Let's do lunch at fudruckers. drooley.gif I love their burgers, and Brian and I never make it up there unless we're going to an A's game after work, and we're always in a rush with no time to stop for food. I'll bet McMark will second my suggestion. burger.gif

I'm in.

I'll leave Saturday afternoon for SD. I plan to be in town all week finishing up more loose ends. This will be a good way to end the week.

According to Yahoo Yellow Pages, there are Fuddruckers in:

E-ville, on Bay St.
Union City, at Union Landing (880 near Whipple, not far from PartsHeaven)

in the East Bay, unless you go all the way to Concord/Walnut Creek, or into Dublin.

Union City sounds nice for lunch, and access looks easy. The one in E-ville doesn't look like it's easy to get to, but I don't know the area very well.

Unless someone else chimes in, I'd vote for 11:30 at the Union City Fuddruckers. We can beat some of the lunch rush, and some people will just turn it into "brunch".

Looks like we have 5 right now...

I would be there but the GGR time trial instructors are having our annual preseason meeting (same day) to discuss the upcoming TT season. Expectations of the program and discussions about various issues, related to students and instruction.

I hope to get to an HSDS this year at least once. I was all set last year, did the ground school and the tech and then 2 days b4 thunderhill I got an attack of diverticulitis...and the doc said NO WAY... ahh maybe I'll be luckier this year.... smile.gif

Posted by: lapuwali Jan 11 2006, 06:42 PM

Hmm. Looks like we're 2 for lunch (Jenny/McMark), 3 for breakfast, and at least 1 (me) that would do either one. Sounds like DD would prefer breakfast, too?

So, those who are interested in coming, state your preference as to lunch at Fuddrucker's at 11:30, or breakfast at IHOP at 9:14 (there's one in Hayward, not far from 880/238).

However the votes tally by Monday the 16th will decide the issue...

Oh they are but so was the thought of missing a chance to drive on a track. I'd rather have breakfast...I have to be somewhere else at 2pm.

I'd do either, but I have a slight breakfast preference. I would rather do something that isn't IHOP too, but I realise that that might not be doable. Any ideas?

I looked for a Stacks in the East Bay, but they don't have any. I'm certainly open to suggestions. I don't know the East Bay very well. If someone has a better idea, speak up.

So I guess it's shaping up to be breakfast. IHOP doesn't have the *best* food, and actually, I don't really like the setup of that particular hayward IHOP. The whole group gets divided up into different tables and booths. But a place like Stacks would be an hour's wait, at least. Maybe someone can call ahead with a head count and get them to arrange some tables together. IHOP's, that is.

Can anybody vouch for http://local.google.com/local?hl=en&lr=&q=original+pancake+house&near=Fremont,+CA&sa=X&oi=locald&radius=0.0&latlng=37551389,-121970833,18426954388887430322 in Fremont? Never been there myself.

It looks like the group is largely leaning towards breakfast. I could do either but breakfast would help keep the rest of the day productive.

Sounds good Jon! The reviews look decent.

Original pancake house is yummy. Never been to the one in Fremont, but the one in Los Altos was great. Horrible parking, but great food. Maybe someone in the area can do a fly-by to scope out the parking situation in Fremont. And I'd highly suggest calling in ahead.

that's not good.....especially since it was like 50° or colder this morning....

Posted by: fiid Jan 20 2006, 04:38 PM

The heat from the headers is boiling the coolant in the engine>radiator tube before the thermostat is open... This causes it to blow a hose and everything to turn to sh!t.

Was running REALLY nicely before that though.

Posted by: lapuwali Jan 20 2006, 05:14 PM

Instead of wrapping the headers, wrap the radiator line, and perhaps fabricate a metal shield between this tube and the exhaust. Header wrap tends to retain water, so you'll just rust your headers out more quickly if you wrap them. The rad line isn't going to rust.

If you still have the dangling air deflector bits on the bottom of the car, get rid of them. You want lots of airflow from under the car into the engine bay.

that, my friend, does not make any sense ...

without the deflectors, NO air will ever go from the bottom into the engine comp. never. unless you add some sort of scoop under the car.

now, *with* the deflectors, you create underpressure behind them which in turn SUCKS hot air from under (or in fiids case OUT) the engine comp.
which generally is a gud thing ...

i'd vote for keeping the deflectors. wink.gif

hey fiid, if 'ya still got the rain tray on your engine lid, try taking that off ...

Put another person down. I'm bring a friend who was an original 914 owner (owned both a '70 and '74).

Posted by: fiid Jan 23 2006, 07:19 PM

if you're bringing wheels I'll bring the wagonholio!

I've been sick and busy replacing toilets this weekend so I've sadly made no progress since my coolant busting escapades last week.

