914World.com _ 914World Garage _ AX trailer project is completed

Posted by: itsa914 Feb 21 2006, 04:45 PM

Finished my AX trailer setup during lunch today. Got it hooked up and went for a drive around town and it tows real nice clap56.gif

I do have one issue with the trailer lights, they work but are very dim. I thought it might be a grounding issue but when hooked up to my truck they are nice and bright.

Got to see if there is a heavy duty turn signal relay for the 914 confused24.gif

A few Pictures biggrin.gif

thumb3d.gif How long does it take from start to finish to get it all setup and ready to go?

Posted by: itsa914 Feb 21 2006, 04:56 PM

About 5 min. I will leave the box loaded with jack, tools, other misc AX equipment and I plan to leave the tires on the trailer. The trailer is very well balanced so it is easy to move by myself when loaded.

Dieing to find out how well the car can pull a trailer, Like to and event. What kinda speed can you maintain does the trailer drive the car? and what about stopping...

Please give a us a full report of how it goes.
I forget what wheels did you end up getting for the Hoosiers. can't quite make them out.

Posted by: itsa914 Feb 22 2006, 07:05 AM

Joe, I am using Keizers (sp) rims biggrin.gif driving.gif

Nice setup Garold! One of our DE instructors in CIR has something similar for his 928.

Now we need you to get registered for our "Spring Brake" DE event at Putnam Park driving.gif

That's what I thought.....
SO how do you fit them big fatty Hoosiers under the fenders?
is you car still at the came ride hieght as in the picture?. Maybe that's the answer.

Posted by: itsa914 Feb 22 2006, 10:56 AM

Nope, it's lowered and counter balanced now smile.gif The negative 1.5 camber helps, plus fender lips are rolled wink.gif

laugh.gif Its been done once by PO sometime ago. I'm going to leave it as it is since those are my AX tires. Plenty of room with 205 50 15 Potenza's and minilites biggrin.gif

Hey now, just got them tires last year, only two AX on them. Once they are gone I will try a set of Hoosiers.

Judging on the winners of most of the DOT classes at nationals in 2005...I would stick with the tire with the "HO" in the middle. cool.gif

Agreed.... Fresh sticky Ho's are the way to go.
But for regional event cheap hos' get more runs per dollar.

I have 67 runs on my Hoosiers they are just about done.
I had 187 runs on my Kumhos and sold them with 2/32" rubber left on them.

67 runs is 2 events at the local region down here.....

i nailed 33 runs in one session... and i left early..... was tired huh.gif

basically killed my falkens..... after 2 ax's and 8000 street miles laugh.gif

I suppose it don't take very long to run 10 or 15 cars through.
Try 70 cars minimum. we usually get lots of timed runs and then a free for all with fun runs. Hoosiers are just too expensive for fun runs.

Love the Cookie cutters on the trailer - excellent.

Posted by: Randal Mar 13 2006, 01:04 PM

Nice work Garold.

Don't forget to throw in a spare tire for the trailer somewhere.

You wouldn't want to leave the trailer on the road anywhere, while you had the tire fixed.

Or maybe that instant tire stuff would get you to a repair spot?
