914World.com _ 914World Garage _ tire fitment on wheel question...

Posted by: Dr. Roger Jan 9 2006, 09:54 PM

it seems that on most race cars i notice that the bead of the tire is wider than the tread.

i'm guessing that this will make the tire more laterally stable.

is this theory right or are some of my past indescretions catching up to me? dry.gif blink.gif wacko.gif laugh.gif

its to keep slip angle of the tire to a minimum.

For safety, the tire is glued to the bead of the wheel..?

ahhhhh,

i looked up slip angle and found this article.
http://www.insideracingtechnology.com/tirebkexerpt2.htm

it describes slip angle and also mentions deformation and tread deflection.

now it's starting to make sense. huh.gif clap.gif
