hey guys,
I just bought some new rims and tires and felt obligated to burn my perfectly good pirellis down to the cords. thought you might enjoy this, http://renegadehybrids.com/914/Subie/Videos/Video01.avi it takes about a minute to load but trust me, its worth the wait.
Thank you...
AWESOME BURNOUT!!! w/ your Subie conversion!!! imma do that to my old tires when i get a new set!
Yup..... worth the wait
cooool!!!!
Wow!
WooHoo! looks like fun
Wow, that car sounds positively mean. What are you using for your exhaust?
-Tony
Okay, spill the beans. What's the powertrain in that monster?
Cool stuff!!! Can you tell us what trani and cv you've got that lets you do that?
I know mine would just blow up.... Done a few burn outs myself (almost all on accident.. seriously..), but they are all done from straight line..
Like the exhaust.. sounds like our turbo.
Doesnt look like your tires stick very good..
Post above, powertrain is subaru turbo, 2.0 I believe.
quite the tall 901 1st gear....
B C or D id guess....
TOO COOL!!!!
NICE!!!!
-Rob
What a ride, yet amazingly scary at the same time. . .thanks for sharing!

holy sh!t that sounds nothing like the suby my ex owned 10 years ago. i thought it had a sewing machine motor in it!
wow.
...so, do i get an http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8020189790&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT off e-bay or a crate motor?
it's a lot of fabrication work to plumb and set up the intercoolers, isn't it?
looks like fun.
That is beautiful. I am in love with the Subura conversion
I sent the vido to a few 911 friends. They just got back to me and can't believe it. They also mentioned the 914 in EXCELLENCE. These 911 guys now want a 914.
They asked me if I can find them a "rust Free" one. We know the answer.
Tom
BTW
Plymouth37 guy, you should be very proud!!!!!!
awesome man!!
looks like a bunch of fun!

yea, super cheap, that's why i asked for clarification. i'm sure some guys have bought crate engines and installed them. i guess i'll do a search to try and assess true costs. |
here is a little straight line fun, I would have gone a little longer but the tire was starting to chunk off pretty bad! http://www.renegadehybrids.com/914/shortburnoutcompressed.avi
Dana,
Too funny. I read/watched this thread this morning and laughed so hard that my Starbucks Mocciato shot thru my nose!
no shit.
I can not wait for mine to get painted, and have you finish it off.
Dana and I got our engines from the same guy. He is very honest, delivers what he says he will. I got my 2004 WRX (4k mi) for $1500, nother $500 for the wiring harness and ECU. My suggestion would be to call the number Dana supplied in a previous post on this thread, you probably will be glad you did.
so how hard is it to cram a suby engine into a 914 ? and then actualy beable to drive it down the road
I saw the coversion kit on the renegade site for like 1300.00 then an engine seems to be 2000.00+/-
what else do you have to do to get this pup to bark?

What kinda mileage did you get on that tank??
And how is this video different than how you drive everyday?
BJH
How much hp and torque does that thing put out?
hey thanks guys that's some good info to see if I want to go that route ( wife / $$ permitting )
oh and aaron thanks for the help too .. cough :: smartass:: cough
BADASS
kinda OT -- what do you guys know about the engines a place called massive iv engines (I belive that is the name of the biz) sounds like a bad ass engine -- but would like more info from people other than the company ee's
mike
SWEET! Thanks for sharing those!

One more reason to make a "conversion" sub-forum, it would be nice to have all of this Suby info in one easy to find location.....
I won't be turbo'ed so my conversion should be a little more straight forward right? I mean as far as the ECU and harness? All I can find on the motor are 3 connectors. I need some help weeding this harness out. Its a 2004 EJ25... anyone know what needs to go and stay?
I can only pray that I can get mine to sound close to that when I'm finished! SWEEEEEET!

Thanks! I sent Small Car a quick email and I'll be looking for your post tonight or tomorrow Tony.
Kinda sad I didnt go with a subaru now myself....
I think I'll take a drive, throw it in 5th gear at 30mph, and just put my foot in it for 20 seconds. Woops, Im at 100mph already?
Good old tq...
I dont feel so bad now
Next month I should have one of my own...
BTW You did this on Good tires??? why?

the engine puts out 227 hp and 217 ftlbs of torque stock, so with the few tweeks i have done it is probably in the 250 horse range, but remember, this engine is lighter than a type 4. and yes this is a good representation of how I drive every day. still getting around 30 mpg, scary huh? |
flywheel specs, a dyno run is coming up

the aftermath, hee hee |
Dude
You rock
I have always been old school, and a car the breaks loose changing gears, alway good times.
I realy like the idea of a "Conversion" sub forum.
But only Eric Shea and I have the right idea
Ssshhh secret
Those vids are definately going to my "saved" file....if I can figure out how to do it

Awesome vid! Makes me wanna try it. I'm due for new rubber. Maybe I'll get a backup 901 first. I thought it was an odd sounding V8 till I read the posts. Do you have a LSD. Looks like 1 tire took the brunt of the burn.
Awesome!

Did you do that at your work parking lot??
Oh, and can you take pics of the concrete? Always good to know how black it gets...

I think I can smell the rubber here.

Great burn outs!
Your first was the best, and the 2nd was that Ol' 914 thing: I did some with my car too and found it disappointing that the car just doesn't want to keep rotating in a circle! It spoiled my whole "hero victory" thing!
I have a 930 trans and was not worried about the loads, but keep in mind that that 901 has small spiders and was designed for about 200 Ft Lbs of torque.
Terry
I put down 286 HP and 273ft lbs of Tq on a notoriously tight dyno. That's @ the wheels...
It's enough to get into a LOT of trouble.
BJH
Got ahopld of a GSXR 600 w/ a passenger he had me by ~ a car froom 60-90, and i had it back by 120... Rider couldn't believe it.
Also dug into a 996 turbo... i lifted @ 120ish, and he was just over a car back (starting @ 70 maybe???) He would have gone by me like i was standing still had i kept in it though. Damn aerodynamics
subies kick ass.
