I'll be there - I live in LP. lol...
Just sold my 5.0, so no car to run this year, but I'll pop up there to watch/help just the same.
Great time. Depending on how it's laid out, Manzanar can be very fast!
Lone pine is alot of fun.
When I first went in about 90' or so some one had an old trans am racer that was clocked at 160mph on one of the straights. I only got up to 120 or so and then my front brakes cought on fire at the end of the run.
We used to have some great bonfires (and midnight shotgun fun)
My kind of event. I'm in. Burning man with car theme??
i wonder how far it is? looks like a freaking blast! cheap too! 50 bucks for 2 days with t shirt? uh... color me theer batman.
get 5 cars together and you have your own class!!!
gawd - i will try to make this one!!!
Paging Joe Sharp!!!! Need you and the tequilamobile! There's a nice little golf course there, too.
AA, ever hear of Mapquest?
aye! 5 hrs ill see if the uncle wants to tow up and co drive

Don't get busted on 395 (or 14 I forget) one of our sports car club members (the other Cal Poly) got arrested on the way to lone pine (he was only going 140 or so) Make sure to cruise up to 'onion valley' while your up there - very cool little side trip and about 30 degrees cooler (9000 ft) than lone pine. |
QUOTE (Aaron Cox @ Mar 8 2006, 12:36 PM) |
whats the elevation of lone pine? |
QUOTE (Headrage @ Mar 8 2006, 12:46 PM)
Looks like just over 3700 feet. |
Oh, this looks like fun. I'm putting it on my Calender right now...
I might be able to make it. The wife is scheduled to fly into L.A. from Turkey on the 22nd.
Okay looks like at least a few people will be going. So here's the list of things I need to doto finish my conversion:
Finish the cable shifter and buy some cables
Purchase and install clutch, flywheel, release bearing, etc.
Bolt the transmission and clutch together
Install starter
Finish the radiator mount, (95% complete)
Remove old engine and transmission and shifter stuff
Remove engine bay tin and clean up.
Install radiator frame, radiator and fans
Install electronics box in place of stock relay board and rewire
Put cable shifter into car
Install the Subaru ECU, wiring
Wire the ECU and electricals into the body harness
Install the drivetrain
Have engine mount points welded onto the longitudinals
Hook up all the cables, hoses, and wiring
Build an exhaust
Modify the bumper for bumper-exhausts
Install a different tach
Get an alignment, maybe new front tires
So the question is, can I finish all that by May 20th?
-Tony
my list -
convince uncle to co-drive so he will split costs and tow my car up
bring weber jets
and uh....
get the car aligned and corner balanced and....
do our cars classify as "open" if so... we need roll bars....
with seat cushion out, and top on... i cant move my head with a helmet
looks like way too much fun

Take a few minutes to look around at the history there. Manzanar was an internment camp in WWII. They picked a good place to be isolated...
Just a note for the new guys - its rough and bumpy. If you run carbs bring smaller jets. It can get real windy and sandy too. Definatly make up a 914 non-club class.
Last time I went I just camped near the pits, it's free.
I wonder if the old guy that pissed in the LA aquaduct every day is still there? He was a hoot.

I made it from Bishop to San Fernando Valley in 3hrs 10 min. in my Ferrari including one gas stop. I admit I won't be doing that again, but Lone Pine shouldn't be more than 3 hours at a leisurly cruise. Is there anywhere to stay in Lone Pine? Independance has some motels but Lone Pine is pretty desolate. Or am I mixing those two towns up? |
QUOTE (Howard @ Mar 8 2006, 09:25 PM)
Ya got 'em backwards, Andy. Lone pine is the 'big city', I think 6 motels. Damn, my best time from Van Nuys to Bishop was 3:15 with one gas stop. But I was in a 924, so there should be some adjustment I posted this at the X1/9 club, too. Good golf course there. |
Sounds like a dinner at the Pizza Factory (We toss 'em, they're awsome) is in order.
Best Western sold out, a few rooms at Dow, good availability at Comfort, but this town fills up in the spring.
Sounds like a good time to break out the Jayco and just stay in the pits...

Put in for the vacation days, w00p!
Trying to get the family to go... Yeah, 911s, but oh well.
I'm in!!!!!!!!
Gonna send the papers and funds today...

Question is, can I do the swap in one month? I'm certainly going to try. It looks like I may be able to get the swap started this weekend. -Tony |
Now that I am a small winky 911 guy (and too good for you people) I posted this at PP, too. Should be a fun weekend. See all y'all there.

cool.. so we are ok?
ill be sendin in the papers soon
I just got around to filling out the registration form but have a question. It asks for Club/Sponsor (none I assume), Class, Car Number Desired and Work preference, timing, grid. Also modifications for class determination. I guess on the modifications I need to put the motor swap but I have no idea about the rest.
Any advise?

