914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Enzo vs Telephone pole on PCH

Posted by: Crazyhippy Feb 21 2006, 10:51 AM

The accident in Malibu on PCH was a Red Enzo... A friend just drove by it and had to call and tell me. Sorry no pics, he says it's FUBAR though. Debris for 50 yards, telephone pole is inverted...

Someone had a bad morning unsure.gif dry.gif NOTHING left behind the doors.

I saw it on the news this AM. Couldn't tell it was an Enzo from the traffic copter shot. It was totaled. They said that the 2 occupants walked away from it too.

Sorry, no pix.

That's the double-edged sword of modern engergy-shedding chassis design. By peeling off heavy peices like suspension & drivetrain energy is quickly disipated and you walk away with your life intact. On the other hand you get to watch layers of your car being sheared off in $100,000 chunks. huh.gif

Posted by: SoCal Driver Feb 21 2006, 06:21 PM

i heard this on the radio this morning on the way into work. I heard that the "driver" fled on foot, but they havent found him yet. The owner of the car was the injured passanger, his story was that he was letting someone else drive (a friend from Germany) and after the accident he ran. from what new reports i've read the owner was bleeding from the mouth and they found blood on the drivers airbag but not the passangers, and to boot the owner (whos claiming to be passanger) blew a 0.09 BA. CA law finds anyone over a .08 a DUI. But if i remember correctly if you are involved in an accident and you blow any alcohol they automatically give you a DUI.....

Posted by: grantsfo Feb 21 2006, 06:23 PM

So do you think they were really doing anything close to 200 MPH?

Posted by: SoCal Driver Feb 21 2006, 06:24 PM

one of the reports the CHP stated that they were in excess of 120 mph.....racing a high end Mercedes Benz..... after the accident the Mercedes left. It supposidly all started at a party last night in Beverly Hills.

If the Benz Bozo left the scene, the LASD and the CHP will make a serious effort to find and bust him, too. Even if he wasn't involved in the accident, the case could be made that he was engaged in a speed contest, and was part of the problem. They're REALLY big on leaving the scene in cases like this. Well, if you look at all the pictures you'll see there's quite a hill followed by a big dip in the highway right where all the trouble started. I'm sure that exciting things happen when you crest that hill at 150+ mph. Things like this:

This is really interesting - the muffler has a valve and actuator on the second out-pipe - is that to maintain constant backpressure accross a range of flow rates or something? Or just to make noise when you floor it?

Yup, the valve opens at high rpms and closes down low to regain some low-end torque.

There is a similar arrangement on the intake track as well. Many newer cars do the same on the intake side.
