Nice shot of the cars Joe. Man, isn't it great to have this kind of weather the first weekend in March?

And is faster on the twisty back road out to the highway. Although I did have home court advantage.

Pulled Fred to 110 from 20 mph rolling start middle of 2nd gear. He was set up lol2.gif

Then we did a drop the hammer from 1st gear at about 5 MPH That white car freaking shot out of the hole I missed 2nd gear and he was GONE!!!! headbang.gif

Had a great big left hand sweeper with an elevation change that shift into a tight right hand merging onto the highway. Again home court advantage score ended up being Fred can go fast and crap in a straight line. The Racer can go fast everywhere else. Must be the new Yellow fenders.

Whall sure, yellow will do it every time biggrin.gif

OH MY GOD!!!
Why in the F*** is he using that sorry, POS Supertrapp??

If he would just listen and buy a REAL exhaust system the power would finally be freed up..

That Supertrapp is costing him 15 ponies, at least!

Gimme an afternoon with that engine and a couple of parts and I''ll get 20 more ponies out of it than he has right now....

Posted by: Joe Ricard Mar 5 2006, 07:37 PM

Well I did re adjust his timing, was retarded a pretty good bit. Not realizing he was running 9.5:1 compression I hada it a degree or so too much, came back to the house backed up the timing and all is good. I also balanced his carbs and reset the idle.
He has one of your Mallory distributors. the header is a Euro race

And yes I now and even more happy with my Tangerine.

Posted by: Jake Raby Mar 5 2006, 08:15 PM

They don't get much worse then that header... The Supertrapp makes it more horrible..

All that money spent to be wasted to exhaust....

It happens all the time.... I bet it drinks gas like a funnel.

Posted by: Joe Ricard Mar 5 2006, 08:22 PM

Yea look close at the rear end of the white car. kinda smokey all over. His A/F meter was showing around 14 ish :1 running around at normal speeds. I was hanging on too much when my foot went down to look at the gauge for WOT (main gas jet) reading. Really curvy road. mueba.gif
Wonder what a Borla muff would do?

gasp! he could be running 75-76 heat exchangers and a cat exhaust rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

Posted by: Jake Raby Mar 5 2006, 08:35 PM

The AFR was showing lean but the engine was more than likely running rich...

That happens when the exhaust is restrictive enough to heat the mixture up in the exhaust system and burn the mixture... The EGT is high enough to do this easily, especially at part throttle at cruise speeds around peak torque.

AFR meters are not all they are cracked up to be, if somnething in the stream has a bit of an exhaust lean they will pick it up, it can be as minute as where the header slips together.

With that header his engine won't ever be tuned correctly... All the work I did to design an efficient combo is being wasted all for an exhaust system.

I still think you should GIVE me a 2316 biggrin.gif I know what to do with it.

Perfectly tuned or not Fred's car Pull's pretty good.

Do you not like the euro race headers? Which versions have you tested? Or is it just the muffler that sucks?

Posted by: Aaron Cox Mar 5 2006, 08:54 PM

hierarchy of headers -
tangerine?
euro?
Kerry hunter?
SSI's?

Posted by: Jake Raby Mar 5 2006, 09:01 PM

The Euro Race was never designed or tested on an efficient larger than stock engine and it shows...

Freds car would be so much better with an efficient exhaust system.

You need more rubber under those flares.

Rubber is for racing, biggrin.gif and the rubber is plenty big enough on the rims I got from you. Thanks. 225/45-15 Hoosiers A3SO4 burnout.gif

Come on you can fit a 9.5 in slick under those flares. That car will look like a steam roller from the back with those tires. Slicks are fun on the street but you didn't hear that from me.

Well, I'm pleased with the increase in performance that the free'er breathing exhaust makes. Turns up to 7 grand much easier than before--scarey quick to 7000 in the first 2gears! Easy pull to 6000 in 5th! TFFF!!!(Too Fast For Fred)
I'm looking for something better than the supertrapp for sure, it's just what came with the exhaust. What's the difference between a Euro and the Triad? Still gets 25mpg cruising at 85-90, but that does include some play with other traffic--and that was B4 Joe tweaked it!
Over-all I'm pleased with the her, I do tend spank her often, but she likes it hard and fast. Lovely week end play toy driving.gif
Jake, I don't think that I've spent a lot of money, I guess it's a matter of perspective. Joe's got more in his tires and suspension than I have in the motor idea.gif . I have spent lots more on some of my other hobbies. Ever had a boat?
Over all I'm continuing to have alot of fun and that's what it's all about in the long run- as a matter of fact I'm looking for an aircooled T-IV daily driver. Ready to pass my BMW 325 on to my son.

Posted by: hedfurst Mar 6 2006, 10:13 AM

Oh, thanks again Joe- I could definitely tell a difference on the trip home but the super coil actually was restricting the throttle action on the 3/4 bank. I had to stop in Vancleave to move it a little. May have to re-sinc the linkage today. I like the way you do it. cool_shades.gif
Great Pics!!!
See you the 18th at the Edgewater

Posted by: Joe Ricard Mar 6 2006, 10:46 AM

Proof again that every car is different. The Dells must sit a smidge closer inboard and hence made an interferance withthe coil and throttle linkage.
I would NOT fuss with the linkage but rather move the coil.

Somehow this thread took a dive from cool Sunday afternoon with friends to an Exhaust sucking rather than blowing. huh.gif

Everybody chooses thier poison. Mine is the Racing tire crack pipe.
Koni's Big torsion bars and springs ect. and a hefty Sawzall. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Jake Raby Mar 6 2006, 10:48 AM

Fred, Glad you are happy....

BUT the next thing that you should buy is a header :-)

try to replace that Supertrapp with something else and see if the gains are notable.

Ya'll gonna be at the VW show on the 18th, then? I'll hopefully get to be there.

Depends, I might have to race at TLAC 1.

Pretty tempting to sell parts. My tire bill is going to kill me this year. wacko.gif