QUOTE (Brando @ Apr 5 2006, 06:25 PM) |
Wouldn't it be 914 club? |
No problem....think about it.....you're a non-member of a non-club...you don't exist, so you leave everything blank.
Club affiliation's mearly an info entry unless you run with these guys all year - in which case it'd go to year end awards (assuming they still do that). If you want to list yourself as a "non-member of the non-914club", on the results mailer, for example, you'll be listed something like-
ASP ~ Joe Blow ~ '72 914 ~ non-member of the non-914club ~ 2:37:04 +1 / 2:26:59....
As for classification, they must have grown a pity bone, 'cause car classification is usually your responsibility. Like most places they might point you in the "right" direction, but it's really your responsibility to decide your cars legal for S, or SP, or really should be P, or Mod, or ...? People usually couldn't care less what class you run in until you start beating their times, then the points chasers will be over-n-under-n-around your car in a heartbeat. (& whinning about it too )
Making an semi-informed choice shouldn't be too hard for ya
QUOTE |
Classes listed are per 2006 SCCA Solo II rules and CSCC Supp Regs (Includes Cal Street Mod, Stock Tire, Sport Truck, but not Novice.) |
Where's the fargin bump thingy???
This may be Headrage's last event for a while, so sign up, ya pussies. Hostility suite at my motel Friday night.... Free tequila and you can fondle AAron. I'll be bringing a couple of handheld GPS units, so you bench racers can see how fast your POS will really go. Dekman, I'm gonna love to own that orange car
Howard...the challenge is to be on a real track. Not a 60 y/o potholed, gravel-spitting runway! Maybe I'll come and watch you do some gravel drifting.....
The link doesnt work for me. I might want to attend this.
B
brad if no one can lead you to a working link i do have the info back at my office, forms and all that i can fax you next week.
i to want to go to this, but im not sure my rebuld will be done in time.
George
WHOA. That is WAY out there from SD. I'll pass. I would rather run the PCA Zone7+Zone8 Shootout in Fresno.
Thanks for the lead though. It sounds like fun, but if I'm going to travel that far, I'm going to run a track event.
B
Brad ,
Miss Mari ,Dylan and I will be at the Fresno shoot out as it is being held about 5 blocks from our main warehouse/office.
Anyone else up for the zone7/8 SCCA shoot out?
JT
Repaired Link.

Admin, could you fix first page?
And from what I understand, this less of a race and more of a party.

Oh great, I already sent the money...
Allan, yer whining again. I'll race you
I got yer whine Howie.
Are there any rooms left?
the fate of my car being there is up in the air....
we be trying mang
Look at Howard!!! Mr. "I'll race anybody cause I've got a new car" Somebody is getting a little cocky! Maybe "someone" needs to put him in his place.......I think Mrs. K can handle it
Rob you're right on that point. If I ever wanted someone to take care of my cocky, I would call
I'll race anything that burns dead dinosaurs, and if I don't win, it's OK. You ought to see me play golf
Hey, I just got my car off the blocks. Can I race too?
Attached image(s)
Since Howie's bringing his winkie extender, I'ma bring the 944 and whoop his ass...
Actually, I'm still taking the 914... I'm sure it will handle a LOT better than his ass-dragger!
Sounds like HOWIE is going DOWN! Maybe I'll bring my old '92 318 4 banger with 300,000 mi. and woop Howad! This is getting fun....who else wants a piece of Mr. H? Sign up here_________________
I'm definitely not going to have the Subaru conversion done in time, but I'm still planning on going. I've eben meaning to go to this event for abotu 4 years now. So I'll be driving my pickup or hitch a ride with someone and will be camping at the air strip. Apparently a lot of people camp there and its a good time.
-Tony
There's good fishing just up the road at Independence creek at Grays Meadows also. If you get bored you can take that road up to Onion Valley about 10,000 feet with a good twisty road. Lived in Independence for a little bit when I was a youngster.
There's some mighty big talk going on here. You guys better try to beat me this year, 'cause next year when I whip yer asses I'll be eligible for Medicare. Imagine how that's gonna look on yer resume.
Started the race prep already. Mounted front spoilers and my numbers.

