I have to say that Brandon and Mark did some unique and excellant work on my 914.
I was planning to take pictures for posting on Sunday, but all it has done since then is rain, rain, rain.....
This is California, but guess it is still winter.

Business end - not much left, but very clean work by Mark

Oil cooler and lines. Still need to detail the inside of the front..

More of front
looks like the PMS car...
More mechanical stuff
Very nice. Its another one of those crazy fast lightweight AX cars. You should keep the other two lightweights in our area busy with that car. With a big 4 that car is going to scream.
nice ride...does anybody on this site do vintage track racing?
I grew up right near Watkins Glen and go there every year to watch the races. A couple 914s around but not many....
(on second thought...I'll just start a new thread)
Nice paint, really like the wavy look.
What type of oil lines are they??Looks very nice

Earl's Pro-Lite 350, which I purchased from Summit. Much nicer on your hands |
Excellent Randal!
Can't wait to see it run with the new motor.
Still trying to decide where I am going to mount the oil cooler....
It is either going up front laying flat in the trunk floor with the fan pushing air out thru the cooler or in the engine bay...mounted where the battery usually sits...battery in right front corner or rear trunk.
I will decide on final mounting with in the next week.
I like your cooler mounting
By the way your car looks great!
sweet!
Nice!
That sumbitch looks fast
See you at the Parade......and don't forget the "After Parade AX" on the 12th.......the Saturday after the Parade is over.
wow! looks great!!! have fun with that car!!!!
Love the color scheme. Great looking car. Looks faaaast.
Damn Randal. It was just a couple of years ago when your car was a stock '75 914 with narrow fenders and big bumpers. Now you've gone and cut the entire roof off of the car!
Looks like you're building a serious Neilsony/Blyholder competitor. I'll be left in the dust.

Very nice. I like the candy blue over the *special* trunks.
I wonder how close to your times I can get.
How long until the motor goes in?

Looks like a winner!
Is the engine nearly done?
In a couple of weeks you should have a shiny new exhaust to go with it.

Thanks, but remember it's only a 4. A little 2.4 Raby. |
Driver is the absolutely most crucial aspect. Set up is second and HP I feel is third.
I have seen many high powered, nicely set up cars with crappy drivers get beat my much more lowly equipment.

I know where you are coming from JP
TTOD AX car formula = sub 1800 lbs +140 hp + race slicks + somone who is willing to drive it fast. Appears this car has all the required elements and a 175 to 200 hp engine.

Looks great, Mark, now I see what you were talking about with the paint on the hood when Leo and I were up there. Randal, you should be happy your car looks really fast, the faring over the dash came out very well, looked alot rougher when I saw it before it was done...still in the fitting stages....AND, you survived the "Great Napa Flood of 2005-6" it's a great omen.....
Randal,
Nice looking work.
Are you pushing the oil to the front cooler with the T4 oil pump? Has the pump been modified for this or is it a standard pump? Do you still have the stock oil cooler as well? I have wondered what kind of pressure drop this arrangement results in, since on a typical T4 the oil will be pumped through the filter, remote oil cooler, and stock oil cooler before being routed through the engine.

The oil pump was blueprinted by Jake Raby. We are still discussing what additional mechanical pumping might be necessary. |
I have been told the same by a very two different Porsche mechanics. The t4 pump is pretty robust...higer volume pump can't hurt

My 30mm pump will do the job (has done it many times) as long as the pump can keep it's "prime" during hard cornering.
With a wet sump, no matter the pump that is used, this is the key for volume and pressure.
Some internal mods and a deep sump are the best ways to ensure the pump keeps it's prime..
WOW Randal. It looks great Mark and Brandon did a fantastic job.
Cant wait to see it run.
