are looking for. Also, trashed motor. They might put in a 6 or something, who knows.

You should convince them to make it into the 914 Limo. That way they could put all kinds of electronics in it.

he said they do engines too now.. so if it didnt run... they'd put an engine in... but of course it would be nice with maybe a TIRED 1.7 with 200 miles left on it

Don't like dealing with rust? Yeah, right. I remember the VW split bus they did a while back, they ALMOST cut out all of the rusty metal and then filled in the void with screen mesh and bondo. If thats not dealing with rust, I don't know what is!

They will not fix the rust like they should. Do you remember the VW bus?

I think MIKE D's car would be utterly Perfect!

Tell them to put flares on it, and put wide porsche wheels on it, and do a v8 conversion. They would love doing that. Simple Bolt on stuff.

IF you need, take your drivetrain from your car and put it in this roller and do all the driving stuff. THEN when its at the shop you can take the engine back. Negotiate this will them and I bet they will do it.

they'd have to get a local expert to guide them, but if they did~
i'd ship my car out to you. motor leaks & makes a bad noise, but they'll be able to film it running around. body's good, but i'm pretty sure i've got long' issues. interior's great, but that's easy to make look shitty.

let them make a show.

ship it back with all extracted parts (no sawzall, thanks!... well, maybe some tasty flares...).


i'll pay you $$$$$$. + return shipping.

They only pick young drivers with cars that shouldn't be on the street.

The characters and their work are all about entertainment. Xibit, the host, even laughs at the whole show. I don't like many of the cars but I like that they create new ideas.

I understand your point, free stuff is always good. But I would not expect to get a good running solid 914 out of them if you give them one you picked up for a few hunderd bucks.

What they did to that VW Bus and VW Baja Beetle was not something I would wish on any car.

I got into this hobby to do the repair work myself, sounds to me like you would be better off with a newer ride, not a pimped out 914 that probably won't be that reliable (although when you are broken down I'm sure the xbox360 they install will keep you entertained).

I think they should have a show where they go to these people's house's,take their cars and then crush em,smash em,burn them,whatever they want!! I think that would create more shock value! Just think,you see xibit pull up in front of your house do you think these young hot chicks are gonna run and jump in his arms? Hell no! They are gonna run for the garage door opener to keep him out! He maybe breaks in,steals there keys and drive's it to a chipper!! That's what I'm talking about!

i tried to explain, but i guess its pointless, i want a normal 914, flares, nothing major.. a solid car, casue its a beautiful car.. but if someone give me this car, i'll take. it will run through college, then after when i have the $$$ and time ill be like you. working on my OWN car... No disrespect to any of you guys I know how hard you work... and i'll be just like you guys when i get older.. but for now i'd be stoked for this!

I gather that is what you have been saying anyway. If this falls through, get some friends and family to contact Overhaulin for you. That way you WILL get a solid car with proper werk.

hmmmm you could do a lot worse than havin someone spend 20k on your car
hmmmm 500 for shitbox 20,000 on bolt on acc then 5000 to fix what they didnt

tell me where you could go wrong they give you 20k of stuff at worst you could sell

20in giovanni rims for a 914 would sell fast i bet

they might even use fg panels if yours were to bad

more saleable stuff

just thought i would chime in....

i read a bio of someone who was on pimp my ride..and prettymuch...you CANNOT sell anything off the car, or sell the car...theres alot of legal binding issues that go through...like, if MTV wants to use the car for some promotion or something, then you have to let them use it, you cant sell it or part it for X amount of years...stuff like that, its not just like they give your car back and forget about it

OK, these guys aren't 914 jockeys, maybe not fix everything up to the standards of guys on this board, but they always put awesome wheels on, excellent brakes, sweet paint jobs, lots of electronics, and plenty of thump in the subs. If you don't want to use your car, then use mine.

Let's see, what would I want if they did my car???

- 5 lug wheels with deep dish 16" Fuchs with 40 or 50 series tires.
- flares of course
- Engine: hmm, once they hear and drive my 1.7L, they'd have to put in a /6 or V8 just not to be shamed to call it "Pimped"
- New 916 bumpers front & rear
- Rear Spoiler
- remote rear trunk release
- Completely new interior
- Racing seats
- Roll cage
- Power windows
- New Dash without cracks
- Nice paint job with maybe the 917 Gulf-Porsche powder-blue/orange scheme since I like vintage sports car racing.

