914World.com _ 914World Garage _ direct wiring of fog lights

Posted by: Dan (Almaden Valley) Mar 5 2006, 06:38 PM

OK, here is the deal.
I am mounting my 25 row oil cooler in the front trunk. biggrin.gif

I also plan on running a 1600CFM fan to aid in cooling for very hot dry days at BW and TH race tracks. Since I am no longer in need of foglights (removed) I would like to put the stock foglight wiring and switch to work as the power to my cooler fan.
Of course my foglights only work when the headlights are on mad.gif Thank you DOT....
Can anyone give me the down and dirty on how to change the wiring at the fuse box or relays to accomplish this:
Using the stock wiring and switch to turn fan off and on when key is on. Not when the headlights are on.
Current wiring has one brown (ground) and one white with yellow stripe (hot to fogs when headlights are on)
I want to use them as follows. Brown (ground) white with yellow stripe (hot when key is on)
Thanks biggrin.gif

Man, going to be tough to explain. I know what you want to do and I did this with my 100W driving lights . I rewired the circuit so I can turn my driving light on independent of the head lights.

PM me with your email address I have the circuit drawn out I can send you that.

i put driving lights in where the fog lights go and used the fog light switch. it is all independent from the headlights. unfortunately, i can't remember how i did it, except i know i used the original fog light wiring.

I had my bumper cover off the other day and the PO has a radio shack switch(broken) in the stock location, with new wiring that is not hooked up to lights, and the OE fog light wiring. I was thinking that some nice bright driving lights would be good, did you just use some random lights that were the right diameter or what? The mount looks pretty generic to me for the OE stuff, seems it would be no prob to swap for upgraded lights.

Camp914 has some replacement lights you might want to consider.

Demick,
Just finished the rewire....worked like a charm smilie_pokal.gif

Toughest part was wrestling the headlight switch in and out of the dash sad.gif

Otherwise no problem. Directions were perfect...although I always test all wires with a test light. wink.gif Just to make sure someone had not already monkeyed things up. wacko.gif

I now have switched power to my front oil cooler fan. 1600CFM moves a heck of a lot of air cool.gif

Thanks to Joe also for responding.