-----------

As for wrapping - my headers are stainless steel so no rust worries. I think you're correct that I also ought to protect the cooling line. I'm worried about the engine bay heat for other reasons though - theres another cooling line about, and the air intake and having things be cool would be good for everything. Also - the megasquirt is in there - and that has a fairly specific operating heat range.

I think Andy's point about the flapper jobbies is pretty much on the monay... Mine were removed when I put the cooling lines in - so I think I might experiment with putting them back in to create a little more downward airflow.

Ultimately I want to do a diffuser tray under there - so the flapper jobbies will probably have their days numbered from the beginning.

Except none of these are ENGLISH, they're Latin.

The English plural of aquarium is aquariums, the Latin plural is aquaria.

The English plural of vertex, however, is vertices.

Got a chance to talk to several folks and my "torsion bar tool" is still working and is available for loan if you have trouble with the rear trunk bars. Mister Silker is in current posession... Nice to have a chance to catch up with everyone. And I did get rained on after I got on the west side of the bay. Not too much and only for 15-20 minutes. Hey, Jim! Thanks for the use of the trunk spring bender torsion bar tool thingy. It works like a charm. When I got home nobody was here so it was a perfect time to try it out and set aside a few honey-do's. I applied a bit of caution not wanting to lose fingers or end up staring at the sky like DD when he tried to fix his trunk hinges.

Your tool works great and with a little side pressure from a pry bar, it's not too tough to get the spring in position and replace the roller. Now, instead of a tired trunk lid that's droopy on one side, this thing stands up smartly just like we did when we were teeners. For some of us, that was a while ago.

Thanks again for the use of the tool and I'll get it back to you at the next local event.

The breakfast today was fun and a good sized crowd in attendance. It was also good to make contact with Kim Knutilla, Mike Muller, Stan, Jenny & Brian, Olav & Patricia and Jon & Deanna and get an update on all of the 914 and family happenings.

We really have a good group here.

And its interesting non-flares. Fits 225s under the rear fenders, which is nice!

And that's it for my pictures! Nice to see everyone today; nice to meet Trevor and Leo in person!

The white 914-6 is Sandy's! That's how it's pronounced, don't know the official spelling though.

It's an amazing car. 40k something original miles. Probably one of the most original cars out there. smiley_notworthy.gif

Sure it's not 140K miles? confused24.gif
40K just seems so low it's almost a miracle. That's like 1300 miles a year!!

At 140K that would be about 5K miles a year which is still ultra super low miles.

The car does look awesome though and the engine is clean from what I saw.

I believe he is asking $10K.

Posted by: Dr. Roger Jan 29 2006, 12:54 PM

My '74 has 68K original miles. the PO's kept the stack of registrations back to the original owner. Looks like they'd drive it a few K miles, it'd break down and get parked. they'd sell it. New owner woudl fix it and drive it a few more thousand miles. It'd get parked for several years. It'd get sold again. Driven and parked for several more years...

Last owner rbuilt the engine and the night before it got put back in it was stolen from his car port with transaxle.

He got frustrated and that's when I saw the craigslist ad.

I think it still had original tires as they were really dry and cracking. cool.gif

Hi all:
Yessir, it was a great time - glad it didn't rain! It was good seeing all the regulars and meeting new (to me) folks too!

"Ol' Yeller" is $10K firm and has 44,8XX original miles on it; three owners ago it was stored for 10 years. All the hoses etc. have been replaced and it has been driven regularly. I could have modified it but its in such nice shape I thought that would be a shame and being a CA car with the smog requrements, that also limited my options. I did enter is in the Palo Alto Concours and it got a lot of attention - it was a juried concours so the competition was very stiff - I was the only 914. It did win a Zone 7 PCA concours at the end of last season though.

Anyone interested, please PM me for details and I can send you the info I drafted up on the car.If a buyer wants the five original steel wheels (refinished by Harvey Weideman) with like-new period rubber, those will be extra.

Thanks for the props Jeff!
Later,

Edit: details now in classifieds at: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=ST&f=20&t=45213

Tom, sorry I forgot to look at your car. I got to talking with Jeff, and then Andy started pressuring me to get to the shop so we could work on his car. Yeah, that's it, it was all Andy's fault. Anyway, it's worth noting that you're car is a factory non-catalytic converter car.

I guess I should check the site more often than I have been recently. I didn't know about the breakfast until my dad told me the night before and I didn't know Sherryl had the twins until about 2 minutes ago. That being said, I'll be there next time, and congratulations, Mike and Sherryl!

We should all just bring starbucks cups with us. Empty ones. Hidden. And once we've all sat down and started ordering food, everyone bust out their starbucks disposable/travel mugs and order coffee to be poured into them. And then we'll all sit around sipping out of our $4 coffee cups and insist how good expensive coffee tastes. w00t.gif
