hey guys,
I just bought some new rims and tires and felt obligated to burn my perfectly good pirellis down to the cords. thought you might enjoy this, http://renegadehybrids.com/914/Subie/Videos/Video01.avi it takes about a minute to load but trust me, its worth the wait. burnout.gif

Okay, spill the beans. What's the powertrain in that monster?

Posted by: Andyrew Dec 14 2005, 10:34 PM

Cool stuff!!! Can you tell us what trani and cv you've got that lets you do that?

I know mine would just blow up.... Done a few burn outs myself (almost all on accident.. seriously..), but they are all done from straight line..

Like the exhaust.. sounds like our turbo.

Doesnt look like your tires stick very good.. biggrin.gif

Post above, powertrain is subaru turbo, 2.0 I believe.

pretty much stock 2004 subaru 2.0 turbo flat 4, completely stock 914 tranny (the gear you saw was the stock 2nd, 1st is to weak) the exhaust is a single 2.5 inch with a 16 inch spintech muffler. axles are from Renegade Hybrids (good up to 500 hp!)

it's a lot of fabrication work to plumb and set up the intercoolers, isn't it?
looks like fun.

That is beautiful. I am in love with the Subura conversion wub.gif wub.gif

I sent the vido to a few 911 friends. They just got back to me and can't believe it. They also mentioned the 914 in EXCELLENCE. These 911 guys now want a 914.

the jdm engines are a little scary, i woulden't buy an engine that I didn't know the mileage of. there are a lot of great salvage in the us, call frank at 1-586-615-7455, i bought my engine from him and as you can tell it is pretty strong!

Posted by: WRX914 Dec 15 2005, 11:39 AM

Dana and I got our engines from the same guy. He is very honest, delivers what he says he will. I got my 2004 WRX (4k mi) for $1500, nother $500 for the wiring harness and ECU. My suggestion would be to call the number Dana supplied in a previous post on this thread, you probably will be glad you did.

Posted by: sk8kat1 Dec 15 2005, 11:43 AM

so how hard is it to cram a suby engine into a 914 ? and then actualy beable to drive it down the road biggrin.gif

I saw the coversion kit on the renegade site for like 1300.00 then an engine seems to be 2000.00+/-

what else do you have to do to get this pup to bark?

a radiator kit....

Well, assuming you get the Renegade kit, you'll also need a front mounted radiator (which also is probably necessary for the turbo Subaru engines anyway), an exhaust system and electronics. Thats about it. The electronics are probably the single most challenging part of the project, because unlike a V8 conversion, a carb isn't the way to go. You can use the stock ECU and wiring harness (which requries significant modification) or you can buy an aftermarket ECU and custom made harness, for probably somewhere in the range of $1000.

you will need the subie engine, ecu and modified wiring harness, renegade conversion kit, radiator, axles, and some custom tubing for the intercooler and up-pipe. call me (Dana) at Renegade Hybrids at 1-866-498-2421, i would be happy to walk you thru the whole thing.

the engine puts out 227 hp and 217 ftlbs of torque stock, so with the few tweeks i have done it is probably in the 250 horse range, but remember, this engine is lighter than a type 4.
and yes this is a good representation of how I drive every day.

One more reason to make a "conversion" sub-forum, it would be nice to have all of this Suby info in one easy to find location..... clap.gif

I won't be turbo'ed so my conversion should be a little more straight forward right? I mean as far as the ECU and harness? All I can find on the motor are 3 connectors. I need some help weeding this harness out. Its a 2004 EJ25... anyone know what needs to go and stay?

I can only pray that I can get mine to sound close to that when I'm finished! SWEEEEEET! driving.gif

I'm just about finished with the wiring harness on my 2001 EJ25. I'm sure its pretty similar. I will be posting the schematics that I made up in my conversion thread tonight. Otherwise the thing to do is get a copy of the factory service manual for your make and model and year on a CD and print out the sections on the wiring harness. There are really two pages (for mine at least) that are the most important. There are places on line where you can get a CD with the factory service manual for really cheap...

Great burn outs!

Your first was the best, and the 2nd was that Ol' 914 thing: I did some with my car too and found it disappointing that the car just doesn't want to keep rotating in a circle! It spoiled my whole "hero victory" thing!

I have a 930 trans and was not worried about the loads, but keep in mind that that 901 has small spiders and was designed for about 200 Ft Lbs of torque.
