Wind outside is howling, snow blowing all over the place, temperature is plummeting. No garage work tonight! So I'm getting intimate with my distributor.
First and dumbest question. If you can suck on the vacuum advance and it doesn't hold a vacuum - then it is pooched right?
Second question. The advance plate does not move smoothly. Needs lubrication as a bare minimum. How far should I tear it down.
And finally, some dumb ass let the circlip for the advance drop down into the body of the distributor. I gotta go in after it - best way? Haynes gives a procedure - any pitfalls? Anything I should do while I'm in there?
yes the vac can is shot
i tore mine ALL The way down and sprayed it all down with carb cleaner in the middle of the dorm hallway...everybody freaked out but nobody knew it was me

ps=i also built it back up and cleaned everything out and re-oiled it....
Every dorm has to have a Britt! just to make life interesting!
So did it all work when your were done? I'm always better at the taking apart business than I am at the reassembly thing.
hell yeah it worked, i removed all the junk off of the centrifugal advance mechanism and eliminated my 3000RPM-3500 miss....
the timing wouldnt consistantly advance....
but yeah, the dorm hall director, several Resident assistances, and the cops were going through the hallways...i guess they thought i was inhaling it?
well...i guess I was bc i felt lightheaded but it worked....
after you clean it up, put oil down the hollow rotor shaft...it lubes the centrifugal advance plates.