My friend Tom was on Pimp My Ride (the old police car) and he sold it about a month after he was on the show(I don't remember how much, but I think it was over $25k). By the way...that show is so entirely set up. My friend lives in Rancho Santa Margarita, down the street from me, and the producers set up a house in Ventura for him so that it would look like he was poor. Also, you all obviously know that the whole Xibit showing up at your door thing is entirely fake.

Another thing that I found funny is that Tom is quite the comedian and apparently he was telling jokes and goofing around and the producers actually told him not to be funny because he was overshadowing Xibit.

The show is a joke. But hey, easy money for us poor 914 owners!

hmm kinda cool I guess, I always wondered what the pimp my ride guys would do to a 914.
I'm scared in a way like, hey we took your nice metal bumpers and took some ultimate pimped out rice bumpers and (almost) made them fit

some potential 'upgrades':
-lamborghini style doors
-huge plasma in the front trunk (I hope they don't put it in the back, it just might melt over the exhaust and the roof wouldn't fit any more)
-small tft's in the headrests for upcoming traffic
-but since they did put the plasma in the back they permanently fixed your targatop and bondo'd it in (916 look) and then they put a sunroof in the targa.
-then the front trunk is available for huge amps and speakerboxes
-various glasfibre bodyparts are added
-huge chrome spinners
-leather everywhere in the interiour

yeah I can see this happening

But I guess my curiosity is stronger than my fear, so please keep us informed on this story

So.....
Yesterday me and my friend Jason took the trip up to O.C to Dan B's house... It was a bumpy ride (blown shocks) and also a challange for the feet.. No idle at All.. so LA traffic was Great!

Anyhow, after a couple of hours we had excanged some parts (trunk,decklid,doors,enginecover) and my car now looks like it runs.. I took some photos of it and boy do i get some weird looks now... (although a very cute mom asked what year my Porsche Spider was) haha, well, she tried at least.. then the local Subary community had a get together at an In and Out in Laguna. and they wanted to sell me some engines.. and i wish i had the $$$ right there casue i really need an engine, got some numbers though when its time to switch.. Let me know if you think anything else needs to be done before my casting on sunday...

I was looking to borrow some shitty wheels from someone in the SD area since mine are WAY to good lokin, so if you have any and want some free ones let me know!

Be sure to spraypaint 914world.com on the front hood and the sides really big in a color that will stand out before they get their hands on the car.

Also, take some spray paint, and make sure you spray paint some pannel of the car (dont mask off the tires and everything. unless you have good glass or something) and make sure there are runs in the paint.

It was nice to meet you and Jason this week - glad you made it home OK. If your ride does not get pimped, someone in San Diego needs to come over to diagnose your issues - sorry I was no help.

I was thinking....is there a way to prep a panel to spray paint over it, but have the spray paint removable??? I recall a commercial from a few years ago that advertised a cleaner that would take off spray paint. Anyone have an opinion on this? Good coat of wax?

I dont need to tell them that, all i do is turn on my engine and they'll here it scream or jump.. my engine! It is SO bad it hurts to start it. I have stoped take my targa off just cause its THAT bad!

So my quarter panels and tires are still in TOO good of a shape.. anyone have a solution without messing up the ones i have?! i tried to get my rockers of and front bumper, but no luck there...

update...

I went to the casting today....

It was alot of shitty cars there but basically just cars that have been on the show already. Many hondas etc.. but i was the only one with a porsche..
One of the casting guys came up to me and asked if it was my car.. yea... the he said, Who the F**K wants to pimp a porsche.. haha, well, I do.

There were more than 40 cars there and I made it to round 3 (the final one) they really liked the car and so did everyone else.. but the best part is that they seamed to like me too.. i got a good story going, made some jokes.. They even said that even if your cars was shitty they wouldnt pick you if you didnt have the personality they looked for... And no swedes have been on the show yet..

Anyways, now i just need to wait, they will pick 8 cars total, and i think its a total of 16 cars in round 3 that i was in... 8 from san diego and 8 from santa monica..

This is going to be interesting. I've never seen a 914 where the top swivels up to reveal a 42 inch plasma tv with a latte maker in the center console.

Sweet! Did you see that recent thread of the purple 914 with the gold engine tin? Make sure they don't copy that!


I'm hoping they build a custom leather racing couch to replace the front seats that allows 3 passengers to watch the 50 in wide plasma TV that folds down from targa top. But then would the plasma be removable with the top??

