Dear Sir's,

I'm very disappointed you had to cancel my order. Is there any way you would consider making this unit for the Porsche 901/915 transaxle? I could ship you a carrier for the re-design.

I am a member of a very large and active on-line club. I posted I was purchasing your product and having it installed in my car. There 5000 members waiting for the outcome here. If you made a Limited Slip for this transaxle you would sell them like hot cakes.

Please consider my offer. My transaxle is currently apart and I can box and ship you a carrier to use. One of the other units you build may even fit in the 901/915 carrier.
Other German carriers are very much the same.

Please call If I can assist in any way.

Respectfully,

Richard A. Ollah

P.S. If you question the interest in your product here's a link to the website. There is a search button in the upper right corner. Do a search for Phantom Grip

The site may be down as they are upgrading the server. So if it's down come back and check on Friday.

av-943.gif Hi John wavey.gif I like tha angry mob idea. Yack.gif

I just thought there would be more interest in a low cost option. I guess if your not spending $ 2000.00 + on an installed Quaife your not getting value.

Posted by: KaptKaos Feb 28 2006, 10:35 PM

You're lucky, if it was AA, they would have charged you shipping too and then not tell you they weren't making them. chairfall.gif

I know you are bummed, I was just trying to lighten things up a bit.

Yeah maybe it was posted on the other thread but would the transmission have to be completely taken apart to put this in? Could a loser like me put one in myself?

Posted by: V6914 Feb 28 2006, 10:57 PM

There is a guy that makes units, for different cars, and was sued by Quaif, over Copy Rights I believe, and he won, he proved his units were different, not copied.

To make this short, it was said, he's suppose to make some to fit the 901, around a $700 to $800 price tag. This was last year.

The beauty of the PG is you don't have to do a R&P set up. You remove the carrier, slide the spyder shaft out, install the pg, and re-install the carrier using the exsisting set up. I've been told the R&P set up is lengthy and a major part of the cost. I was hoping the introduce a low cost option to an otherwise expensive up grade.

Ya, I'm bummed. dry.gif

Well, if it's a race car, pull the carrier, weld up the spyders, it works great, if you only go in a strait line, or race on a dirt track, or Drift race. happy11.gif

I, guess I'am not helping.

Brett, what is up your sleeve?

Posted by: rick 918-S Mar 1 2006, 10:42 AM

Wooooo! Hoooo!

Here's the response!

We could do the in house fitment if that is your wish. Let us know when you
are ready to send the unit or around the time so we can be expecting
it.Turnaround should be about a week if all goes well. cost is around the
same price. Thank you for your interest in our product and we hope to be
able to get this done. We are sure we have something that will work. We did
do a 915 carrier back in 02' though. Let us try to find more info and see if
we can find the part # first, and we will let you know. Give a few days on
this please.
Thanks again.

I didn't here back from them yet. I'll bug them on Monday to see If they just want me to ship mine to them for the custom fit. Once they finish with mine they will have a part number available. Then you all can start slamming in the orders.

I don't know how it works. I will know more once PG is finished and Brad completes the rebuild. I will give you all a complete report.

Cost is $ 350.00. To install you slide the spyder shaft out, install the PG, release the clips. the springs apply pressure on the spyder gears. Kind of like the old style clutch packs in the american muscle cars. At least that's what I'm assuming.

I hope to have a good report. unsure.gif

It's posi-trac.

Remember posi-trac? From those big honkin muscle cars? Well. It's really expensive and unwieldy for them now. But it'll work perfect for us.

The idea is that it locks the diffs up on acceleration and releases them when your off of them. You adjust the spring tension to make it more or less responsive.

I asked them for a print. Ti, anyone?

It all depends on torque.

The Ti version won't be as hardy as steel. I'll tell you that much. But it will be hardier than aluminum!

biggrin.gif

Posted by: Andyrew Mar 4 2006, 03:50 AM

Alpha.. "depends on tq" is a shitty comment when he told you a v8....

Attached is my engine dyno. Junkyard rebuild w/ mild cam, intake and headers... on SMOG heads.. THIS is about as much as a 901 can take..

and this shows you what a v8's tq curve looks like... Back that behind a Posi trac 901, and you'll blow it up.

btw, the run was taken from 2k-6.3k rpms(they couldnt get the coil wire to work..)

Hi Guys,

I am one of the visiting X1/9 guys and someone on your board saw my Phantom Grip install on my picture page. I have a fair bit of experience with Phantom Grip having done a few in both street and race cars.

If you want I could do a brief techical overview of the unit, how it works and installs.

Let me know.

Why do you attack me like that all the time? It really kind of pisses my off. V8s making torque isn't a constant. Thats an overgeneralization. If you had to, you could get your torque low enough to make it accept a 901.
