QUOTE
Here is a car for anybody that wants to have something different and never see another one on the street and yet still have a Porsche. Based on a 1970 Porsche 914 the car was pretty much completely re-fabricated from there on up. The engine is a 2.7 litre 6-cylinder Porsche with fuel injection coupled to a Porsche 911 5-speed gearbox. Both units were rebuilt and have about 1,000 miles on them. The body itself is an all steel custom design utilizing a 1989 Porsche Speedster windshield, doors, side glass and convertible top. A 928 rear is utilized with custom covers over the tail lights. Headlights are Nissan 300ZX again with custom covers. The brakes come from a 1987 Porsche Turbo and it has 15 inch CEC ATEV wheels at the front with 18 inch versions at the rear and fitted with Pirelli P Zeros, 295-35 rears and 225-50 fronts. Suspension is coil over with Koni shocks. Interior wise the car once again is pretty custom, with specially built seats, customized gauges, custom steering wheel, German wool carpet and 5-point racing style seatbelts. Finished in Guards Red with Mauve toned interior and convertible top.

Those headlight covers look like something off of a Nissan NSX.

confused24.gif Hmmmmmm? I have no idea what to say... so like my mammy used to tell me, I just won't say anything at all.....

Second thought, those 300zx headlights might have promise if they were not covered with those goofy grilles......

Seriously. That's a teener? Looks like you barfed ON IT, Olav. barf.gif

I actually know quite a bit about this car. The owner loves 300zx's and wanted his 914 to look like one. Everything is custom and not done too well. The rear deck is made with a ton of bondo. He's asking $29k. I wouldn't pay $2900 for this car. It was in the shop VERY OFTEN.

Oh, but the paint is red laugh.gif wacko.gif huh.gif

Well - it's different. It at least looks reasonably polished. Hey - AT least it's ALL PORSCHE and not one of these crappy bowtie/subaru conversions....

I don't like the car, but a think the speedster windshield looks cool

Olav,
Makes you appreciate your car, doesn't it?

Posted by: JmuRiz Jan 11 2006, 11:58 AM

Looks like he forgot to design a way to look at the engine, haha.
Guess you'd have to drop the motor to even change the air filter? blink.gif

This is the one Brad mentioned about the ZX light, interesting he said nothing negative about it.

It's no longer a 914 with almost nothing of original design. It's now one of hundred's of kit or remanufactured cars.

The styling leaves much to be desired IMO, gimick light covers F&B, luggage rack on a restyled rear deck, 928 rear end that gives a large mass, large mirrors on the fenders, and wheels that don't match or compliment the body. That said, props to the owner that got it built and running. If you realized what it takes to build a "custom" car you may appreciate it a little more...

I respect the amazing amount of work he put into it. But man, if I had that much work into my car it sure wouldn't look like that. Different strokes.

Looks like it pulls all it's cooling air through the side ports? Is that enough to keep it cool?

I think it's all in the "Vision." Just because one actually builds a "custom car" that doesn't validate their "vision" (actually their lack thereof) with regards to the finished product. Research a bit on custom car history and you'll find plenty of custom cars built that involved some incredibly ingenious specialized work that ended up looking like stromberg.gif because the designer lacked vision. Custom work for the sake of custom work won't cut it. It's got to come together, and this piece of stromberg.gif doesn't.

If the stupid ass wanted a 300 ZX he should have bought one instead of ruining a good 914. The 914 just is. Accept it, or find something else to screw up. WTF.gif

It's more than "vision." You almost had it, there is creative design and craftsmanship and both are necessary. It was a good day when custom car builders started to use trained and gifted designers because they already had the execution but needed the design process. Designers draw from many ideas, refine, mock up, visualize, collaborate, and develop them into a deliberate design.

It's ironic that 914 owners can be so defensive of a design that most people consider ugly. When someone tries to do what they feel is an improvement, people on this board tend to trash it. Must be a mob mentality. screwy.gif

The red car has a few good and many unrefined body features. It could be improved if the owner were open to development. Unrefinement is usually caused by lack of time, money, or an insular personality...

If you're talking about Bradhole, ironically, he never has negative things to say about other people's cars. He usually just chalks it up to a difference in taste, just because it's different from what he would have done, doesn't make it wrong or bad.

When it comes to esthetics, yes. But do something technical that he thinks is stoopid and you'll hear about it.

When it comes to vision I'm not sure I have it. I have ideas that I think are good enough to attempt, but I don't (or can't) always visualize what the end result will be. This can lead to problems where design elements don't flow together well. I wish I could sketch better.

And after staring at countless pictures for countless hours I've really come to appreciate how nice an original or well restored 914 looks. Not that I'll ever own one like that. I like my cars a little messed up so I don't feel bad doing stuff to 'em.

I don't think it's being defensive, it's more like we know something most people don't. smoke.gif And it's certainly not a mob mentality. It's called "Taste." Some have it, some don't. In your case, I think you do. Your Neo-914 project is well thought out and tasteful, at least the concept drawings appear so. If it is executed as planned you'll have a tastefully modified 914 whose parent lineage is clearly evident. I can't say that about the red buttbomb above.

Posted by: 9146986 Jan 12 2006, 09:36 AM

I'd like to see it firsthand. Some cars look better in photos than others, some cars look better in person.

I've always wondered what it would look like to build a flared car with that kind of side air inlet, and a slope nose.

The guy who owns it loves it, I'm sure and isn't that the most important thing? At least it's not on jackstands and he can drive it.......

Posted by: seanery Jan 12 2006, 09:50 AM

I've seen and touched this car (pushed this car) several times. The pictures make it look nicer than it is...like a 10 footer, ya know?

This just goes to show that people without a job,and have a lotta money can be sometimes dangerous.

Remember the phrase about idle hands are the devils work? spank.gif spank.gif spank.gif spank.gif spank.gif spank.gif

If he's asking $29,000.00 for the car,he's probably spent close to 40k to get it to it's current state.Assuming he's sub'd out all the work.

Let's look at it this way, if memory serves me right,a couple years back,40k woulda put the Ernie King 3.8l ORIGINAL 914/6 in your driveway. blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif

I know lots of people,as we all do that literally waste money. But,I've always felt that if someone wants to literally throw his or her money in the street, please advertise the event so that some some people can attend and catch some of it who can actually put it to good use.

Jon, let me know what ideas you have for your car. When I have some time I'll "embellish" them for you. There are alot of ideas I couldn't use on my car. rolleyes.gif

I've come around, my first neo914 was the Chalon but it substituted 914 styling for 80's 911ish. screwy.gif Now I love the original design and hope the modern refinement is complimentary...
