914World.com _ 914World Garage _ And now some Black

Posted by: Dan (Almaden Valley) Feb 13 2006, 06:59 PM

Decided to try to reupholster my door panels.
Got some nice felt lined vinyl that looks pretty much like the very top portion of door panels.
here are a few pics of the results.
I am using original RS America door pulls. Will securely attach them thru panels into metal of door with original items from door panels.
Turned out pretty well for about an hour and about $20 for vinyl and 3M upholstery adhesive.

After on top and before below.

In my case, my next door neighbor just got a RSA and it came with brand new in the box door panels, door pulls and other hardware. He didn't want the old ones so I got them....free ( I know you'll like that part Aaron wink.gif )

I am sure you can get them from Porsche at a very nice price. huh.gif laugh.gif

If these hadn't come along I was going to my local FLAPS and getting some aftermarket replacement handles. They actually don't look too bad. But these are much cooler biggrin.gif

As far as the openings for the door latch and window crank. Those will be opened up when they are installed.

bluecar doesn't, but at this point, it still has doors!

In the future, though it will be door skins, unless I can find a decent set of fg doors (at a fair price).

Sure they do Aaron. Check out the GT3 Cup cars. Permant plexiglass side windows. No up or down.

me too...

Glad to see I might have motivated a few folks to try some upholstery work themselves.
My next attempt will be behind the seats. I plan on removing the behind the seat pad and the insulation and replacing it with the same vinyl glued directly to the firewall.
Will post pics of that project when I get to it. biggrin.gif

Dan, I'm anxiously waiting to see pics of your backpad setup. Aren't you concerned about the heat if you go with vinyl directly glued to the firewall though??

I'd like to do something similar, good luck!

Posted by: Dan (Almaden Valley) Feb 14 2006, 04:53 PM

I am going to run without anything on it for an event to see how hot it gets. If it gets too hot I will just use a very short nap carpet, similar to trunk covering.

Posted by: Andyrew Feb 14 2006, 04:56 PM

Doesnt get that hot...

ran w/o it for a while.

Posted by: Dan (Almaden Valley) Feb 14 2006, 04:58 PM

That's what I thought. I don't think it will get that hot. Didn't the factory 6GT cars have carpet directly attached to the firewall?
If it is good enough for one of those cars I guess it is good enough for mine smile.gif

Very nice door panels.

Isn't there a door pull (to open the door) that is like a looped strap? huh.gif

CHeers

Posted by: Dan (Almaden Valley) Feb 14 2006, 09:00 PM

Yes there is a looped woven nylon strap (or leather on the originals) but I am going to be using the orginal 914 door latch pulls, so I can still lock it up.

Purchased the vinyl from a local fabric store.
3M adhesive (spray) from OSH. (hardware chain)