Another pimpin idea would be to go full on G-money South style - lift the entire car to fit 24" chrome rims. This would make it easier for all your hos to get in the car.

hmm...how about reverse hinging the front trunk and placing a huge plasma screen attached underneath the front lid so the people in the car could watch from inside...OOO even better have the steering wheel connected to a steering control console that plays console games...imagine playing GT4, NFSU, or Forza MS from the inside of your own 914

I say convert the trunk to a hot tub and retrofit the rear window for the plasma screen for the x-box and the vids.

Also with room in the under the front hood, another engine can be installed. (having backup engine with these cars is always a good idea.)

ooo! I hope they install a 'chain' steering wheel, and maybe a horn that plays 'Shake dat Ass' by Eminem. Lots of ground effect lights too- it'll be easier to identify where the oil and transmission leaks are coming from that way.

Agreed, I used to own a custom shop, and the work they put out seems shotty at best. Sounds like fun though if you have another teener to let them hack at I would say go for it. However, if you are going to let them "work" on your personal car.... I would consider otherwise.

How about reversing the front trunk so if hinges up to view that giant LCD screen with gaming controls in the stering wheel. There was a toyota or something at the car shows showing that.

It would be interesting what they find to use for wheels- 20 inchers on a teener??

I wish I could tell them that my 914 broke down and I bought another one (a shitty one) casue I like my 914.. although I would like to be on there just to see what they do..

the ironic part is that I get my flares, 916 bumpers and stuff tomorrow.. I was ready to go for my OWN pimp trip.. but I guess i have to hold on a while longer, and maybe get a new one if this one get pimped..

trust me, I will say that I have seen some amazing cars (914) with 3.6 twin turbo and full cage etc etc.. maybe they turn it into a GT2... (they give me a GT2 and let me work on my own car)

I'll let you know when I have been up there.. Talked to them again and they need to see what they can do to it and can't do.. so they have an idea.. (like someone believed that they come up with the ideas in the room just before they do it)

the thing is that I will not use them, when i went to the casting i took everything out.. door panels, seats, the backplate behind the seats.. casue my seats is in PERFECT condition as of now.. I used an old (VERY) recaro seat that i will use again, althouygh driving up to LA in that seat will kill me

Thats crap. Why would you have to be a Citizen? Now if they are going to pay you for being on the show then that could be considered "working," which would only require you to have a visa authorizing work, or permanent residency, but not citizenship.

Chances are if they do pay you it would be like $300 or something. Tell them you'll do it for free. Though they might not accept that. Either way, good luck!

This costs to fix your car would be considered earnings and therefore a taxable event for you. If you are not able to earn money in the USA, then they can't fix your car. They can not give you a "gift." Someone has to pay the tax on that.

oh im already one step ahead of ya...

got $5k from sweden.. not everything can go into the car, but at least 2-3 is already being put in...

I will get it again in aug.. thats when the engine is going in.. im doing body and paint now.. (suspension, wheels)

Just got of the phone with MTV (again I know)
They want me to be on the show (again), and they said they cleared the problem we had last time.. Well, now my car has fresh paint and a rebuilt top end job. Does anyone in So Cal have a car that runs (barely is fine) and takes up to much space? I am willing to pay, not more than $1000 though. It can be no interior, different colored body panels, rust, you name it. If you do let me know.

I am still curious what those guys would do to a 914.. (just not to mine ) I have to show it in LA in 3 weeks or so..

Drove home in my new car today!!

I am surprised no one bought this car before me, its a great solid car. 1970 4cyl. Not much rust at all, not in the hell hole, most of it in the rear trunk. Engine is solid, runs better than my 1.8 ever did. There is no 1st gear though, and all the other gears are sloppy. Other than that, a perfect looking dash, nice seats. All in all a great car, too bad I'm stripping it this weekend

Weather striping on it is excellent, will transfer to my other car, if you need anything? Doors, etc etc let me know.

I bought it for $740, its worth way more than that, and heck I don't even know that much haha..

Oh, BTW the chrome bumpers will be coming off as well, anyone need em?

Speaking of live rats. I bought a 66 912, and I got a call from a shop that I took the car to to have the brakes completely refurbished, they said there is a noise in the car, will you come down and look at it.
Sure enough, open up the smugglers hole and there is a big rat living in the car. Made a nest and is traveling back and forth through the heating tube in the middle of the car.
So I am selling th ecar and I need to ge thte rat out, I try the sticky pads, no good. The I get an elcetronic rat trap. You install two AA batteries, and put peanut butter on the wall at the end of the trap. The rat goes in and licks the peanut butter while stepping on the metal floor of the trap,and ZAP.
