Why not go with a color shift paint? That way you can have up to four colors depending on the light hitting the car. biggrin.gif

A darker blue than the "dark blue" you have. Something like Alaska Blue Metallic, or maybe the color of Carl's Six! Or something even darker would be cool!

I like the the chrome illosion idea ( color change ) or use the color change paint as accent gt stripes ....

bad part is the paint is 250.00 per pint .... and that was w/ a discount blink.gif

Posted by: Dr. Roger Dec 20 2005, 05:53 PM

well if you want to make small children cry and babies scream paint it neon green or pink.

if you want to make all the other -6 drivers pissed when passing them paint it bumble bee like the example above and attach a 1.7 emblem on the rear panel.. laugh.gif black and yellow. smilie_pokal.gif

Posted by: Jenny Dec 20 2005, 06:07 PM

I used to have this awesome orange-ish reddish nail polish that was iridescent. Or opal, or pearl. Whatever you want to call it. Looked great. Would change from shades as dark as crimson to a really light signal orange depending on how my fingertips were tilted. Looked much better than the chameleon orange that's on the prowler. barf.gif

Can't believe it, but I am really down with the pink...

And while I am generally not a big fan of the bumble-bee thing, I really REALLY like the treatment here. Must be the border cutoff on the front bumper. I love it!

Didn't you JUST paint that car red?!? If you're racing- DON'T do the pink or purple. Even the worst driver on the track will do enverything he can to stop you. Note: PCA track records for Second Creek. Al Lager Engines entered a pink 356 driven by Milt Minter. So unless you're up for the challenge...

Also (since we're talking paint) I have a 1975 Signal Orange.
How Who Where. It's the original color of the car- but it wasn't available for 75? Could this be a custom request. It also has original clear signal lenses

Oh. What about multiple color options? Green with blue zig zags on the sides. There was an SCCA corvette at the Denver Grand Prix last year that had a great color pattern. I'll see if i can find a picture. That car looked terrible, but the same paint would look good on a 911 or 914

Looks like guards red is catching up. Run the poll long enough and red will win, then you can feel comfortable with the current color, you can mark this task as complete, have a cold one beer3.gif and think about what you're going to do with the $$ and time you were about to spend on the repaint.

It's a 75 car- but that looks really light for Nepal Orange. Maybe it's just Nepal orange. I dunno. The color is consistant on interior portions

Posted by: Tobra Dec 21 2005, 04:05 PM

it is oxidized orange. I have always wanted a car that was painted with the same reflective siver they use on road signs. Would be DAZZLING on a car with lots of flats surfaces like a 914 on a sunny day. Or take it to bare metal and clearcoat it

Posted by: alpha434 Dec 21 2005, 04:11 PM

Good call. But what texture? Sand blasted? Polished? Brushed? No paint would be cool.

Two tone would be the trick boss! I'm doing mine black on top hoods, window frames back and front, sail panels and everything else in red. All high gloss and the hoods will be natural carbon fiber black. I will also pit two red racing stripes on the lids.

I think you need to brighten up the wheels. Black wheels don't seem to go with that combo. Needs a little more bling.

Posted by: JPB Sep 9 2007, 07:49 PM

Cool this is back and have a real candy idea. You take a 914 to bare metal. Shine the steel and use a course 3M pad on an air grinder to cut swirls in the steel in different directions. Then you paint the whole car in candy apple red translucent like the candy. The swirls give the car 3D depth as you look at it in different directions. This would also be an exhibition of 914 steel opulance of the most decadent kind. SCHWING!:beer1:

select an area (the car) then simply play with the color-balance of the selection. don't select windows, wheels etc. only parts that have the body color ...

pretty simply, really ...
bye1.gif Andy

PS: i don't use the magic wand, i use the freehand selection with straight lines. wherever you click next, it's gonna make a straight line from the last click. if you zoom in enough, that will give you a very nice selection ...

Posted by: Coy Nov 4 2007, 11:25 PM

Do like Andy says and take your time selecting the exact area you want to adjust.

Save your selection under "Select" > "save selection".

Then make a new layer and set it's mode to "overlay" and fill your selection area with a single color.

Then go to"Image" > "Adjustments" > "hue/saturation" and change the color to whatever you like (you can also adjust the degree of color saturation and the lightness/darkness there).

This way, if you really mess up, you can delete the layer and reload your selection ("Select" > Load Selection") and start over.

If you had a picture of them mounted I could do better.

Personally I like non-colors; Silver, Black & White (in that order).

Yellow BLOWS !! The decision had been made. I will be doing my car that color, therefore all others are forbidden to even consider it for theirs !! ar15.gif I'll be incorporating some minor body changes ph34r.gif from the one in that pic. Wheels....well if'n I come into some serious $$$ I'll get them otherwise I'll find something close dry.gif

i voted orange but, bumble bee style with signal orange instead of yellow is a great idea.

Posted by: Brent Nov 21 2009, 01:41 AM

Oh I will be doing that one in Forza. I needed a black car!

When I was a kid I always wanted a purple Porsche...
Orange for some reason seems to be one of the most popular 914 colors though.

I like your bumblebee idea, but reversed, with yellow the main color.

Can someone do a photoshop of one done in "Kawasaki Ninja Green"?

Maybe one with just solid color, and one in bumble-bee trim?

I think the one I had in college was an attempt to match the Zambezzi Green, but turned out a little more "neon".

I still miss it.

You could also check out the signal green 914 that was in Excellence. If i can find a new project 914 I may paint it signal green.