Someone has way to much free time......
So anybody coming through Kern county on Friday?
I'd like to hook up with some others if possible....
Safety in numbers.
18 days left...
looks like im out....
unless somehting magic happens this weekend
id still spectate
Allan, could meet you where the 178 joins 14. I think Joe Sharp and /L are towing up, not sure who else is really coming. I could get crazy and go to B'field so we could drive 178 together. Helluva road, IIRC, but that would make it 276 miles for me.
Works for me. I'm going up Friday.
Is anybody else planning on camping out at the track? I'm planning on setting up a tent and camping out there.
-Tony
Yes, I'm going in Grace and will be towing Moncha and staying trackside. and partying all weekend.
 Joe
I will not be going to this event afterall. Looking for a new job + getting both cars registered + bills + non-running teener = no fun for brando
try this:
http://members.quixnet.net/free2000/Solo2/LonePineFlyer06.pdf
-Tony
hmm...this sounds like really fun event. Hey George (Maddeye) If you tow my running 14' to the event. i'll let you drive her in the event. We could share driver duties. I dont have a helmet though. And i'll prolly need a decent set of tires.
Bump....
See the first thread for more details. I have started a list for attendance.
-Tony
nailed.
the print out and send in page 2 of the flyer is gone.....
oh well......
I'm out for the entire weekend.
I will probably come up early Saturday and try to run the car and leave in the evening...
my excuse? prolly work, but i could prolly ask for the weekend off. Now getting there would be another issue. And i would have to address my 2nd gear downshift problem.
Dont think I will enter in the AX. My clutch cable seems unstable. But i'll bring it anyway.
It looks like many of us will be staying at various places around Lone Pine. I will collect cell phone numbers by PM and can provide the list to those who are coming.
We should try to stake out an area for the 914club at the airstrip. I suppose Joe's rig will be the best choice. Anyone have a gigantic 914club flag we can put up on a flagpole?
-Tony
(310) 650-0457
(661) 979-2266.
So you going with me or what?
Will probably leave around 9:30 AM Friday, but will change if anyone wants to caravan. 118 to 405 to 5 to 14 to 395. 818.517.8011. Staying at Comfort Inn. Marianne is not going, so seat available. Still not sure if 914 or 911. Tough decisions
REAL "MEN" (and women) drive 914's! Be a "MAN" (Howard)
This coming from a 'guy' who can't make the event because he is going to the Bahamas Monday and needs his beauty sleep?
Okay, I have to stick to the Saturday morning trip up.
I hope you guy's don't blow yer wad on Friday cuz I'll be bringing some beverages for Saturday night...
ron, im driving up with toast and you.
in class till 2... where you want to meet up? 210 and 15?
I may need "beauty sleep" but will someone make sure Howard "gets a nap". He's an old fart...I mean Senior citizen now you know. I'm driving a tractor on Sat to clear my place for Fire Dept. inspection. I'll be thinking about you guys while I'm on the tractor...probably will be smoother driving than on that old 1941 runway! Good Luck! (and keep an eye on Howie). Be safe and take lots of pic's!
Tony: I just put your flashlight in the motor home.
 Joe
joe - what time are you leaving?
me/slits/toast are leaving riverside around 2:30
Looks liek I'm bak to camping. Dad decided not to come after all.
I'll probably be leaving here at around 2 if all goes well. I doubt I'll catch up with you Corona folks.
-Tony
Joe: thanks!!! good timing too.
Just talked to Linda. She and Joe are already in Lancaster! Party time is near.
Just got the from mom that I can go today.
I'm gonna try and get on the road by 4:00 so I should be there around 7ish...
Hi honey, I'm here.
Joe and Linda have the party wagon set up at the airfield, I'm checked in at the Comfort Inn.
Testicle inspection and Hostility suite will be at the Dow Villa motel and Sierra Cafe next door from 5pm to 11pm. Stop there first on your way thru town.
A bit of construction on 395 with lane closings and flagmen, but not too bad. 90degrees and lots of snow on the mountains.
sorry I cant make it but my sons are to busy working to go with me .
Bernie
Bernie, sorry to hear you couldn't make it. Needed another old guy here
So we have Joe Sharp, Linda, Aaron, Allan, Tony, Slits, and Toast. They are all camped at the airfield with about 30 other folks. Everything from BMW track cars to shifter karts. Allan and I are the only club people running and we're in the same class.
When I left the campground the bonfires were going and somebody brought a 2 stroke powered blender, so the margaritas were flowing. The track is a disaster. Organizer said it was 1/3 A/X, 1/3 road race, and 1/3 enduro. Pretty accurate.
The party tomorrow night should be a real hoot. 200 miles from L.A. Get up here if you can.
Pix.
Attached image(s)
one more pic.
Attached image(s)
Great pic's! More please. Pic's of other cars and the runway please? Hey Howard....where is Suzi?
Just got back home.
Bailed early because of conditions at the track and a bad hangover. Terrible, terrible track conditions. Cracked and uneven 63 tear old asphalt runways and tarmac overgrown with weeds. The only cleaning that it got was a very long period of parade laps
Windy like a mofo. Dirt and dust hitting your face at 50 mph sucks.
Oh yeah, scorpions and spiders rule the place after dark..
I'll try and post some pics later...
Glad I stayed home and played with CV joints....
im back. have a shitload of photos from me and tony to resize and post...
my face is sandblasted...
allan... i made a 4hr drive in 3 hr 15 min... 90 all the way from the 14... LOL
