914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Wanting to restore bezels on console gauges

Posted by: computers4kids Jan 21 2006, 12:16 PM

The black paint on the bezels of my 3 console guages look terrible. I would like to refinish them without scratching the clear lense. Any suggestions? I presume you must be able to open the guages up...or is it the time really worth it? I would prefere to refinish rather than replace.
Thanks

I would take them apart. I remember seeing a thread a while back... searching....

Once the guages are removed you can easly bend the lip of the bezel and remove it from the guage. Then sand and paint. Just remember to insure the rubber seal is properly seated or condinsation will build up on the glass.

I used black appliance paint to restore the rings, and had a new set of glass lenses cut at a stained glass shop. Ask for anti glair picture glass. The set of three was about $10.
