914World.com _ 914World Garage _ The New Official Waide's LE/ Joe's BBQ Thread

Posted by: Howard Jan 31 2006, 06:42 PM

Aaron and Allan said their cars will be ready by the 18th.
And so all this stuff is on one place, here's a repost:

Just sent Waide this email. Let's start collecting stuff for his new car
I have some WCC stickers, extra throttle cable, Meguiars, Haynes. Bring whatever you can.

Hi Waide,

Went thru the car some more today. It's missing a couple of little things, one trunk targa top holder, one heater hose, trunk carpet. Think we can scrounge all that at the BBQ, but more important, no tools or owners manual. Suggest you pick up an inexpensive tool kit and hunt down an owners manual on eBay.

Has Haynes manual, spare bulbs, fuses and jack, but no lug wrench. Spare is good. Throttle cable a little squeaky. I lubed it and hope for the best, but I do have a spare. Got the carbs and timing pretty well (my first try with carbs) and I'm sure it will be fine, but if you want I can take it to a 'real' Porsche mechanic and have him go thru the car. I never seem to get out of there for less than $300, so your call if you want this done.

Are you planning to come in Friday night or Saturday? I'm about 70 miles from Joe's. Piece of cake on Saturday, tougher on Sunday PM, and a real PITA during the week. Just let me know. I decided to post this in hopes of getting stuff you need.

Make a list and drag all the cars to Joe's. I volunteer Slits to fix them all.

Posted by: MattR Jan 31 2006, 06:56 PM

Are you gonna add me to the list in the 912? Its coming back from paint any day now... I just need to rebuild the pedal cluster and rebuild carbs.

Throw me in the mix Howie! (even though the 912 is a NARP)

Posted by: Headrage Jan 31 2006, 07:10 PM

I voted both.

I think that gives me a better chance of being at least 50% correct. smile.gif

I of course wont have mine there either. Loaned out the welder so I cant finish the long kit and the rear suspension is still not done and I have yet to remove the rear trans cover and fix the speedo. Otherwise, it would be there. Since I have no time to work on it, I will be in the old reliable little yellow pickup. smile.gif

Howard

Ok, the extra throttle cable is fantastic, now if/when that breaks while I'm crossing the desert in between Cali and AZ, do I just duct tape the new one to the broken one and then we're all good? confused24.gif

HEHEHE, since I am new to 914s it might be well worth my $$$ to have the car go to a mechanic and have the cable replaced and the vehicle giving the once over.

Do you guys think that's a good move or ????

We are planning to arrive on Saturday (unk time) and take off Sunday AM after the BBQ blues wear off.

Did I mention that I'm excited to meet all of you, oh yeah and pick up my car? aktion035.gif

No offense intended Michael. I've bought 5 cars (that I remember, might be more) sight unseen and it's bitten me a couple of times. Not really bad, but bad enough. You and I don't really know each other well enough for me to know that you're idea of "mint" and mine are the same. That's all I meant. I do mean that. The only reason I told Waide to jump on Howard's car was because Howard had someone do a PPI and he bought it. Even after driving it he felt the car was nice enough to offer to club members without hesitation. I trust Howard's judgement and reputation on this board that he wouldn't be serving up something that he thought was a lemon.

It's local, I'll go look at it if you want.  I'm no expert, but I can drive it and see if it works.

Steve, you are more than welcome to ride along, or we could have a 2 teener caravan. I do not yet know when I will be able to leave Vegas or when I have to be back.

Thanks John, it's going to be a tough call, 70hp with no sway bars, or 200hp with fully developed suspension. We could even use the car pool lane in CA! My new toy won't be ready by then, so it sounds like a plan. chatsmiley.gif

On a rare serious note, PPI's are a favor to the potential buyer and an imposition on the inspector. Any of us can look at a car and express our opinion without ANY WARRANTY IMPLIED. If a car craps out because of something the inspector missed, tough stuff.

Hell, I didn't do a compression test or pull the rockers on Waide's car. I am not a mechanic, but drove it and liked it. I'm sure Ron is in the same boat with Mike's car.

If you get here and don't like the car(s) you can always back out.

Posted by: Gint Feb 6 2006, 06:36 PM

Yeah... I don't play that game. I knew what I was getting into before I started. I'm a big boy. Buying any used old car is a risk. I've been at both ends of that risk.

You roll the dice and you take your chances. But I sure as hell won't blame Ron if the thing takes a dump in BFE AZ ( poke.gif ) somewhere.

Where'd all this crap come from anyway? You're givin me a serious downer on my new car buzz.

Hey Aaron, I got more positive votes than you. bootyshake.gif

The 28 that voted neither can spoon feed us (not me) when he wears his underwear on the outside when he gets there.

The biggest single problem with BFE AZ is not the lack of shade, it is not the lack of water, it IS the lack of cellphone coverage.

Jim's car is really nice. Seen it with my own wacko.gif

Posted by: jim_hoyland Feb 6 2006, 08:56 PM

There used to be three copper 914's in the area; by pure chance, we all showed up at the same place on 17th street in Costa Mesa at the same time. Each was going to a seperate shop. Never saw them again--but heard by someone that one is in a Westminster aoto wrekers yard.

See you !
