914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Let's see your engine pics!

Posted by: nine14cats Dec 29 2005, 01:33 PM

I was just trying to clean up my disk drive and put it in some semblance of order...

Ran across my pics of our 2.7 Hot Rod motor...webers, headwork, high compression, etc., and I just started to think about how beautiful these motors look compared to others.

JLO's bling, bling SBC is pretty, but the Porsche 4's and 6's (especially with carbs, IMHO), are just gorgeous..... wub.gif

So let's see the 914-4/914-6 engine porn! laugh.gif

I'll go first...

Bill P.

Funny your timing. I'm close to finishing a -6 upgrade / derust / SC flares / 911 rear brakes / Getty dash / new interior. Got new venturies, jets, and a K&N kit from PMO last week and installed it over the weekend. Sounds good - still needs some tuning. If someone can host a 4mb clip, I can send them short film. Hope to have her roadworthy in the next couple weeks.

We tear that engine down a few times a year.. surprisingly there is very little apparent wear. We do have issues with valve guides though. But thats a minor problem, we punch out the guides and replace them in house...

Posted by: ChicagoPete Dec 31 2005, 08:29 AM

Henry Schmidt at Supertec Performance is building them with a 12 plug Marelli Jag cap...there is a guy near him who developed a rotor off an original Marelli rotor to work with the Jag cap...really slick and cost effective! Here is a picture of the first one I bought...was supposed to be for a 7R case...that was until we pulled the head studs that had previously been time certed...now the motor is built on an early cast aluminum case and needs a different length shaft on the distributor...

Stratton Motorsports will be adding the factory flares & painting it next month, taking the 914-6 dash to be powder coated next week, the 930 front susp has already been coated (still need 930 backing plates) and need to get the Konig seats recovered. user posted image user posted image user posted image user posted image user posted image user posted image user posted image user posted image

Hey Byron,

Is that engine bar an early -4 tailshift engine mount bar converted for the 911 engine?

Posted by: Maltese Falcon Dec 31 2005, 05:32 PM

since we've been lured to the dark side of forced induction , this is the 3.2 horiz fan engine before going into the black car. Distributor is by Aasco (Randall Aase) which uses a basic 930 ccr housing , and an OE Bosch 12 plug cap.

Why does it look like you have an ac compressor clutch on the front of your motor to drive the fan?

Posted by: GS Guy Sep 22 2006, 05:53 AM

Hehehe - not my motor.
Not sure about the crank pulley - it does sort of look like an AC compressor clutch but I think it's just the harmonic damper. That's a pushrod motor BTW....

It's pretty neat, but I think with all the $$$ that was spent building this particular motor in this configuration - you could have just done up a Porsche 6....

I was thinking that they put the clutch on there to make the engine warm up faster. Hook a temp switch to a relay, and the fan is off until the temp gets to a certain level.

The only problems with that is that it turns the alternator off, and the default is to turn the fan off if the power fails.

Just me reading too much into it.

OK......I'll play. '92 3.6 with intake flipped.
