Its only 1 hour away the guy says, Well 2 hours later 4 hours of BS and another 2 hour drive home Eddie now owns this.

At least it doesn't have seven holes like one of my other engines - the seventh hole in the side of #5 cylinder is one I can do without.

Eddie must be keeping his fingers crossed and cant type,
79K (PO lived down a dirt road) Bad fatality wreck,RIP, car is nasty bent.
Guy parting it out ,sells the inj. off the motor, then when pulling motor gets crap down the intake, rocks ,nuts,etc., So Price Reduction.
915 imitedd slip.
I told him come up 150.00 to seal the deal.
Less than the cost of parts and machine work to fix his 2.7.
Both parties parted happy,

Good luck both of you guys. Sounds like it is going to work out just fine. Especially if Jeff goes through the engine for you. He's done a few I have installed in cars over years. Top notch work.

I got the engine (essentially long block), transaxle (limited slip), heat exchanges, ECU, and hopefully the wiring harness and distributor for $2800. Sounds cheap but it NEEDS work and it's missing lots of stuff. No alternator/fan, injection, or shroud.

As Sixnotfour stated, it's essential that motor not be turned over before the top end is disassembled. The injection was removed and the ports were not covered before the engine was removed from the badly totalled car, so there's lots of crap down the ports and in the combustion chambers. With 79k valve guides are most likely needed. The intact ports show signs of reversion to back up the bad valve guide theory. The seller didn't get very good compression numbers so rings are probably in order also.

Plans are to disassemble the engine and and replace valve guides and rings. I also plan on installing ARP rod bolts at the same time since the 3.2 uses the smaller 9mm rod bolts that are a known weak point.

Hopefully by spring, at least one of the three 911 engines will be on the track.

Wish me luck. It's hard to type with my fingers crossed!

exhaust ,sheet metal,motor mount , all bent . no good, not needed anyway.
Basic longblock A O K ,only 2 rocks in the cylinders.

the guy Eddie purchased the motor from sold the manifold, he has everything but the mani, So he is going to use the carbs untill he finds a mani for a decent price.

You ... are ... the ... man!

This engine is so beautiful with the Webers, that it might be a shame to install the DME. ITBs?

Instead of getting that beautiful 3.2 in the teener, I worked most of this evening on ... one measily pilot bearing ... in a BMW.

The tranny in my daily driver puked big time ... lay shaft bearings bought the farm! Cheap POS BMW! It had just turned over 300,000 miles three days earlier. Only 300,000 miles?

The last clutch that was installed by one of the previous owners had no grease on the clutch splines ... ugly! Lots of rust dust everywhere. The disk still had 75% lining! No wonder it was squealing on engagement.

I decided to be thorough and replace the pilot bearing. I even rented a nice bearing puller so I thought it would be a five-minute job.

The puller just would not get a bite on the inner race. I tried many, many times. I even filed the jaws to get a better fit. I wedged a screwdriver between the jaws. I tried driving the bearing in farther just to break it loose. No Go! I even got out the trusty slide-hammer and pounded on the POS for a few minutes. Nadda! I tried drilling the outer race to relieve the tension … broke three or four of my new drill bits! Yup. It’s nearly inpossible to drill hardened bearing races.

I was almost out of ideas. This bearing was installed pretty deep into the crank. I thought that if the inner race was removed, the new bearing could be installed in front of the old bearing. I took a screwdriver and a hammer and pounded out the ball cage. After moving all the balls to one side the inner race popped out! Just for giggles, I tried to pull the outer race with the bearing puller one more time. The jaws now had a much better bite and the outer race slowly started to inch out. More than two hours! What a waste of time!

What’s ironic is that after 300k this car was leaking almost as much as my clapped out 2.7 in the 914/6. There was oil everywhere except where it was really needed!

Since I’m a glutton for punishment, I tried pulling a pilot bearing in an old rusty BMW 535I crank in the back of the garage. The rented puller had the nasty rusted pilot bearing out in practically no time.

Go figure.

I got to get the daily driver out of the garage so I can get that sweet new engine in the teener.

w00t.gif how did you get it soooooo clean!!! i spent all day cleaning my six today, and it pretty much looks like the first pic unsure.gif it was really dirty though..... there was so much crap on it, that it was black.... now its dark grey..... dry.gif did you paint it??? i coated the whole thing was engine cleaner, and used a wire brush on it for like two hours..... it made me kind of mad when i saw you engine biggrin.gif tell us your secrets. it looks great clap56.gif

fitting is close,but woks should be turned down for most.
Grasshopper , its a later motor 86, Aluminum, no corrsion like the mag 2.0-2.7 motors .
its been apart ,cleaned ,rings, bearings, ARP rod bolts,chains ,ramps,valve guides and grind ,yada,yada.

I hate to put such a beautiful engine in a grungy old engine bay.

We've cleaned and repainted the engine bay, but it still needs some more work to look as good as the 3.2.
