914World.com _ 914World Garage _ south bay mechanic

Posted by: TimMartin Aug 21 2003, 05:07 PM

Hey all, I'm looking for someone in the south bay (sunnyvale, mountain view, even palo alto) that i can trust to do 914 work. I normally do it all myself but I've got a lot going on right now and i haven't had time to work on the car, but that doesn't mean i don't want to drive it!

Who do you trust? anyone?

Tim,
There are a number of good P shops in Campbell. Ken's Sportech, T&D among others. Check the Golden Gate Region web site http://www.pca-ggr.org/ and click on "local products and services" on the left edge of the page.

Rich is a 914 specialist. He works on "lesser" Porsches, but his guys know 914s inside and out. They are a top-dollar outfit, though...

Two more recommendations for general Porsche work:
Tony Heyer ("higher") at Heyer Performance in Mt. View. He's on Old Middlefield. I forget the phone number, but it's in the book.
Bob Grigsby at RMG Enterprises on El Camino (near Mary) in Sunnyvale. Back behind Bugformance and the adult book store. Don't know the number, but again he's in the book.

No BS from either one of them. They tend to be a bit more on the "stock parts are the only good parts" side than most of us, but I haven't caught them out completely wrong yet!! BTW, Bruce Anderson mentioned to me that he used to take his wifes 944 to Tony Heyer back when they had a 944. Tony used to work for Bruce back in the Garretson days, back when Garretson's was running the 935 endurance-racing team...

The closest shops to Sunnyvale are the two DD mentioned, then Moderman (Mtn View), DM Motors (PA), Reitmer (Los Altos), and HPH (Redwood City).

Rich at HPH is the farthest, but it would be hard to argue with his depth of knowledge and interest in the 914. He's also the kind of guy that you can talk to about the car and get lots of information.

What kind of stuff do you need done?

I know there is a guy in Novato that is kinda good with 914's.

Need more information Dave. What is the name of the adult bookstore, and do they have a wide selection, and I use the term 'wide' loosely.

Bugformance is sandwiched between the adult book store and a strip club. Sometimes when I'm in there (Bugformance I mean) the parts hanging on the wall are shaking due to the thumping (music) next door. Ha Ha.
