I think the P-51 ENGINE would be fun in a 914... (I've seen pics of an allison V12 aircraft engine hacked into an Opel GT in mid engine config.. ) |
Wow! That Packard sure looks like a 57 Stude Hawk with a big hoover style, full width air scoop front end.
Hell, it was only 1500 hp in P51 configuration....whata wussy engine...

1978 mustang king cobra
It's true, i saw it also, for sale on Ebay, golly, maybe two years ago. It only went for about $10-15k as I recall, real low i thought cause that engine to a war bird collector has got to be worth many times that, and it was a real fighter plane engine that was to supposed to run (maybe not airplane certified anymore, but hell I think "cores" of them old motors would sell for more than the winning bid.
Yeah your right, the early sonnet was the 2 cycle, it had a full tilt up bonnet (like a triumph Spitfire) the later ones not only had a four cycle, had a tiny little hood to acess the engine (no more tilt up bonnet), and pop up headlights (manual operated), redesigned rear. They are front drive, with the transaxle behind the engine. The seats at least in the later ones look almost the same as stock 914 seats (mandatory 914 content). The V4 was a european Ford design.
Futuristic car at its time.
