I'm trying to lock down some classic car insurance for my newly acquired 914 and Hagerty just shot me down AGAIN! That's the second time in 4 years. I have a good driving record, I don't get these guys.
Anyone have any other suggestions for East Coast besides JC Taylor and Condon & Skelly?
Dam is it really that hard to get??? I went to grundys site and did there online quote. The price sounded to good to be true by the way.
Why did they not aprove you?
I have Hagerty's with no problems and I am on the eastcoast!
Maybe they know your a Redsocks fan!

Car has to be in a certain condition to be insured under a collector vehicle policy.
Not just any "budget 914" can be insured as a collector vehicle.
I have one speeding ticket on route 93 from 3 years ago and they balked. I was doing 75 on the highway I mean come on! Speed minimum in Boston is 80 everybody knows that!
Besides that I am good. One accident but it was weather related and ruled not my fault. Its not even on my record. I have heard many of the companies Balk at Mass and NJ
I've had a couple and my recent one is Grundy - and they are cheaper than leland West. Before that I had American Collectors and had a tree fall on two cars and they paid instantly - no questions asked. Some will not insure Porsche's and other are limited geographically - but in most cases they are cheaper than traditional.
That's a few more, great...thanks for the ideas. I am just trying to cover all my bases before I break down and put it on standard insurance for the time being.
I have leland west on the 914 and boxster, both are limited use policies. For leland west need to be pca member. Been with them since the beginning,
No probablems and "agreed value" policies.

I see this come up a lot. Why the need for classic car insurance? Mine is insured with AmFam just like my Tahoe. I just called them up(in this case WaideS) and said hey, I have a 75 Porsche 914. Don't drive it daily so how much? Quick and easy.
the need for classic car insurance is $$$. I have a policy in upstate New York for my ghia with Condon and Skelly and its 70 bucks a year to insure. Standard insurance for the 914 will be at least a grand I bet, if not more.
so yeah, I'd prefer to spend the 900 bones elsewhere....

Its all geographic. People in Boston tend to drive just a *tad* more aggressively than out west and its a major city so more people, cars, things to hit. Insurance is regulated by the state or the rates would be even higher. Geico, Progressive...these guys don't even insure here.
It's a mess I tells ya....

Same boat with me....I only plan to put around 2K miles a year on the car and I want an agreed upon value that I don't need to go to an appraser for.
I just got Hagerty insurance on mine and it went through no problems. The reason I went the collector route was because my normal carrier pretty much said they would only give me liability due to the age of the car. I wanted collision coverage since I did use a loan to buy the car.
State Farm. Classic car insurance, $100/yr. Only requirements is that it be in good condition, is only driven occasionally (only on Sundays, honest! ), and is NOT a primary vehicle. And that's with full coverage.
All my cars (three Volvos, and the 914) are covered by State Farm, and I'm perfectly happy with 'em.
