I've been running these prototype parking brakes on my black six since last year (on 2 cars @ last years WCC) and they haven't missed a beat. Hill holding on a 15 deg grade is better than my OE 9146 e-brakes that these replace.
Legal dept. just advised me that we can start showing these, as things are moving forward over there
BTW, the P crest is for fashion statement only-the production items will be black, or have the msds logo on it. The system is purely bolt on, no welding, machining, and uses off the shelf Wilwood brand spot disc floating calipers.
The OE cable gets an "Extended" rod in the kit, and the brake and rod have lots of adjustment capability . The first p-brake kits that we build, will be for the 911 style ventillated rotor used with the Boxster 4 piston caliper (as shown here). We use 986 (Rich Johnson style) adapter blocks for the rear Boxster brake upgrade. These blocks give a solid locating point for the rod in our kit. My black car stops excellent with Boxster brakes all around-- but I know that some customers will want p-brake kits for big reds.
That kit will follow inital production of the Boxster 986 style / first kit.
Right now we are sorting out all contracters for this product, so no PN or price yet. I'll post updates from time to time on any ETA's for this product.

Thanks for working on these types of products. When I needed a flared rear valance to finish off a GT conversion, it was MSDS to the rescue! It's nice to see new ideas still being applied to these cars.

Thx guys for the props on the p-brakes.
Doug, before these go up for sale they will be tried on a variety of wheels--15" Fuchs and Felix's Technos too ! Right now they clear the 9 x 16" and the 8x 16" Fuchs.
I'm using the 19mm MC , stock prop valve and Troutman braided lines . The brakes were just about like the 9146 units in stopping power ...until I drove them hot and abusive. Once they set in- it's all different. These brakes are basically a great bolt-on performance mod for the money

Interesting Porsche patent on a handbrake lever, atty's found this while doing the Patent Search on the new 914 parking brake patent application (now pat pending). Of all places, the patent was issued in Japan. Anyone familiar with patents know why Japan and not USA, or elsewhere ?

Any issues with the "loose pin" in the Wilwood caliper? Talking about the actuator pin, and how it is separate from the backing plate and pad. When I asssembled these on a set of rotors, it seemed like having those loose "floating" parts in there could cause problems? Maybe not an issue after all? Haven't run them so don't know, but it looked like very careful adjustment would be required (at a minimum).
I like how you handled the floating caliper part. Still working on a design for this myself, but I think I'll do a bracket that bolts to the caliper that then slides on pins attached to the main mounting plate. I didn't like the un-evenness of the slider slots in the caliper.

Marty, Are you using carrera rear rotors on your car with that park brake setup? The adapters you used for the boxster calipers are they the same you would use on the front?

The 986 monoblock adapters are specific fit to FR and RR, and not interchangeable. I'm using Rich Johnson parts for adapting the 986 calipers to my 914 kit. Those are killer QC, and I wouldn't "Re-invent the wheel" by making msds blocks. The rear rotors shown are vented early 911 style, I'm not sure what the Carreras spec out to, Eric may chime in here.
A level 2 kit will be made for the Big Red style rotors , sometime after the first kit (shown here ) is introduced. Proll'y using Marvs6 as the donor car
The Wilwood spot calipers are decent once they are spec'd to my housings, out of the box they are basically generic. The adjustment of the actuator is simple, and the holding power is excellent. You will not need to use 986 calipers in order to use these Pbrakes. The cable support bracket (msds) does drop neatly off of the lower monoblock bolt though , if the 986 is used.
The only thing specific to these parking brakes is that they will fit all 914 trailing arms (L pn and R pn), and that the 911 vented rotor needs to be used.

I did come across a company in UK that makes a line lock emergency brake. Not the best choice I feel.
Anyways you guys can send me a prototype and I will gladly test it out.

Not sure why a Japanese filing. For one, it's expensive.
I have seen Olympus pull an old patent out of their ass that couldn't be seen in searches. It languished for a long time (6 or more years)in the Japanese system and then they pulled it out. I think they did a US filing off of it too. Anyway, it was good for a free 3 day trip to the US Patent Office to search the stacks.
We were the 3rd team in and found the proverbial needle in the haystack...

calibers. This is what I plan to use on my 904 kit car but the state would not allow them, not DOT approved for street use.

When I was looking into these I heard there was a problem with these sticking. Dont remember where I heard it though. Not the design but the caliper itself.
The news for the MSDS parking brake upgrade is that we received our official U.S. Patent # 7,837,014 in the closing days of 2010. I am finalizing the production-part castings for the caliper housing adapters with the subcontractor and machine shop.
The unit in the pic is using one of the prototype (fabricated steel) housing adapters. The production units will be cnc machined castings...so you are basically looking at one of our test mules in the pic.
Lots of test miles on the brakes, and still going strong
More updates to come , the USPTO did take longer than expected

When will these be available? What is the price point? Will these fit my 930 Brake system on my 914?
Mike, the first production model will be for the vented (911 rear rotor) 914-6 style. In the photo , I am using the Boxster caliper (4 pot) with the vented rotor.
Can also be used on the non-vented rotor by removing some block spacers. The second generation parking brake kits for the Big reds/ 930 style rotor require another spec casting due to different dimensions of the bigger rotors.We have already spec'd the larger rotors for the larger castings. There is no specific release date right now for the 2nd gen kits. So to answer your question, NO the first issues will be for the oe vented rotors as stated above.

I realize it has only been 3 months since the last post, but have you received approval to sell these yet? I am in the process of upgrading my car (aren't we all) and a new parking brake system would really fit my needs.

We are finalizing bids with the aluminum casting and CNC machining companies. The L and R housings are the 2 main parts to our kits and can't be made in house.
Once the production gets started we will have a handle on sales date and pricing.

Glad to see you got a US Patent. Recently, the Patent Office must have given the Patent Examiners some new training on how to apply the KSR court ruling, and they aren't allowing anything to issue unless it has "unexpected" results.
Now they can combine anything from anywhere and make the statement " it would be obvious to one skilled in the art" and kill your patent.
Recently ran into a case where they combined a medical device with a piece out of a dam (like the Boulder dam) and said "it would be obvious to one skilled in the medical device arts to combine them". Spent 15 years designing medical devices and never thought about dams having parts in them.
You got the Patent, good luck with the sales.
